, Description:PREAMBLE TO THE DESCRIPTION:
[0001] The following specification particularly describes the invention and the manner in which it is to be performed:

DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
Technical field of the invention
[0002] The present invention discloses a split grommet assembly for a gear shifter cable system. The present assembly particularly relates to a pair of split grommets which is capable of being individually assembled or disassembled from a primary grommet based on the requirement of one or more users.
Background of the invention
[0003] Presently, the transmission systems in vehicles comprise a pair of cables i.e. the “shift” and “select” cables which are secured between the passenger compartment and the engine compartment of the vehicle through a singular grommet. In the event of failure of either the “shift” cable or “select” cable, the user is required to change the entire cable assembly comprising both the cables since the single grommet does not allow the replacement of an individual cable whose operation has failed. Presently, there is no mechanism which enables individual replacement of cables based on the requirement of a user.
[0004] The Patent Application No. EP2541114A1 titled “Split grommet assembly” discloses a split grommet assembly comprising a grommet and a clamping ring. The grommet has a body portion with a peripheral edge and a sealing groove round the peripheral edge of the body portion. The grommet also has a gland portion with a peripheral edge, and a hole passing through the body and gland portions. The body and gland portions are each split along a split line which runs from the hole to their peripheral edges. The clamping ring encircles the peripheral edge of the gland portion and can be opened to permit an elongate object to be fitted into the hole via the split line, and closed to apply a compressive load to the peripheral edge of the gland portion which resists opening of the body along the split line.
[0005] The Patent Application No. US20120048616A1 titled “Grommet assembly” discloses a grommet assembly for holding, sealing and/or protecting one or more wires of a wire harness as they pass through an opening in a panel. The grommet assembly includes a first grommet portion and a second grommet portion, each grommet portion having one or more wire receiving grooves with each wire receiving groove including a cylindrical-shaped slot that engages more than 180 degrees of the circumference of a wire, which enables the retention of a wire during assembly. The one or more wire receiving grooves include at least one compressible sealing rib for sealing around a wire. At least one of the wires receiving grooves may include a removable plug for sealing the wire receiving groove when a wire is not present.
[0006] Hence, there exists a need for a mechanism to enable the assembly or disassembly of individual grommets based on the requirement of one or more users.
Summary of the invention:
[0007] The present invention overcomes the drawbacks of the prior art by disclosing a split grommet assembly for a vehicle’s transmission system, wherein the assembly comprises a primary grommet which is overmolded on a grommet plate, wherein the primary grommet integrates the passenger compartment with the engine compartment of a vehicle through a vehicle floor and a sealing bead which acts as a sealing between the passenger compartment and the engine compartment. Further, the assembly comprises at least one pair of split grommets which is removably accommodated within the primary grommet, wherein the pair of split grommets is capable of being individually assembled or disassembled from the primary grommet based on the requirement of one or more users.
[0008] The present invention provides a simple implementation of the assembly which allows the split grommets to be disassembled individually when either transmission cable i.e. the “shift” and “select” cables are required to be replaced individually. This feature not only reduces the overall expenditure but also eliminates unnecessary replacement of cables which are in optimum working condition. Additionally, the assembly may be retrofitted in the existing primary grommets or customized based on the users’ requirements.
Brief description of the drawings:
[0009] The foregoing and other features of embodiments will become more apparent from the following detailed description of embodiments when read in conjunction with the accompanying drawings. In the drawings, like reference numerals refer to like elements.
[0010] FIG 1a illustrates a perspective view of split grommet assembly for a gear shifter cable system.
[0011] FIG 1b illustrates a cut section side view of a split grommet assembly for a vehicle’s transmission system.

Detailed description of the invention:
[0013] Reference will now be made in detail to the description of the present subject matter, one or more examples of which are shown in figures. Each example is provided to explain the subject matter and not a limitation. Various changes and modifications obvious to one skilled in the art to which the invention pertains are deemed to be within the spirit, scope and contemplation of the invention.
[0014] The present invention discloses a split grommet assembly for a gear shifter cable system, wherein the assembly comprises a primary grommet which is overmolded on a grommet plate. The primary grommet integrates the passenger compartment with the engine compartment of a vehicle through a vehicle floor and a sealing bead which acts as a sealing between the passenger compartment and the engine compartment. Further, the assembly comprises a pair of split grommets which is removably accommodated within the primary grommet, wherein the pair of split grommets secures a pair of transmission cables i.e. the “shift” and “select” cables connected between the passenger compartment and the engine compartment of the vehicle for enabling vehicle transmission.
[0015] FIG 1a illustrates a perspective view of a split grommet assembly for a gear shifter cable system and FIG 1b illustrates a cut section side view of a split grommet assembly for a vehicle’s transmission system. The assembly (100) as indicated in FIG 1a and FIG 1b comprises a primary grommet (101) which is overmolded on a grommet plate (102), wherein the primary grommet (101) integrates the passenger compartment with the engine compartment of a vehicle vehicle floor and a sealing bead (103) which acts as a sealing between the passenger compartment and the engine compartment .
[0016] Further, the assembly (100) comprises at least one pair of split grommets (104a, 104b) which is removably accommodated within the primary grommet (101). The pair of split grommets (104a, 104b) is capable of being individually assembled or disassembled from the primary grommet (101) based on the requirement of one or more users.
[0017] FIG 1c illustrates an implementation of a split grommet assembly for a gear shifter cable system, wherein the assembly (100) comprising the pair of split grommets (104a, 104b) allows the pair of split grommets (104a, 104b) secures a pair of transmission cables i.e. the “shift” and “select” cables connected between the passenger compartment and the engine compartment of the vehicle for enabling vehicle transmission. Simultaneously, the assembly (100) acts as a sealing between the passenger compartment and the engine compartment. In one embodiment, in case of failure of either “shift” or “select cable”, the failed cable may be individually replaced using the corresponding split grommet (104a,104b) thereby eliminating the complete replacement of both the “shift” and “select” cables. Further, the pair of split grommets (104a, 104b) is capable of being retrofitted in the existing primary grommets (101).
[0018] The present invention provides a simple implementation of the assembly (100), wherein the assembly (100) allows the split grommets (104a, 104b) to be easily disassembled individually when either transmission cable i.e. the “shift” and “select” cables are required to be replaced individually. This feature not only reduces the overall expenditure but also eliminates unnecessary replacement of cables which are in optimum working condition. Additionally, the assembly (100) may be retrofitted in the existing primary grommets (101) or customized based on the users’ requirements.
[0019] While at least one exemplary embodiment has been presented in the foregoing detailed description, it should be appreciated that a vast number of variations exist.
