Abstract: The present invention provides a slide lock mechanism for securely locking the lid with the jar of a mixer grinder. The mechanism consists of four main parts; 1) a lid (10) 2) a slider ring (30) 3) a rubber gasket (40) and 4) a jar (20). The slider ring (30) which is preferably made up of plastic is press fitted onto the lid (10) (plastic) which has a step created for the fitment of the slider ring (30). This allows the slider to freely rotate while keeping the slider ring (30) from coming off the lid (10). The slider ring (30) holds the lid (10) onto the jar (20) when locked. On the inside of the lid (10) there is a space for a rubber gasket (40) which is compressed between the lid (10) and the metal jar (20) when attached.
[001] The present invention relates generally to the field of locking mechanism of the lid to the jar of mixer grinder. The present invention in particular relates to a slide lock mechanism of the lid to the jar of mixer grinder.
BACKGROUND AND PRIOR ART:
[002] Current techniques of locking the lid onto ajar include the use of a number of clips. This process involves pressing the lid onto the jar and then locking a number of clips which are attached to the lid onto the jar. This method is time consuming for the user as the lid needs to be frequently opened and closed during food preparation.
[003] A simple tight fit gasket is also a method used where the lid is only pressed down onto the jar. This method requires the user to keep their hand on the lid to prevent it from coming off. This method is also prone to leakages.
[004] Currently there is a method in which the lid is pressed down onto the jar and then the entire lid is rotated to lock it with flanges on the jar. This mechanism requires a lot of effort to rotate the lid as the gasket is tightly sandwiched between the lid and the jar. Also over time with repeated use and the gasket rubbing against the jar, the gasket wears out and there is a possibility of leakages.
[005] In such methods, the lid is pressed down onto the jar and then the entire lid is rotated to lock it with flanges on the jar. This requires the user to rotate the lid which is tight fit with the jar through a gasket and hence requires a lot of effort to lock and unlock. Also over time with repeated use and the gasket rubbing against the jar, the gasket wears out and there is a possibility of leakages.
[006] US 5,997,052 relates to a lock releasing mechanism for a container having a hinged or removable lid. A locking arm is disposed adjacent the container lid to prevent an opening of the lid, and a cable, or rigid bar, connects the locking arm to the locking mechanism. The elements of the locking mechanism comprise a slide plate to which the cable is fixed; a spring for urging the slide plate to a locked position, a guide member for guiding the slide plate, and a trigger ball which blocks movement of the slide arm in the locked position. When the container is tilted forward by a predetermined angle, the trigger ball becomes dislodged from the locking position to enable movement of the slide plate, and subsequent movement of the locking arm. When the locking arm is moved out of the path of travel for the container lid, the contents of the container may be removed. In one embodiment, a stop is provided to limit rotation of the locking bar to prevent contact with the container lid.
[007] However, US 5,997,052 have a different mechanism incorporating wires and multiple hinged parts. Again this
mechanism cannot be used places where locking is needed in circular concentric parts.
[008] According to US 6,367,639, a safety container incorporates a slidable locking pin with an integral but Separately lockable locking tab. The locking pin is internally biased by an integral S-Spring which, in cooperation with the lid on the container, urges the pin to Slide in a slideway in the lid of the container. The locking pin may be locked into a closed position, however, by rotation of the locking tab into a flexed position. In this position, the locking tab cannot slide within a mating slot in the hinge lid and thus the locking pin cannot slide in the slideway in the lid. Alternatively, the locking tab may be rotated into a non-flexed position in which the locking tab can be urged to penetrate the mating slot in the lid and allow the lockingpin to slide in the slideway in the lid. By use of the locking pin, the Safety container can be set to require the user to engage in at least distinct hand motions in order to open the container.
[009] However, US 6,367,639 discloses a locking mechanism for hinged parts and not for two circular parts. Also the mechanism is more complex and involves springs in the plastic.
[0010] US 3,942,630 discloses a sliding cover safety package including a container having a cover mounted thereon for slidable movement between open and closed positions with respect to the container. The container and cover are provided with locking lugs having a locked position when the cover is closed in which the cover is
locked against movement from its closed position with respect to the container, and an unlocked position when the cover is closed in which the cover can slide with respect to the container to its open position. The locking lugs are movable between the locked and unlocked positions by axial movement of the cover with respect to the container. Resilient biasing members is engaged between the container and cover to bias the locking lugs to the locked position such that the cover can slide from its closed position with respect to the container only after axial movement of the cover with respect to the container against the biasing members.
[0011] However, US 3,942,630 discloses a mechanism for locking in a linear motion. Locking occurs by slide the locking part in a forward and back direction.
[0012] Hence, there is a need to provide an easy, effortless and quick method of attaching the lid to the jar which is leak proof and that secures the lid onto the jar without the need for the user to hold the lid down, i.e. hands-free usage.
[0013] The present invention provides a mechanism to slidably lock the circular parts of the jar. This mechanism allows the lid to be securely locked onto the jar at multiple points in one effort less step. The slider is one part which is press fit onto the lid and locks with the jar at multiple points around its rim, ensuring that the lid is firmly held in place. Also as the lid remains static in the mechanism the gasket is made to fit more tightly on the jar further reducing the chances of leakage.
OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION:
[0014] The principal objective of the present invention is to provide a slide lock mechanism of the lid to the jar of mixer grinder.
[0015] Another object of the present invention is to provide a slide lock mechanism of the lid to the jar of mixer grinder which is hands free.
[0016] Yet another object of the present invention is to provide a slide lock mechanism of the lid to the jar of mixer grinder for circular parts of the jar.
[0017] Still another objection of the present invention is to provide a slide lock mechanism of the lid to the jar of mixer grinder which is simple and easy to use.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION:
[0018] In accordance with the said objectives, the present invention provides a slide locking mechanism locking for circular parts. It consists of a ring which is press fit onto a part that needs to be locked, in this case the lid of a mixer grinder. The locking is done by rotating the ring in a clockwise direction around the lid until a locking detail engages with flanges on the mixer jar. Similarly, unlocking done by rotating the ring in an anti-clockwise direction. The locking detail on the ring has an incline which helps to pull the lid tight on to the jar, ensuring a leak proof locking. The whole mechanism is free from any springs, wires etc. and its uniqueness lies in the fact that it is locking two circular concentric parts through a rotary motion.

[0034] The slide locking mechanism is a novel way of locking a lid to a jar of a mixer grinder. The main objective of this mechanism is to provide an easy, quick and effortless way to lock the lid onto the jar while ensuring no leakage from the jar and allowing for hands-free 5 usage.
[0035] The mechanism consists of four main parts; 1) a lid (10) 2) a slider ring (30) 3) a rubber gasket (40) and 4) a jar (20). The slider ring (30) which is preferably made up of plastic is press fitted onto the lid (10) (plastic) which has a step created for the fitment of the slider 10 ring (30).
15 [0036] The slider has inclined locking details (60) which slide under the flanges (50) on the jar (20), keeping the lid (10) pressed down tightly onto the jar (20) with the rubber gasket (40) sandwiched between the lid and the jar. This forms a leak proof seal and prevents the contents of the jar from leaking out and also allows the user to let
20 go of the lid (10) while using the mixer grinder hands free. Similarly, the user can rotate the slider in an anti-clockwise direction to unlock the lid (10).
[0037] The user has to press the lid (10) onto the metal jar (20). At this
point the rubber gasket (40) around the bottom of the lid (10) is
25 sandwiched between the jar (20) and the lid (10). The user can then
10
rotate the slider in a clockwise direction until the slider can no longer rotate. Now the lid (10) is locked. When rotated plurality of inward facing flanges (70) on the slider moves and engages with plurality protruding flanges (50) on the jar. The slider has vertical wall (80) at 5 the end of each flange (70) to prevent it from over rotating and disengaging. The flanges (70) on the slider also have an inclined entry point for the jar flanges (50). This features help in further tightening the seal of the rubber gasket (40) by pulling the lid (10) towards the jar (20) when the slider is rotated. When locked the user can turn on
10 the mixer grinder without needing to keep their hand on the lid (hands-free usage). To unlock the user has to rotate the slider ring (30) in the anti-clockwise direction. This makes the act of repeatedly opening and closing the lid of the mixer grinder a one step and effortless action. Also as the ring stay static while locking the
15 unlocking, it does not suffer from wear and tear.
