A Spinneret Plate For Extruding Fibers

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a spinneret plate for extruding fibers. The spinneret plate comprises a plurality of apertures configured thereon. Each of the plurality of apertures has a plurality of elongated arcuate slots grouped around a central point of each of the plurality of apertures to form a capillary. The plurality of elongated arcuate slots extends in the outward direction from the central point of connection of the plurality of elongated arcuate slots, to subtend a pre-determined angle therebetween and enable the extrusion of the fibers of a non-uniform cross-section therefrom. The polymeric fibers extruded from the plurality of apertures have a better wicking tendency as compared to that extruded from a plurality of apertures having a circular cross-section, thereby absorbing a desired color efficiently during the dying process to obtain fibers of the desired color. The present disclosure relates to the field of mechanical engineering.
DEFINITIONS
As used in the present disclosure, the following term is generally intended to have the meaning as set forth below, except to the extent that the context in which they are used indicate otherwise.
Wicking tendency – refers to an ability of a fiber or a fabric to absorb moisture by capillary action.
BACKGROUND
Polymeric fibers are obtained by using a melt spinning process. In the melt spinning process, a polymeric material is melted to obtain a polymer melt. The polymeric melt is passed through a spinneret plate having a plurality of apertures of a circular cross-section configured thereon, to extrude molten fibers therefrom. The extruded molten fibers are further cooled to obtain polymeric fibers of a circular cross-section. These polymeric fibers are intertwined to produce a fabric having a circular cross-section. However, there are certain drawbacks associated with the circular cross-section polymeric fibers, such as:
• poor wicking tendency;
• poor elasticity;
• loosely intertwining of polymeric fibers to produce a fabric of poor quality;
• less surface area, and the like.
There is, therefore, felt a need for an alternative spinneret plate to extrude fibers, and obviate the above mentioned drawbacks.

OBJECTS
Some of the objects of the present disclosure, which at least one embodiment herein satisfies, are as follows.
It is an object of the present disclosure to ameliorate one or more problems of the prior art or to at least provide a useful alternative.
An object of the present disclosure is to provide a spinneret plate for extrusion of fibers.
Other objects and advantages of the present disclosure will be more apparent from the following description, which is not intended to limit the scope of the present disclosure.
SUMMARY
The present disclosure envisages a spinneret plate for extruding fibers. A plurality of apertures are configured on the spinneret plate.
The plurality of elongated arcuate slots can be equidistantly grouped around the central point.
The plurality of elongated arcuate slots radially extends in the outward direction from the central point.
The pre-determined angle can be in the range of 40° to 60°.
The diameter of each of the plurality of apertures can be in the range of 1 mm to 3 mm.
The spinneret plate comprises an operative upper face and an operative lower face.
The capillary extends between the operative upper face and the operative lower face to form a passageway for fibers.
The inner diameter of the capillary can be in the range of 50 mm to 60 mm, and the outer diameter of the capillary can be in the range of 70 mm to 80 mm.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF ACCOMPANYING DRAWING
A spinneret plate for extruding fibers will now be described with the help of the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figures 1 illustrate a schematic view of an aperture in accordance with the present disclosure; and
Figures 2 illustrate a cross-sectional view of fibers in accordance with the present disclosure.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION
Conventionally, a plurality of apertures having a circular cross-section are configured on a spinneret plate. Due to the circular cross-section of the apertures, polymeric fibers extruded therefrom are circular in cross-section. These polymeric fibers are intertwined to produce a fabric having a circular cross-section.
However, following are the limitations associated with the circular cross-section polymeric fibers:
• wicking tendency is poor;
• elasticity is poor;
• quality of a fabric produced by intertwining of the polymeric fibers is poor;
• surface area of the polymeric fibers is less, and the like.
The present disclosure, therefore, provides a spinneret plate, which is described herein below with reference to Figure 1, for extruding fibers, so as to obviate the above mentioned drawbacks.
The spinneret plate (not shown in Figure 1) comprises a plurality of apertures (10) configured on the spinneret plate. Each of the plurality of apertures (10) has a plurality of elongated arcuate slots (12) grouped around a central point (14) of each of said plurality of apertures (10) to form a capillary (not shown in Figure 1). The plurality of elongated arcuate slots (12) extends in the outward direction from the central point (14) of connection of the plurality of elongated arcuate slots (12), to subtend a pre-determined angle (16) therebetween and enable the extrusion of the fibers (F) of a non-uniform cross-section therefrom (as shown in Figure 2).
In accordance with one embodiment of the present disclosure, during the extrusion of fibers, grooves are formed on the fibers (F).
The plurality of elongated arcuate slots (12) can be equidistantly grouped around the central point (14).
The plurality of elongated arcuate slots (12) radially extends in the outward direction from the central point (14).
The pre-determined angle (16) can be in the range of 40° to 60°.
The diameter of each of the plurality of apertures (10) can be in the range of 1 mm to 3 mm.
The spinneret plate comprises an operative upper face (not shown in Figure 1) and an operative lower face (not shown in Figure 1).
The capillary particularly extends between the operative upper face and the operative lower face to form a passageway for fibers.
The inner diameter of the capillary can be in the range of 50 mm to 60 mm, and the outer diameter of the capillary can be in the range of 70 mm to 80 mm.
As compared to the polymeric fibers extruded from the apertures having a circular cross-section, the fibers (F) (as shown in Figure 2) extruded from the plurality of apertures (10) have a better wicking tendency, thereby absorbing a desired color efficiently during the dying process to obtain fibers of the desired color.
The fibers (F) also possess better elasticity, and greater surface area.
Moreover, the grooves formed on the fibers (F) facilitate tight intertwining of the fibers (F), thereby producing a better quality fabric as compared to that produced conventionally.
