, Description:PREAMBLE TO THE DESCRIPTION:
[0001] The following specification particularly describes the invention and the manner in which it is to be performed:
DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION:
Technical field of the invention
[0001] The present invention relates to a smart haemovigilance box. More particularly, the invention relates to a smart box for safe blood administration process.

Background of the invention
[0002] As per the SHOT (serious hazards of Blood transfusion) report, there have been many incidents of blood units administered to wrong patients leading to fatal outcomes. Most incidents result from mistakes and the root cause of most incidents is misidentification at the time of pre-transfusion blood sampling, laboratory testing, collecting the blood component from the blood bank or administration of the transfusion at the bedside. The Key principles that underpin every stage of the blood administration process are positive patient identification, good documentation and excellent communication.
[0003] A key recommendation of the first annual SHOT report (1996-97) states that ‘the bedside check is vital in preventing transfusion error. The Staff should be vigilant in checking identification details of the component against those of the patient.’ It is surprising that this simple but very strong recommendation is valid since 20 years and there are yet incidences of errors occurring across the globe. Of the reported errors, 15% could be attributed to system faults and 85% to what we now call ‘human factors’. While it is often possible to mitigate system faults, ‘human factors’ are ever- present and likely to pose a risk to safety. It follows that there is need of a systems to minimize the impact of ‘human factors’.
[0004] Further, there is no direct correlation between the patient identification and the blood being transfused. The blood can be transfused without a thorough patient identification leading to "wrong blood wrong hand" incidences. Even if the patient identification is wrongly done, there is no system to link it with bags being received and transfused.
[0005] At the last minute, blood component compatibility or suitability changes are not under the blood bank control once the blood components are issued from the blood bank. The blood bank has to communicate with the patient bed side independently to stop last minute transfusion. This communication is independent of the bags being transported and inceases possibilities of blood banks being unable to connect with the key team members on the patient bed side, leading the blood to be transfused.
[0006] The Documentation of the blood order is manual or computerized but not directly connected with the blood issue process. Improper documentation does not control the blood issue and transfusion.
[0007] The Chinese Patent Publication No CN102509210A titled “Transportation storage system and method of blood” discloses a storage system of blood based on radio frequency identification device (RFID) technology, which is composed of a transportation worker card, bloodbags to which RFID label are bonded, a blood transportation box, a portable operation instrument and a remote server. An RFID read-write unit on the portable operation instrument is used for managing the blood bags to which the RFID labels are bonded in the transportation box. In this invention, the transportation does not provide a storage system which autolocks the box at the time of the temperature chain fluctuations.
[0008] Hence, there exist a need of a safe blood administration process which provides a positive patient identification, good documentation and excellent communication to minimize the impact of human factor in the blood administration process and in turn makes blood transfusion safe.
