Specification

FIELD OF INVENTION
This invention is related to a single point mount crash guard to prevent fuel
leakage during frontal crash of vehicle.
BACKGROUND/PRIOR ART
Reference may be made to figure 1,wherein intake manifold(l) is mounted with
delivery pipe(2) on one side for fuel storage and throttle body (3) on another
side as shown. Here, the delivery pipe is target body and throttle body is hitting
mass. However, when vehicle undergoes full frontal impact at 60kmph, said
intake manifold breaks at the indicated location (4) and the' detached throttle
body travels towards the delivery pipe. This results in breakage of the pipe inlet
union (5) upon being hit by the throttle body, which leads to fuel leakage.
Thus, the above arrangement fails crash test. ,
Crash test is a test performed for customer safety which requires no fuel
leakage when the vehicle undergoes full frontal impact at 60kmph.
As a solution to the above issue, an enclosure is provided for protecting the
surface of the target body subjected to load of the hitting mass during frontal
crash. Here, the enclosure is made of sheet metal.- This adds to weight and
therefore cost. Further, the enclosure undergoes breakage under impact load.
According to another known art, atleast three point mounted crash guard is
available, which is employed in order to protect the whole of the target body in
the course of the frontal crash. So that, impact load of the hitting mass is
borne by the crash guard, thereby protecting said target body.
However, its disadvantage is that, it is bulky having three mounting points.
Further, it requires more number of fasteners and hence more assembly time.

Now, reference may be made to a patent CN 102392768 pertaining to an air
intake manifold assembly comprising an air intake manifold body, a mounting
bracket and a damping device. The bracket is provided in connection with the
intake manifold with a damping device therebetween. The arrangement of the
damping device reduces the impact of the automobile vibration on the intake
manifold.
However, the above technology can not meet the requirements of the present
invention. Hence the instant invention has been proposed which can address
issues of existing prior arts and at the same time serve the purpose efficiently.
OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION
The principle object of this invention is to propose a single point mount crash
guard to prevent fuel leakage during frontal crash of vehicle.
Another object of this invention is to propose a single point mount crash guard
to prevent fuel leakage during frontal crash of vehicle which obviates
shortcomings of the prior arts.
Still another object of this invention is to propose a single point mount crash
guard to prevent fuel leakage during frontal crash of vehiclewhich results in
absorption and deflection of the hitting mass load during frontal crash.
Further object of this invention is to propose a single point mount crash guard
to prevent fuel leakage during frontal crash of vehicle which involves less
weight and therefore cost effective.

SUMMERY OF INVENTION
According to this invention there is provided a single point mount crash guard
to prevent fuel leakage during frontal crash of vehicle comprises a single
structure placed between hitting mass and target body which includes a flat
part integrated to an inclined part constituting absorber and deflector of the
hitting mass load during frontal crash.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE ACCOMPANYING DRAWINGS
Further objects and advantages of this invention will be more apparent from
the ensuing description when read in conjunction with the accompanying
drawings of exemplary embodiments of invention and wherein:
Fig. 1 shows: Conventional arrangement in the automobile without crash
guard.
Fig. 2 shows: Mounting of crash guard of present invention in vehicle.
Fig. 2A shows: Enlarged view of mounting of crash guard.
Fig. 3 shows: . One embodiment of single point mount crash guard
according to present invention.
Fig. 4 shows: Second embodiment of invention.
Fig. 5 shows: Third embodiment of invention.
DETAIL DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION WITH REFERENCE TO THE
ACCOMPANYING DRAWINGS
The instant invention makes disclosure regarding single point mount crash
guard to prevent fuel leakage during frontal crash of vehicle. The crash guard
can be implemented to act as a guard in case of crash for any of fuel pump,
fuel tank, fuel filter, delivery pipe carrying fuel. Each of the fuel pump, fuel
tank, fuel filter and delivery pipe constitutes target body.

Now, reference may be made to fig 2 illustrating an exemplary embodiment of
the invention. Here, hitting mass comprises throttle body (V) and target body
comprises delivery pipe (2').
As can be seen in fig 2, the delivery pipe (2') is connected to intake manifold (3')
on one side of intake manifold and said throttle body is in connection with the
intake manifold on another side of intake manifold.
In order to prevent breakage of the delivery pipe inlet union (4') during full
frontal impact, a crash guard (G) is introduced between, the target body
(delivery pipe) and hitting mass (throttle body).
The crash guard comes in the path of travel of the throttle body for deviation of
the throttle body upon striking the crash guard in the course of vehicle frontal
collision.
Crash guard of invention constitutes a single piece as shown.in fig 3.
Said crash guard is devised to absorb as well as deflect hitting mass load so as
to avoid breakage of the target body i.e. delivery pipe. This guard is preferably
mounted on the intake manifold. ,
The thickness (t) of the crash guard is determined relying on weight and load of
throttle body.
The crash guard is preferably made of sheet metal without restricting scope of
the invention to the same. Thus other suitable materials readily apparent to a
person skilled in the art are understood to be within perview of the invention.

One end part (A) of the crash guard acts as; absorber and deflector of hitting
mass load, which is integrated to an elongated member (B) for mounting on the
intake manifold at the end (C) of the elongated member. Said elongated
member is designed according to the layouting of the adjacent parts around the
intake manifold.
The aforesaid crash guard functions both as absorber and deflector. Hence the
same can be mounted at a single point, which renders it compact as compared
to currently available crash guards.
The end part (A) of the crash guard directing towards the hitting mass i.e.
throttle body (V) includes a flat part (F) integrated to an inclined member (I).
The flat part constituting absorber plays role to absorb the hitting mass load
and the inclined part forming deflector deflects the hitting mass load away from
the target body (delivery pipe) so as to protect the delivery pipe inlet union from
breakage upon impact.
Angle of deflector of crash guard is designed such that, absorption of throttle
body load is minimum and deflection of the body impact load is maximum.
This also avoids deflection of crash guard, so that it does not interfere with the
adjacent parts.
Thus the end part (A) is both load absorber and deflector of the crash guard.
Fig. 4 and 5 illustrates second and third embodiment of present invention
respectively based on the same concept and serving the same purpose with
different profile as the profile varies from model to mold according to the
layouting of surrounding parts of "intake manifold.

As the crash guard involves single point mounting, hence it requires less
number of fasteners. This finally results in ease of assembly and less assembly
time.
The single point mounted crash guard of invention falls in the travel path of
throttle bodyduring frontal crash. The crash guard not only bears the full
impact load of the hitting mass, but also deviates the path of travel of the same
(throttle body). This avoids breakage of delivery pipe inlet union which in turn
ensures safety of the customer. Thus instead of absorbing the.full impact load,
single point crash guard partly absorbs impact load and deviates the hitting
mass. This enables simplified design of crash guard with less thickness.

- Compact.
- Simplified design of crash guard with less thickness.
- Absorption and deflection of the hitting mass load during frontal crash.

less assembly time.
It is to be noted that the present invention is susceptible to modifications,
adaptations and changes by those skilled in the art. Such variant embodiments
