Specification

FIELD OF INVENTION:
[001] The present invention relates to the watch dial and its method of
. .
manufacturing. The presen~ invention in particular relates to the watch dial and its
method of baking watch dial for providing elegant look.
5 DESCRIPTION OF THE RELATED ART:
[002] Watch dials are already known having repousse indicia which are embossed
in a plate which may be made of various materials. Once the indicia have been
embossed, it is known to color the plate by diverse methods, then to give a different
coloring just to the top surfaces of the repousse indicia. According to the coloring
10 method used, the layer of coloring on the top surfaces of the indicia may first be
removed, e.g., by diamond polishing. At first glance, this type of dial does give the
impression of being provided with applique indicia, but upon closer examination, it
\ .
will be realized that they are not appliqued after all because the sides of the indicia
are not the same color as their top surfaces• but rather the same color as the
15 background. Moreover, the materials used heretofore for manufacturing this type
of dial did not lend themselves to making the dials particularly attractive, e.g., by
means of a relief-like design in the middle of the dial plate.
Reference may be made to the following:
[003] Patent No US3989603 relates to a method of manufacturing a watch dial with
symbols in relief wherein a plate of aluminum-base material, not yet provided with
reliefs, first undergoes a basic anodizing treatment, then relief elements are formed
by an embossing operation so that the aluminum-base material of the plate appears,
free of oxidizing, on all visible side surfaces of the embossed relief elements, the
tenacious nature of the anodizing ensuring a clear and crackless demarcation
between these bared side surfaces and the remaining anodized surface of the plate.
The oxidized layer is then removed from the upper surface of the relief elements so
that both the upper and side surfaces of each relief element are bared .. A second
anodizing treatment is then applied to the bared surfaces for imparting to them a
particular aspect, different from the one given by the basic anodizing, thus
conferring upon these relief elements the appearance of real appliques. The 'present
invention is not using anodizing treatment. Lacqering is done directly on the dial
5 which is polishable whereas anodizing is not polishable. Also through present
invention thick layer can be applied.
[004] Publication No AD6078396 relates to surface treatment coating and texturing
of materials and more particularly to the decorative surface treatment and
modification of materials, for example metals. Whilst in the invention reference is
10 made to etching and texturing of aluminium or aluminium alloy materials as part of
an anodising process, the invention is not limited to such techniques and
technology. The present invention is not using etching and texturing . Lacqering is
done directly on the brass dial which is polishable whereas anodizing is not •
polishable.
15 [005] Publication No GB20 15577 relates to a method of forming patterns upon a
dial plate or masking plate of a 5 timepiece, by embossing the dial plate or masking
plate with a mold formed by an electroforming process. We are not doing pattern
formation. The present invention applies lacquer directly on the dial which is
20
25
polishable whereas anodizing is not polishable.
[006] Publication No US4583866 relates to watch dial is provided comprising a
plastic or metal base plate. The base plate has thereon an uneven portion embodying
a surface design, letter, window, symbol or mark. The uneven portion is formed by
exposing photosensitive resin to ultraviolet light. The surface of the photosensitive
resin portion of the base plate is metal-plated. The present invention does not
exposes photosensitive resin portion of the base plate is metal-plated
[007] ~ublication No W020161775_14 relates to a rp'ethod for producing a mu.ltilayer
lacquer finish on a metal substrate, wherein a base coat layer or a plurality of
base coat layers directly following one another are produced directly on a metal
• substrate coated with a hardened electrophoretic dip coating, a clear lacquer layer
. '
5 is produced directly on one of or on the uppermost of the plurality of base coat
layers, and then the .one or the plurality of base coatlayers and the clear lacquer
layer are hardened together. The method is characterised in that at least one base
coat used for producing the base• coat layers comprises at least one aqueous
polyurethane-polyurea dispersion (PD) containing polyurethane-polyurea particles,
10 wherein the polyurethane-polyurea. particl_es contained in the dispersion_ (PD)
contain anionic groups and/or groups which can be converted into anionic groups
arid have a mean particle size of 40 to 2000 nm and a gel content of at least 50%.
The present invention does not u~e electrophoretic dip coating. It is only doing paint
coating on watch dial
15 [008] Publication No JPS55146075relates to the feeling of cube for the thickness
of print ink flat with building-up lamination by means of refractive effect of light
and to give external feeling with luster independently of dial surface c~irrseness ..
Constitution: On the surface of the dial 1 performing surface treatment, opaque ink
• 2 is printed with the intaglio pad print. Fu$er, on it, the transparent or semi-
20 transparent paint or ink of the same shape is printed with screen print with the
medium 3 of 511 OOmm. thick. With •this constitution, since the medium 3 looks like
the same color as the ink 2, luster is increased and the feeling of cube is obtained.
. .
Further, in above, before the ink 2 is hardened, thermosetti~g clear powder-paint 4 .
is attached, this is heated at 150 deg.C for 20 minutes and baking and hardening are
25 made, to obtain the Saine effect as above.
[009] Thus sudden baking of dials can cause formation of bubbles and other
anomalies on the dial. Hence a method is needed which can eliminates the
anomalies and provides better quality of dials.
[010] The present invention aims to provide a watch dial and its method of baking
for providing elegant look. Accordingly, lacquering is done directly on the dial
which is polishable and provides smooth finish. Also through present invention
5 thick and smooth layer of paint can be formed on the dial.
OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION:
[011] The principal object of the present invention is to provide a watch dial and its
method ofbaking for providing elegant look
[012] Another object of the present invention is to provide the method of drying the
10 laquer polish dials without any defect
15
[013] Yet aanother object ofthe present invention is to eliminate the formation of
bubbles and other anomalies on the dial, provide flat look & smooth finish and
increases the yield
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION:
[014] The present invention relates to a watch dial and its method of baking for
providing elegant look. The invention provides a method of drying the lacquer
polish without any defect. For intermediate drying and hardening the lacquer
producing multicoated paint systems, dials are baked stepwise and raise the
temperature in steps. Such as but not limited to first bake at 30- 50 degrees for 2
20 hrs, then at 70-90 degrees for 2 hrs, then at 90-11 0 degrees for 2 hrs and finally at
110-130 degrees for "2hrs, At 140 degree for 30 minute .so that solvents can
evaporate successfully & comparatively smooth coating layer is formed.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION:
[015] The present invention provides a watch dial and its method of baking for
providing elegant look. The invention provides a method of drying the lacquer •
polish without any defect. For intermediate drying and hardening the lacquer
5 producing multicoated paint systems, dials are baked stepwise and raise the
temperature in steps. Such as but not limited to first bake at 30- 50 degrees for 2
hrs, then at 70-90 degrees for 2 hrs, then at 90-11 0 degrees for 2hrs and finally at
110-130 degrees for 2hrs, at 140 degrees for 30minute so that solvents can
evaporate successfully & comparatively smooth coating layer is formed.
10 [016] The present process eliminates the formation of bubbles & other anomalies
on the dial and increases the yield. Because of slow heating & in steps from 30*c
to 140*c in 8 hrs as mentioned below avoids the formation of bubbles.
a) first bake at 30- 50 degrees for 2 hrs,
b) then at 70-90 degrees for 2 hrs,
15 c) then at 90-110 degrees for 2 hrs
20
d) then at 11 0-13 0 degrees for 2hrs,
e) at 140 degrees for 30 minute
[017] Thus the solvents can evaporate successfully & comparatively smooth
coating layer is formed .
[018] Lacquering is done directly on the dial which is polishable and provides
smooth finish. Also through present invention thick and smooth layer of paint can
be applied on the dial. Thus the reliability of the lacquer polished dial is increased .
[019] As in multicoat dials, it is not possible to dry uniformly the lacquer without
defects and achieve hard surface. In an embodiment, the dial Plate material is brass,
colour paint & then Thick glossy transparent paint. Thus flat elegant surface of
uniform thickness is achieved without dent & pin holes.
Numerous modifications and adaptations of the system of the present
5 invention will be apparent to those skilled in the art, and thus it is intended by
the appended claims to cover all such modifications and adaptations which fall
within the true spirit and scope of this invention
