Abstract: The present disclosure describes a sunscreen spray formulation comprising (a) ethyltrisiloxane (ETS); and (b) a combination of (i) at least one lipid soluble sunscreen; and (ii) at least one water soluble sunscreen, wherein the formulation is essentially alcohol free; wherein the formulation is a transparent dual-phase system and wherein upon shaking, the dual phase clarifies in less than 60 seconds. The disclosure also describes a process of preparation of said sunscreen spray formulation.
Claims:1. A sunscreen spray formulation comprising:
ethyltrisiloxane (ETS); and
a combination of at least one lipid soluble sunscreen; and
at least one water soluble sunscreen,
wherein the formulation is essentially alcohol free; wherein the formulation is a transparent dual-phase system and wherein upon shaking, the dual phase clarifies in less than 60 seconds.
2. The formulation as claimed in claim 1, further comprising at least one other silicone selected from the group consisting of cyclopentasiloxane, cyclopentasiloxane (and) phenyl trimethicone (and) dimethiconol (and) C12-15 alkyl benzoate (and) dimethicone, dimethicone, cyclopentasiloxane (and) dimethiconol, cyclopentasiloxane (and) dimethicone, and combinations thereof.
3. The formulation as claimed in claim 1, wherein the at least one lipid soluble sunscreen is selected from the group consisting of octyl methoxycinnamate (OMC), octocrylene, avobenzone, octisalate, and combinations thereof.
4. The formulation as claimed in claim 1, wherein the at least one water soluble sunscreen is selected from the group consisting of phenylbenzimidazole sulfonic acid (PBSA), dibenzimidazole tetrasulfonate (DPDT), methylene bis-benzotriazolyl tetramethylbutylphenol (Tinosorb M), titanium dioxide, and combinations thereof.
5. A dual phase sunscreen spray formulation comprising:
(a) ethyltrisiloxane (ETS) having weight percentage in the range of 5 – 20% with respect to the formulation;
(b) at least one lipid soluble sunscreen having weight percentage in the range of 8 – 12% with respect to the formulation; and
(c) at least one water soluble sunscreen having weight percentage in the range of 2 – 6% with respect to the formulation.
6. The dual phase sunscreen spray formulation as claimed in claim 5, further comprising at least one other silicone having weight percentage in the range of 5 – 30% with respect to the formulation and selected from the group consisting of cyclopentasiloxane, cyclopentasiloxane (and) phenyl trimethicone (and) dimethiconol (and) C12-15 alkyl benzoate (and) dimethicone, dimethicone, cyclopentasiloxane (and) dimethiconol, cyclopentasiloxane (and) dimethicone, and combinations thereof.

The dual phase sunscreen spray formulation as claimed in claim 5, wherein: (a) the at least one lipid soluble sunscreen is octyl methoxycinnamate (OMC); and (b) the at least one water soluble sunscreen is a combination of (i) disodium phenyl dibenzimidazole tetrasulfonate (DPDT) having weight percentage in the range of 1 – 3% with respect to the formulation and (ii) phenylbenzimidazole sulfonic acid (PBSA) having weight percentage in the range of 1 – 3% with respect to the formulation.
8. The dual phase sunscreen spray formulation as claimed in any of the claims 5 – 7, wherein the formulation is essentially alcohol free; wherein the formulation is a transparent dual-phase system and wherein upon shaking, the dual phase clarifies in less than 60 seconds.
9. The formulation as claimed in any of the claims 1 – 8, further comprising at least one cosmetically acceptable excipient selected from the group consisting of preservative, humectant, neutralizer, colorant, and combinations thereof.
10. The formulation as claimed in claim 9, wherein the: (a) preservative has a weight percentage in the range of 0.01 – 1% with respect to the formulation and is selected from the group consisting of 2-phenoxyethanol, butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT), ethylenediaminetetraaceticacid (EDTA) and combinations thereof; (b) humectant has a weight percentage in the range of 0.1 – 20% with respect to the formulation and is selected from the group consisting of sorbitol, glycerin, propylene glycol, butylene glycol, hexylene glycol, ethoxylated glucose, 1, 2-hexane diol, hexanetriol, dipropylene glycol, erythritol, trehalose, diglycerin, xylitol, maltitol, maltose, glucose, fructose, sodium chondroitin sulfate, sodium hyaluronate, sodium adenosin phosphate, sodium lactate, pyrrolidone carbonate, glucosamine, cyclodextrin, and combinations thereof; (c) neutralizer has a weight percentage in the range of 0.05 – 5% with respect to the formulation and is neutralizer is triethanolamine (TEA); and (d) colorant has a weight percentage in the range of 0.0005 – 0.001% with respect to the formulation and is selected from the group consisting of CI 18965, CI 45100, cosmenyl red BLS granules, vitasyn orange dye, cosmenyl blue, vitasyn blue AE 90, and cosmenyl green.
11. The formulation as claimed in any of the claims 1 – 10, comprising water having weight percentage as much as is required to make the formulation 100%.
12. A process for the preparation of sunscreen spray formulation as claimed in claim 1, comprising the steps of:
(a) obtaining ethyltrisiloxane (ETS)
(b) obtaining at least one lipid soluble sunscreen
(c) obtaining at least one water soluble sunscreen
(d) contacting ethyltrisiloxane, at least one lipid soluble sunscreen, and at least one water soluble sunscreen to obtain the sunscreen spray formulation.
13. A process for the preparation of formulation as claimed in any of claims 1 – 11, comprising the steps of:
(a) contacting water, humectant, and preservative to obtain a first mixture;
(b) contacting the first mixture with at least one water soluble sunscreen, and neutralizer to obtain a second mixture;
(c) contacting the second mixture and colorant to obtain an aqueous phase;
(d) contacting the at least one lipid soluble sunscreen, and at least one other silicone to obtain a third mixture;
(e) contacting the third mixture and ethyl trisiloxane to obtain a silicone phase;
(f) contacting the aqueous phase and silicone phase to obtain the sunscreen spray formulation.
14. The process as claimed in claim 13, comprising the steps of: (a) contacting water, humectant, and preservative to obtain a first mixture at a temperature in the range of 20 – 35 oC, at a stirring speed in the range of 70 – 130 rpm for a period in the range of 2 – 20 minutes; (b) contacting the first mixture, at least one water soluble sunscreen, and neutralizer to obtain a second mixture at a temperature in the range of 20 – 35 oC, at a stirring speed of 70 – 130 rpm for a period of 2 – 20 minutes; (c) contacting the second mixture and colorant to obtain an aqueous phase at a temperature in the range of 20 – 30 oC, at a stirring speed in the range of 70 - 130 rpm for a period in the range of 2 - 20 minutes; (d) contacting the at least one lipid soluble sunscreen and at least one other silicone to obtain a third mixture at a temperature in the range of 20 – 35 oC, at a stirring speed in the range of 70 – 130 rpm for a period in the range of 2 – 10 minutes; (e) contacting the third mixture and ethyl trisiloxane to obtain a silicone phase at a temperature in the range of 20 – 35 oC, at a stirring speed in the range of 70 - 130 rpm for a period in the range of 2 - 10 minutes; (f) contacting the aqueous phase and silicone phase to obtain the sunscreen spray formulation at a temperature in the range of 20 – 35 oC.
