A Smart Dual Flow Ventilation Fan

Abstract: A smart dual flow ventilation fan along with temperature sensors for maintaining pre-set room temperature, air filter for filtering out incoming air, automatic room freshener attachment, quick and easy fitting mechanism over normal ventilation hole, humidity control attachment as shown in Figure 1. The fan works automatically for reducing the room temperature by working as exhaust fan and inlet flow fan alternatively between specific period for flushing out the hot air trapped under roof and fill in with cold air from outside. It comprises of two temperature sensors for checking the temperature inside and outside the room.

Specification

Claims:1. A fan having automatic dual flow ventilation feature along with temperature sensors for maintaining pre-set room temperature, air filter for filtering out incoming air, automatic room freshener attachment, quick and easy fitting mechanism over normal ventilation hole, humidity control attachment. , Description:DESCRIPTION OF INVENTION

Field of the invention

[0001] The present invention relates to a dual flow ventilation fan. More particularly the invention relates to an automatic dual flow ventilation fan which performs as both exhaust and inlet flow fan in order to flush out the hot air trapped inside a room and fill in with cold air from outside along with filtering operation and room freshener options.

Background and the 'prior art'
[0002] Inside a room, air near the roof will be heated up during daytime especially during summer season. Even with the presence of ventilation holes, temperature inside the room will not become equivalent with the outside temperature. A normal ceiling fan pushes down this hot air which will circulate inside the room causing reduced comfort level for the user and it will increase the cooling load in case of an Air Conditioner. To solve this issue, quick removal of trapped hot air is required, and it can be achieved by using a normal exhaust fan. But using a normal exhaust fan can be a bit troublesome like need to make a hole in the wall, bad aesthetic appeal, and it create more noise etc. In similar way, if the outside temperature is comfortable to user, this air can be drawn inside the room to improve comfort level, and no solution is available for automatically executing this function. To sense whether the outside temperature is comfortable or not and to operate the fan accordingly, two temperature sensors are placed inside the room and outside for capturing the respective temperature values. Based on this it determines whether to put exhaust mode or inlet mode. When the temperature is higher inside the room when compared to that of outside it starts the exhaust mode for some time to flush out the hot air and automatically changes to inlet mode. This alternate process is continued till the room temperature is same as that of outside temperature.

[0003] Even though reversible flow fans are available, this will draw in unwanted particles to the living space as these are not equipped with any filters, also the reverse operation is not so efficient. The present invention provides a better solution for the above said problems. Along with this normal ventilation fan doesn’t have room freshener attachment provision.

Objectives of the invention

[0004] The main objective of the invention is to develop a ventilating solution which is able-
1. To sense the outside and the inside temperature and automatically regulate the airflow accordingly to maintain the human comfort inside the room.
2. To filter out the unwanted particles during the inflow of air and to disable the filter during exhaust operation since the filter is not required during exhaust air flow.
3. To maintain the same efficiency (without filter) during inlet and exhaust operations.
4. To maintain lower sound levels during the operation as compared to regular exhaust fans.
5. To sense the humidity level and humidify the air accordingly to maintain the human comfort.
6. To remove the odour and to refresh the air inside the room using the freshener attached in fan which is user controllable.
7. To enable easy cleaning / serviceability / replacement of the air filters.
8. To make the fitment more convenient to user as compared to regular exhaust/ ventilating fans
9. To make its appearance more appealing to interiors as compared to exhaust/ ventilating fans.
10. To enable fitment of unit with already available ventilating holes in the room.
11. To avoid entry of insects like mosquitos or small creatures like birds/ rats during operation and idle/ off conditions
12. To reduce the cooling load on air conditioners by removing the hot air inside the room.
13. To enable remote enabled control of the equipment for easy operation.

Detailed Description of the Invention with drawings

[0005] Figure 1: Shows the assemble bottom side view of Smart ventilation fan. Main parts are Rotating grill (1), two End cowls (2) on each side, Main casing (3), Removable filter cartridge (4), Wall fitment clamp (5), Outside temperature sensor (6), Room temperature sensor (7). Temperature sensors help to capture the respective temperature as the name suggests and provide the signals to the electronic board which then determines the position of rotating grill to achieve exhaust or inlet mode. Fan will work in exhaust mode and inlet mode alternatively at specific intervals until the room temperature is equal to outside temperature.

[0006] Figure 2: Shows the back side of the fan. Air filter in disengaged position (8) is shown there. Two Clamps (5) are shown at each end which enables quick fitting over the wall. First, two clamps (5) are bolted to the wall using nuts keeping a specified distance between them and then, the whole fan assembly is locked to the clamp by sliding from any side.

[0007] Figure 3: Shows the cut-section of fan fitted over the ventilation hole in Inlet mode. Air filter in engaged position (9) is shown there. Impeller (10) for providing the air flow. Rotating grill (1) and Air filters (8,9) are connected through a cam mechanism for engaging the filter in Inlet mode and disengaging the filter in Exhaust mode.

[0008] Figure 4: Shows the cut-section of fan in Exhaust mode where Air filter is in Engaged position (8) is shown.

[0009] When the fan is turned on in automatic mode it will check the temperature outside and inside of the room. If the outside temperature in lower, then the fan Rotating grill (1) will align to exhaust mode for flushing out the hot air if it was in inlet mode, otherwise it will start rotating. After the exhaust mode is turned on for specific time it will change to inlet mode for fill in the colder air from outside. Thereon the Rotating grill will rotate to achieve the exhaust position. The fan will be in alternate inlet and exhaust mode until the temperature of the room equals the temperature of outside. Using the remote mode, the user can also put it exhaust or inlet mode as per his wish.
