Specification

FIELD OF INVENTION
This invention relates to a spanner for opening and closing of locking nuts.
BACKGROUND OF INVENTION
Spanners presently known in the art comprise a handle member with a working head provided at one or both heads. A disadvantage associated with such a known construction is that the spanner head when working on a locking nut can only be rotated in the forward direction, and not in the backward direction. However, in a locking or unlocking action of a nut, it is necessary to move the spanner head in the reverse direction after each forward direction. As the known spanners could not provide a movement in the reverse direction, it was necessary to remove the spanner head from the locking nut whenever a reverse direction movement is required. Such a removal of the spanner head was not convenient.
OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION
An object of this invention is to propose an improved construction of a spanner for locking or opening of a locking nut.
Another object of this invention is to propose a spanner which allows a movement of the spanner head in a reverse direction.
Still another object of this invention is to propose a spanner which is efficient.
Further objects and advantages of this invention will be more apparent from the ensuing description.
STATEMENT OF INVENTION
According to this invention there is provided a spanner for opening and closing of locking nuts comprising of a handle member having at least one working head with means to allow a reverse movement of said working head when engaged with a
locking nut wherein the means comprising of a gear, serration lock, idle lock and tension spring disposed in the working head in which the idle lock holds the spring and causes engagement of the serration lock with the gear.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE ACCOMPANYING DRAWINGS
Further objects and advantages of this invention will be more apparent from the ensuing description when read in conjunction with the accompanying drawing and wherein:
Fig. I shows sectional view of spanner of the present invention.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION WITH REFERENCE TO ACCOMPANYING DRAWING: -
According to this invention, there is provided a spanner comprising a handle member (1) having at least one working
head (2) with means to allow a reverse movement of said working head when engaged with, a locking nut.
In accordance with this invention, the disadvantages of the prior art are avoided in that the working head provided at least at one end of the arm or handle of the present invention, which allows a reverse movement of the working head.
For this purpose, the working head comprises gear (3) and serration lock (4) wherein the gear is having for example 72 teeth for fastening at minimum movement i.e. at an angle of for example 5°. The serration leek comprises plurality of teeth. Serration lock, idle lock (5) and tension spring (6) work all together in such a way so as to allow a reverse movement of the working head without removal from the locking nut. The gear is disposed within the working surface of the working head.
Serration lock locks the gear fir operation/fastening, tension spring keeps the tension for the engagement of the serration lock and idle lock helps the serration lock to keep engagement
with the help of tension spring. The function of the idle lock is to hold the spring and provides tension to serration lock for being engaged with the gear. The wrenches have opening size from 8mm-22mm and the outer diameter of all gears is from 14-32 mm, which may be taken as an example without restricting the scope of the invention to the same.
OPERATION OF THE SPANNER
When the handle is rotated clockwise, the serration lock engages the gear and locks the handle with gear, which results in tightening of the nuts/bolts. Further, when the handle is rotated anti-clockwise the serration lock gets disengaged and becomes free due to spring loaded action wherein rotation of nut/bolt is not effected. Again the handle is rotated clockwise for the engagement of the serration lock with the gear and locking of the handle, which results in further tightening of the nuts/bolts. The above operation;, goes on repeating.
It is to be noted that the present invention is susceptible to modifications, adaptations and changes by those skilled in the art. Such variant embodiments employing the concepts and features of this invention are intended to be within the scope of the present invention, which is further set forth under the following claims: -

WE CLAIM
1. A spanner for opening and closing of locking nuts
comprising of a handle member having at least one
working head with means to allow a reverse movement of
said working head when engaged with a locking nut
wherein the means comprising of a gear, serration lock,
idle lock and tension spring disposed in the working head
in which the idle lock holds the spring and causes
engagement of the serration lock with the gear.
2. A spanner as claimed in claim 1 wherein the gear is
having for example 72 teeth for fastening at minimum
angle of for example 5°.
3. A spanner as claimed in claim 1 or 2 wherein the
serration lock comprising of a plurality of teeth.
4. A spanner as claimed in any of the preceding claims
wherein the serration loc k idle lock and tension spring
work together so as to allow a reverse movement of the working head.
5 A spanner as claimed in any of the preceding claims wherein the gear is disposed in the working surface of the working head.
6, A spanner for opening and closing of locking nuts substantially as herein described and illustrated with reference to the accompanying drawing.
