Ease of assembly as no additional bolt tightening process is required.
FIELD OF INVENTION
This invention is related to a stopper for prevention of pipe rotation in motor
vehicle particularly in dynamic condition of vehicle.
BACKGROUND/PRIOR ART
A typical fuel system· piping as illustrated in fig. 1 carries fuel from fuel storage
tank (l)to engine (2),. consists of a plurality of connectors, ~lips, rubber hoses,
metal and resin tubes. Depending on the type of vehicle the fuel system piping
(3) runs from tank to engine throughout the vehicle length. To add stability, the
fuel system piping is usually fixed with other parts such as body panels
through various means like resin clamps or sheet metal welded brackets (4).
One common problem associated with using single resin clamp to fix the fuel
pipe is rotation of fuel pipe inside the resin clamp. Due to this rotation the fuel
pipe layout varies as the pipe is free to move, causing fouling of fuel piping with
other parts during vehicle running condition. Further, resin clamp edges in
contact with the pipe can damage the pipe itself during rotation. ·This may
eventually lead to damage to the fuel piping, fuel leakage and fire.
According to current provision as ·shown in fig 2, a clamping bracket (B) is
employed to clamp the pipe (P) with the body panel· so as to avoid free
movement of the pipe in dynamic condition of vehicle due to vibration.
The bracket. as shown is made of sheet metal, which is provided with a hole (H)
for bolting with the body panel and an anti rotation feature (F). The metallic
pipe is brazed with said bracket.
-3-
However, the aforesaid provision involves the disadvantages listed hereinunder.
More surface area of brazing, which leads to high cost of brazing
operation.
More assembly time due to bolting.
More number of child parts including bolt and nut.
Damage to the pipe during bolting with the body panel.
According to another prior art (fig. 3) a resin clamp (C) is implemented to hold
the pipe ·(P), in which the clamp is stud mounted on body panel (D).
'The disadvantages of the above are as follows:
Rotation of pipe takes place during assembly j dynamic condition causing
fuelline to foul with adjacent parts.
Damage to the fuel pipe may occur due to rotation of the pipe with usage,
which can result in fuel leakage and vehicle fire.
It may affect functionality with adjacent parts.
A patent (US5839703) in this regard discloses an anti-rotation bracket
including a U-shaped member, an attachment mechanism for securing the U-:shaped
member to an appliance, and at least one clip extending from each of
two legs of the U-shaped member for securing a rectangular crimped section of
a pipe. The space between. two legs of the U-ni.ember receives the rectangular
section of the pipe. The clips extend inward from ·each of the legs towards an
opposite one of the legs and are configured to engage one of the flat surfaces of
the rectangular section of the pipe to prevent rotation of the pipe with respect
to the bracket when the bracket is attached to the .appliance .

In. v1cw of the. above, there IS a requirement to introduce a stopper for·
prevention .of pipe rotation ~n .motor vehicle, which is proposed by this
application.
OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION
1\.n object of this invention is to propose a stopper for prevention of p1pe
rotation in motor vehicle which obviates the shortcomings of prior arts.
Another object of this invention is to propose a stopper for prevention of pipe
:rotation in motor vehicle which secures fuel pipe at one position.
Further object of this invention is to propose ·a. stopper for prevention of pipe
rotation in motor vehicle which avoids damage to the fuel pipe and fouling with
adjacent parts.
~U!Wll\IIARY OF INVENTION
According to this invention there is provided a stopper for prevention of pipe
rotation in motor vehicle comprising a bracket, one member· of which is fixedly
secured to fuel pipe and another member is in engagement with a resin clamp.

l:HCTill.L DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION WITH REFERENCE To· THE
&CCOMPANYING DRAWINGS
The present invention is directed to a stopper for prevention of pipe rotation in
rrwtor vehicle particularly in dynamic condition of vehicle.
Now, reference may be made to fig 4A and 48. The stopper (1') compnses a.
bracket having substantially a L-section. The stopper comprises one member
(2') integrated to another member (3') subtending right angle as shown. One
member(2')is a flat member (2') and another member (3') is having a cut (4') to
receive fuel pipe (P).
5
'fhe profile of the cut corresponds to a curved section of pipe to be supported
by said cut. Therefore, the cut is having substantially U-section.
;fhe flat member (2') is engaged into· slot (5') of resin clamp (6') during assembly
and another member of the bracket is fixedly secured with the pipe surf8r.F. as
best seen in fig 4B. The pipe is fixed to another member at its cut by brazing
without restricting scope of the invention to the same.
I I ere the surface of pipe directing towards the slot is employed for the brazing.
'I'he resin clamp is snap fitted to body side bracket with stud bolt (7', fig 4A).
The' above provision of invention restricts rotation of the pipe by fixing the
same in one position.
According to another embodiment of invention as illustrated 1n fig 5, the
stopper comprises a bracket (T) having substantially a T -section. The bracket
includes two members (T1, T2) orthogonal and integrated to each other forming
a single piece.
One rne;rnber (T1) Is fixedly secured to the pipe surface exposed through the
clamp and another member (T2) rests on the top surface (A) of the clamp as
best sce11 in fig 5. The standing member (T1) is accommodated in the space (S)
·between top two parts of the resin clamp.
Here, the stopper in the form of bracket is fixedly provided with the fuel pipe by
brazing without restricting its ambit to the same.
The stopper is sheet metal bracket preferably made of carbon steel.
Advantageous Fe a tu:res
