Abstract: The present disclosure discloses a steering lock assembly (100) for a vehicle. The lock assembly (100) comprises a housing (1), a locking element (2), a switch (3) and an actuation mechanism (4). The locking element (2) is rotatably disposed in the housing (1) to receive a key (5) and selectively lock and unlock a steering column of the vehicle upon receiving the key (5). The actuation mechanism (4) is configured to selectively actuate the switch (3) based on rotation of the locking element (2). The contact plate (4a) is connectable to the locking element (2) and is configured to receive a carrier (4b) defined with a projection (4c) on one end. The projection (4c) of the carrier (4b) is configured to actuate the switch (3) upon rotation of the locking element (2). With such configuration, the assembly (100) may reduce space required for additional switches in a vehicle. Figure 1a is a representative figure.
DESC:PLEASE SEE THE ATTACHMENTS. ,CLAIMS:We Claim:
1. An actuation mechanism (4) for a lock assembly (100) of a vehicle, the actuation mechanism (4) comprising:
a contact plate (4a) connectable to a locking element (2), wherein the contact plate (4a) is adapted to rotate with the locking element (2);
at least one carrier (4b) member rotatably coupled to the contact plate (4a) and configured to rotate between a first position (FP) and a second position (SP), wherein the at least one carrier (4b) is configured with at least one projection (4c) on one end, and
wherein the at least one projection (4c) is configured to selectively engage and disengage with a switch (3) on rotation of the at least one carrier (4b).
2. The actuation mechanism (4) as claimed in claim 1, wherein at least a portion of the switch (3) intrudes into a housing (1) of the lock assembly (100).
3. The actuation mechanism (4) as claimed in claim 1, wherein the at least one projection (4c) is defined with a cam profile on one end of the at least one carrier (4b) configured to slide on a portion of the switch (3).
4. The actuation mechanism (4) as claimed in claim 3, wherein the cam profile of the at least one projection (4c) is defined to disengage with the switch (3) in the first position (FP) and engage with the switch (3) in the second position (SP) on rotation of the locking element (2).
5. The actuation mechanism (4) as claimed in claim 1, wherein the contact plate (4a) comprises a plurality of electrical contacts.
6. The actuation mechanism (4) as claimed in claim 1, wherein the contact plate (4a) is defined with a body (41a) and a plurality of extended portions (42a) extending from the body (41a) and parallel to the locking element (2).
7. The actuation mechanism (4) as claimed in claim 6, wherein each portion of the plurality of extended portions (42a) of the contact plate (4a) is defined with a protrusion (4d) to receive and secure the at least one carrier (4b).
8. A steering lock assembly (100) for a vehicle, the assembly (100) comprising:
a housing (1);
a locking element (2) rotatably disposed in the housing (1) to receive a key (5), the locking element (2) is configured to selectively lock and unlock a steering column of the vehicle;
a switch (3) disposable at an end of the housing (1); and
an actuation mechanism (4) configured to selectively actuate the switch (3), the actuation mechanism (4) comprising:
a contact plate (4a) connectable to a locking element (2), wherein the contact plate (4a) is adapted to rotate with the locking element (2);
at least one carrier (4b) member rotatably coupled to the contact plate (4a) and configured to rotate between a first position (FP) and a second position (SP), wherein the at least one carrier (4b) is configured with at least one projection (4c) on one end, and
wherein the at least one projection (4c) is configured to selectively engage and disengage with a switch (3) on rotation of the at least one carrier (4b).
9. The steering lock assembly (100) as claimed in claim 8, wherein the locking element (2) is defined with a locking section configured to receive the contact plate (4a).
10. The steering lock assembly (100) as claimed in claim 8, wherein the switch (3) is a microswitch.
11. The steering lock assembly (100) as claimed in claim 8, wherein the switch (3) and the actuation mechanism (4) are positioned proximal to the locking element (2) in a base (9) of the housing (1) wherein the locking element (2) may be adapted to engage with at least a portion of the actuation mechanism (4) and the switch (3).
