BACKGROUND
Nowadays, utilization of biometric data to verify authenticity of people is a common practice. Biometric data typically includes data corresponding to the finger print(s), palm print(s), image of retina, image of iris and digital photograph. High security buildings, banks and international airports are the places where normally process of biometric data verification is employed. Based on the result of the biometric authentication process the person undergoing the authentication process will either be allowed to proceed or denied the necessary permissions. Biometric information is broadly classified into two categories namely physiological biometric data and behavioral biometric data. Physiological biometric data corresponds to the physical aspects of people and includes fingerpririt(s), digital photograph, palm print(s), image of iris and image of retina. The aspects of behavioral biometric characteristics, also referred to as behaviometrics include but are not restricted to gait, rhythm of the voice and typing rhythm.
Moreover, systems that are currently used for capturing the biometric data items and demographic data items do not employ a common IT infrastructure. The system streamlines the process of collection of biometric and demographic data and also makes the process of data collection simpler and efficient. Further, the system in accordance with the present disclosure provides for integration of biometric and demographic data items thereby ensuring that an integrated data profile containing both the biometric data items as well as the

demographic data items can be created. Moreover, the system also enables for selected biometric data items and selected demographic data items to be integrated into a solitary profile thereby catering diversified data requirements. Further, the system temporarily stores the biometric data items and demographic data items corresponding to users and deletes stored biometric and demographic data items subsequent to creation of the integrated profile, thereby ensuring that the captured biometric and demographic data items are not misappropriated.
Referring to FIGURE 1, the system 100 for integrating biometric and demographic data items(s) includes a capturing module denoted by the reference numeral 12 which captures biometric data items and demographic data items corresponding to users. Biometric data items of the users, captured by the capturing module 12 include but are not restricted to finger print(s), thumb impression(s), photographs of respective users, hand signatures of users, palm print(s), image of iris and image of retina. Demographic data item(s) captured by the capturing module 12 include but are not restricted to users' age, mobility, income levels, gender, disabilities, educational qualification and employment status. The capturing module 12 captures the demographic data corresponding to users either by instructing users to fill up a paper based form with the necessary details and thereafter scanning the paper based form to capture the demographic information, or by instructing users to fill up a digital form which could be provided via a computer and thereafter retrieving the necessary demographic information from the computer. The capturing module 12 makes use of well known biometric data capturing systems to capture biometric data items corresponding to users.
In accordance with the present disclosure, the system 100 further includes a repository denoted by the reference numeral 14. The repository 14 temporarily stores biometric data item(s) and demographic data item(s) captured by the capturing module 12. The repository 14 is configured to temporarily store the biometric data item(s) and demographic data item(s) and permanently erase the captured biometric and demographic data item(s) soon after they are utilized for designated purpose(s).
In accordance with- the present disclosure, the system 100 further includes a first encryptor denoted by the reference numeral 16 which encrypts the biometric data item(s) and demographic data item(s) captured by the capturing module 12. The first encryptor 16 makes use of standard

encryption techniques including but not restricted to salting techniques, noninvertible transformation and biometric cryptosystems for the purpose of encrypting the biometric data item(s) captured by the capturing module 12. Similarly the first encryptor 16 makes use of standard encryption techniques including but not restricted to RSA algorithm, SHA-1 (Secure Hash Algorithm-1), diffie-hellman algorithm and the like for the purpose of encrypting the demographic data item(s) captured by the capturing module 12.

The term * second user' in this specification relates to any authenticating body which makes use of biometric data item(s) and demographic data item(s) to identify and authenticate individual users. In accordance with the present disclosure the term second user is typically used to indicate authenticating bodies which identify and authenticate users based on their biometric and demographic traits. In accordance with the present disclosure, the user interface 18 displays to the second user a list or a menu displaying types of demographic and biometric data items available for selection. The second user is provided with the facility of selecting the types of biometric and demographic data items required to be retrieved. Subsequent to the second user selecting the necessary types of biometric and demographic data items, the selected types of biometric and demographic data items will be downloaded from the repository 14 and compiled into an integrated data file.
In accordance with the present disclosure, for every user whose biometric data items and demographic data items are stored in the repository 14, the second user can choose to retrieve different sets of biometric and demographic data items. For example, the second user might intend to retrieve only finger prints and palm prints corresponding to a first user. In such a case the second user can select only 'finger prints' and 'palm prints' from the displayed types of biometric and demographic data items. Accordingly, only finger prints and palm prints corresponding to the first user will be retrieved from the repository 14. Subsequently the second user might intend to retrieve only palm prints and educational qualifications corresponding to a third user. In such a case the second user can select only corresponding palm prints and educational qualifications to be retrieved from the repository 14.

In accordance with the present disclosure, the system 100 further includes a selector denoted by the reference numeral 20. The selector 20 cooperates with the user interface 18 and the repository 14. The selector 20 is configured to select from the repository 14, the biometric and demographic data items selected by the second user. The demographic and/or biometric data items selected by the selector 20 are transmitted to a linked denoted by the reference numeral 22. The linker 22 controllably interlinks the biometric and/or demographic data items selected by the selector 20. Subsequent to interlinking the biometric and/or demographic data items corresponding to the user, the linker 22 creates a unique identifier corresponding to interlinked biometric and/or demographic data items so that they can be easily identified and retrieved. The interlinked biometric and demographic data items are also temporarily stored in the repository 14.
In accordance with the present disclosure, demographic and/or biometric data items controllably interlinked by the linker 22 are transmitted onto an integrator 24. The integrator 24 is configured to controllably integrate the interlinked biometric and demographic data items into a solitary data file. By doing so, the integrator 24 creates an integrated profile which comprises interlinked biometric and/or demographic data items corresponding to a particular user. The integrator 24 includes a second encryptor denoted by the reference numeral 24A. The second encryptor 24A is configured to encrypt the integrated profile created by the integrator 24.
