Abstract: The present invention relates to a system and method for measuring the flow rate of water and adding desired amount of silver into the water by a micro controller. More particularly, the present invention relates to monitoring of flow rate of output water thereby controlling the dosage of silver ions. Refer to Figures 1-2.
FIELD OF THE INVENTION:
[001] The present invention relates to a system and method for measuring the flow rate of water and adding desired amount of silver into the water by a micro controller. More particularly, the present invention relates to monitoring of flow rate of output water thereby controlling the dosage of silver ions.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION:
[002] Silver is used as biostatic agent and mild disinfectant after filtration steps for increasing the shelf life of the water. It has been observed that with the passage of time/ chocking of filter water quantity coming out of the RO filters varies and most of the current ionization systems use fixed silver dosage for the treatment irrespective of the filtration rate; this cause increase of concentration of silver salts in drinking water over the permissible limit. Silver has been used for water disinfection since many decades, and numerous commercial water filters using silver are currently being marketed today.
[003] The silver ions have high antimicrobial ability; they have the effect of killing various fungi at extremely small amount, since it is less harmful be orally ingested to the human body, as a metal ion having antibacterial properties, at least silver ion it is preferable to include.
[004] Water filter systems using ceramic filters coated in the anti-bacterial agent colloidal silver have been shown to be effective in eliminating bacteria in contaminated household water in various locations around the world.
[005] The World Health Organization's (WHO) guidelines state that, "where silver ions are used to maintain the bacteriological quality of drinking-water, levels of silver up to 0.1 mg/liter can be tolerated without risk to health." So, basically if the silver ion concentration is increasing over the permissible limit in drinking water, it may be harmful.
[006] Although some efforts are made to control the concentration of silver ions in filtered water; for example JP2007167785 mentions that when the flow rate of the membrane filtration treatment water varies, in order to control the silver ion concentration to a predetermined level, a flow meter for measuring the flow rate of the membrane filtration process water, between the membrane filtration cartridge and antimicrobial unit placed, it is preferable to provide an electric circuit for controlling the current of the electrodes of the antimicrobial unit in accordance with the flow rate output from the flow meter. Here, it is preferable to provide an electric circuit for inverting the polarity of the voltage applied to the electrodes at predetermined time intervals in order to prevent the generation of silver chloride on the anode surface of the antimicrobial unit.
[007] Patent Document US20180297862A1 teaches about an electronic control system able to determine the flow rate of fluid and regulate the production of sanitizing substances accordingly to achieve a consistent and controlled chemical concentration in the outlet stream of the device.
[008] However, present invention is less complicated and cost effective over the prior arts. The silver ionizer as stated in the prior art only provides the fixed amount of silver into water irrespective of the flow rate passing through it.
OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION:
[009] The objective of the present invention is to design a system and method for measuring the flow rate of the output water and adding desired amount of silver into the water.
[010] Yet another objective of the instant invention is to design a system and method for controlling the dosage of the silver ions required for addition to said water.
[Oil] The instant invention achieves the objective by installation of a flow sensor capable of monitoring the filtration rate and provide intimation to PCB for the desired amount of silver dosing.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION:
[012] The present invention relates to a system and method for measuring the flow rate of water and adding desired amount of silver into the water by a micro controller. More particularly, the present invention relates to monitoring of flow rate of output water thereby controlling the dosage of silver ions.
[013] As we know that the water quantity coming out of the RO filters varies with time; the instant invention shall monitor the flow of the water coming out of the filter and depending on this dosage of the silver ions entering will be controlled. This can be done using a flow sensor which can monitor filtration rate which in return sends intimation to PCB for the desired amount of silver dosing. So basically, users do not need to worry about the increase of silver in water with change in flow rate due to choking of filter or with time.
[014] Silver ionizer currently available only provides the fixed amount of silver into water irrespective of the flow rate passing through it. The present invention measures the flow rate and micro controller directs the silver ionizer to add desired quantity of silver into water thereby preventing the loading of silver beyond the desired value required for disinfection. The flow is monitored by the flow sensor which measures the flow and send information to PCB. Micro Controller controls the silver leaching based on the flow.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS:
[015] Figure 1 illustrates flow diagram of the proposed invention.
[016] The water quantity coming out of the RO filters varies with time. The instant invention shall monitor the flow of the water coming out of the filter and depending on this dosage of the silver ions entering will be controlled. This can be done using a flow sensor which can monitor filtration rate and provide intimation to PCB for the desired amount of silver dosing thereby preventing the loading of silver beyond the desired value required for disinfection. The flow is monitored by the flow sensor which measures the flow and send information to PCB Micro Controller wherein said controller controls the silver leaching based on the flow. The dosage of silver ions may be controlled by an external PCB as described in Figure 1 or by an in-built controller in silver cartridge as illustrated in Figure 2. Said configurations follow the feed forward the mechanism as flow is measured as the water enters the silver cartridges, resulting dosage remaining in the control.
