A steering mechanism for an appliance comprising: a housing and a body, the body being connected to the housing so as to allow relative rotation therebetween about a vertical axis; at least one rolling support member mounted on a horizontal axle located so as to intersect the vertical axis; and a handle portion extending radially outwardly from the vertical axis, characterised in that the axle is mounted on the body and the handle portion is rigidly connected to the body such that rotation of the handle portion about the vertical axis causes turning of the axle to allow steering of the appliance.
