A Sinter Mix Preheating System By Steam Injection To Increase Sinter Machine Productivity

Abstract: The present invention relates to a sinter mix preheating system in the intermediate bunker/surge hopper of sinter machine, located closer to the sinter machine to avoid heat loss of the sinter mix while traveling to the sinter machine to thereby reducing re-condensation of moisture in the lower part of the sinter bed. Advantageously, the sinter mix preheating system is introduced in the intermediate bunker by adopting steam injection. The system allows the steam for heating to be taken from the main steam header through pipe line and supplied to the bunker through a plurality of nozzles located at the back side of the intermediate bunker, selectively disposed in a number of rows across the width of bunker. The present sinter mix preheating system in the intermediate bunker of sinter machine is thus having prospects for wide scale use in sinter plants with economy for achieving higher pre heat sinter mix temperature and improved productivity consuming lesser steam.

Specification

FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a sinter mix preiieating system in the intermediate bunker/
surge hopper of sinter machine. More particularly, the present invention is directed to a
sinter mix preheating system which is closer to the sinter machine to avoid heat loss of the
sinter mix while traveling to the sinter machine to thereby reducing re-condensation of
moisture in the lower part of the sinter bed. Advantageously, the sinter mix preheating
system is introduced in the intermediate bunker by adopting steam injection. The system of
the invention allow steam to be taken from the main steam header through pipe line and
supplied to the bunker through nozzles located at the back side of the intermediate bunker,
selectively disposed in rows across the width. The sinter mix preheating system in the
intermediate bunker of sinter machine according to the present invention is thus having
prospects for wide scale use in sinter plants with economy for achieving higher pre heat
sinter mix temperature and improved productivity consuming lesser steam.
BACKGROUND ART
Sinter (Agglomerate) is a feed material to blast furnace in the Steel Industry. In the sinter
plant agglomeration of iron ore fines into lumpy porous mass occurs by incipient fusion i.e.
sintering. In a sinter plant prepared burden i.e. proportionate mixture of iron ore fines, flux
fines, lime fines, coke breeze after balling in a balling drum is charged in the intermediate
bunker and then the charge feeds to the sinter machine through drum feeder.
In such a conventional sinter machine, sinter mix feeds into the sinter machine without pre
heating of sinter mix thus results in re-condensation of moisture in the lower part of the
sinter bed which will effect the sinter bed permeability and loss in productivity of the sinter
machine. Preheating of sinter mix in the intermediate bunker (surge hopper) helps to
preheat the sinter charge as high as 65°C with an uniform distribution of heat in the bunker
and it helps in reduction in loss of heat transfer to the sinter charge, leading to a good
quality of sinter.
Therefore there has been a need in the art to developing a sinter mix pre heating system
which is closer to the sinter machine so that it can decrease the heat loss when the sinter
charge comes to the sinter machine and suppress the re-condensation of moisture in the
lower part of the sinter bed so that good quality of sinter can be obtained.
OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION
The basic object of the present invention is thus directed to developing a sinter mix
preheating system directed to suppressing the re-condensation of moisture in the lower part
of the sinter bed and a method of such heating in order to ensure uniform sinter bed
permeability, increased preheat temperature, increase in speed of the sinter machine and
improve overall productivity of sinter plant.
A further object of the present invention is thus directed to developing a sinter mix
preheating system of sinter charge located at the closest distance from the sinter machine
ensuring reduction in loss of heat transfer to sinter charge.
A still further object of the present invention is thus directed to developing a sinter mix
preheating system adapted to ensure uniform heat distribution so that the sinter mix carry
uniform heat in the sinter machine.
A still further object of the present invention is directed to developing a sinter mix
preheating system adapted to ensure lesser steam consumption for achieving higher pre
heat sinter mix temperature.
A still further object of the present invention is directed to developing a sinter mix
preheating system wherein the said system is simple, energy efficient, less expensive,
reliable and adapted for enhanced speed of the sinter machine.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
The basic object of the present invention is thus directed to a sinter mix preheating system
comprising
feeding the sinter mix with desired moisture content to an intermediate bunker of sinter
machine,
said intermediate bunl
