, Description:FIELD OF THE INVENTION:
The present invention relates to a speech generating system for promoting communications. The present invention more particularly relates to a system and method for speech generation for speech disabled individuals to communicate with other individuals or speech disabled individuals.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION:
Strokes, traumatic brain injuries, head injuries results into aphasia. This disease causes inability to produce language and comprehending language due to injury in brain area. Some people suffering from this disease may be able to speak but not able to write or any disabilities such as these people may not be able to speak. Infants with cerebral palsy (CP) grow up to become passive children with limited or nonexistent speech even when the infant possesses apparently normal cognitive skills.
The infants with CP are estimated to be a least one per thousand live births. Some CP infants are likely to suffer from diminished control of the vocal tract and the respiratory system upon which speech depends. They lack the means for providing consistent signals to their parents or other caregivers that are available to normal infants. As a result, caregivers are unable to discern patterns of behavior to which they can attach meaning and respond accordingly. Ultimately, physically disabled infants are likely to grow up passive and with a diminished motivation to learn.
Physically disabled infants are unable to control the motor systems upon which speech is dependent, or the manual systems for playing with objects or making gestures. Due to motor impairment, they may also show little facial affect. Consequently, they lack the means for providing consistent signals to their parents or other caregivers that are available to normal infants. As a result, caregivers are unable to discern patterns of behavior to which they can attach meaning and respond accordingly. Ultimately, physically disabled infants are likely to grow up passive and with a diminished motivation to learn.
Normal infants gradually develop the concept that an action brings about a consequence. The infant's early attempts at vocalization may be seen as an exploration of cause and effect using the vocal mechanism. Actions such as banging and shaking are developed and reinforced by interesting consequences. Also, toys are designed to help the child in his or her explorations of cause and effect relationships. However, physically disabled infants are frequently limited in their ability to explore the environment and to vocalize, resulting in delayed or attenuated development.
There are many devices in the market to help individuals with aphasia to regain their speech, but there are few known devices which can be used to help them communicate. Typically, such devices provide only a rudimentary means of communication in which only a few simple commands may be initiated.
So there is need for a system and method for speech generation for speech disabled individuals to communicate with other individuals or speech disabled individuals.
OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION:
The main object of the present invention is to provide an efficient system and method for speech disabled individuals to communicate with other individuals or speech disabled individuals.
Yet another object of the present invention is to provide an easy means of communication to improve the ability so as to explore the environment and to vocalize, resulting in delayed or attenuated development.
Other objects and benefits of the present invention will be more apparent from the following description, which is not intended to bind the scope of the present invention.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION:
Accordingly, a communication system and method for physically disabled individuals is disclosed. The present invention provides a computer implemented method of encouraging users to engage an individual suffering from impaired memory on a frequent basis and in a meaningful way to promote self-sufficiency and cognition. A method for communication of physically disabled individuals with other individuals comprising the steps of; Registering user to the website database; Creating user profiles in the website database; Requesting to the database to communicate users; Receiving input from the user; translating input; Modifying speech to text and to Braile language; and Sending the Braile language text to the user.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS:
Fig 1 is a System and method for communication of physically disabled individuals with other individuals.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
The present invention is a communication system and method for physically disabled individuals is disclosed. The present invention enables the communication between physically disabled users. The present invention provides a computer implemented method of encouraging users to engage an individual suffering from impaired memory on a frequent basis and in a meaningful way to promote self-sufficiency and cognition, all under the direction and supervision of a primary caretaker (user) such as a close family member, friend or professional caretaker.
In present system, User can register to the website database and register himself/herself. In this way, user profiles are created in the internal database of the website. For user profile creation, user has to register using his basic information (full name, telephone no, address, contact no) on the website database and after registration only, user can request to communicate with other users. User receives some input from other user through communication and based on this input received from user, user can take the speech of another physically disabled user and can record the speech and send it to translation of input received in the form of speech to text which further gets converted in Braile language using Braile translator. The produced Braile language text is sent to user for further communication. In this way, communication can be carried out between normal user and physically disabled user.
The present invention encourages friends, family and other such individuals (caregivers) of an individual suffering from memory impairment (sufferer) to communicate more frequently and more purposefully with the sufferer to reduce feelings of isolation, loneliness, low self-worth, confusion, agitation, embarrassment and deteriorating quality of life associated with their impairment. Web-based service to which the sufferer subscribes and through which caregivers send text, image, voice and other forms of data for receipt by the sufferer having a simple user interface. The Web application tracks and records the type (i.e., text, photograph, and video) of communications sent by and displays them on a webpage for all other persons to see, thus encourages more frequent communication between users. The Web application can also be programmed to send electronic reminders to all users who opt-in to the service requesting that they send a communication to the sufferer, and more particularly to individual users whose frequency of communication has been inadequate.
A method for communication of physically disabled individuals with other individuals comprising the steps of;
Registering user to the website database;
Creating user profiles in the website database;
Requesting to the database to communicate users;
Receiving input from the user;
Translating input;
Modifying speech to text and to Braile language; and
Sending the Braile language text to the user.
A system for communication of physically disabled individuals with other individuals comprising the steps of;
A communication network such as internet to receive input;
User’s computer/laptop connected to the internet;
A website database for storing user profiles;
A speech recognition system;
A translation system; and
Braile language generator.
The present invention provides simple user interface which is carried by the sufferer and through which the sufferer receives, memory invoking messages in the form of text, images, voice and video sent by his or her caretakers through a Web based application. The present invention helps to store communications received from caregivers thereby creating an archive of memories which may be easily accessed by the sufferer. The unique aspect of this message system is that it is “care” related. All caregivers are encouraged to make contact which is “scored” on the website through which they enter.
A report is generated through website database based on at least one of the following communication data for each at least one caregiver:
a. Days passed since last communication of any type;
b. Average number of days between communications;
c. Days passed since last text message sent;
d. Days passed since last picture sent;
e. Days passed since last video sent;
f. Text message over total communication ratio;
g. Picture over total communication ratio;
h. Video over total communication ratio.
Alerts are being sent when a particular period of time has elapsed since one caregiver's last communication to the person with impaired memory. Rating of one caregiver's communication activity is based on a comparison of communication data with desired levels of communication.
Some rewards and ranking is also given to some users based on frequency of communication with the person having low memory. Ranking is decided on the basis of level of communication activity of one caregiver by their relative to one another.
