, Description:
PREAMBLE TO THE DESCRIPTION:
[0001] The following specification particularly describes the invention and the manner in which it is to be performed:

DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
Technical field of the invention
[0002] The present invention provides an ergonomically friendly system for adjusting the center console of a vehicle to improve the accessibility of the center console for the user(s).
Background of the invention
[0003] In the present generation vehicles, the center console comprising the console controls is fixed at the middle position in the vehicle cabin. This permanent fixture of the center console causes accessibility issues to the user(s) while maneuvering the vehicle steering from one side to the other. Further, the adjustable mechanism provided for the vehicle seats enables user(s) to move forward or backward as per the user(s)’s comfort and requirement. However, the stationary position of the center console results in ergonomical issues for the user(s) who are movably seated on the adjustable seats.
[0004] The Patent Application number US10150421B1 discloses a sliding console that includes a stationary support, a moving console body, and a connecting device connecting two longitudinal guideways each having a rail and a slide. The sliding connecting device has two moving supports transversely separated from one another and at least two reinforcements separate from one another and separate from the moving supports. The reinforcements are spaced longitudinally apart from one another and fasten the moving supports to one another. The console body is fastened to the reinforcements, with each rail being fastened to one of the moving supports, and the slides being fastened to the stationary support.
[0005] Hence, there exists a need for an adjustable mechanism to improve the user’s access to the center console of a vehicle.
Summary of the invention:
[0006] The present invention provides a system for adjusting the center console of a vehicle, wherein the system comprises at least one x-axis sliding unit for sliding the top portion of the center console along the x-axis and at least one y-axis sliding unit for sliding the bottom portion of the center console along the y-axis. Further, the system also comprises a swivel hinge for securing a display unit to the top portion of the center console, wherein the swivel hinge allows the display unit to swivel within a pre-defined angular threshold. The top portion and bottom portion of the center console are adjustably secured to the x-axis sliding unit and y-axis sliding unit respectively, through a locking mechanism.
[0007] The present invention provides an ergonomically friendly solution to the drawbacks cited in the prior art by enabling the user(s) to adjust the center console depending on the seating position to ensure that all the console controls are entirely accessible to the user(s). The adjustable mechanism provided in the present invention is not limited to utility purposes, but also contributes by improving the cabin aesthetics of the vehicle(s).
Brief description of the drawings:
[0008] The foregoing and other features of embodiments will become more apparent from the following detailed description of embodiments when read in conjunction with the accompanying drawings. In the drawings, like reference numerals refer to like elements.
[0009] FIG 1a illustrates a perspective view of the system with an x-axis sliding unit, y-axis sliding unit and swivel hinge for adjusting the center console of a vehicle.

Detailed description of the invention:
[0010] Reference will now be made in detail to the description of the present subject matter, one or more examples of which are shown in figures. Each example is provided to explain the subject matter and not a limitation. Various changes and modifications obvious to one skilled in the art to which the invention pertains are deemed to be within the spirit, scope and contemplation of the invention.
[0011] The present invention provides a system for adjusting the center console of a vehicle, wherein the system comprises at least one x-axis sliding unit for sliding the top portion of the center console along the x-axis and at least one y-axis sliding unit for sliding the bottom portion of the center console along the y-axis. Further, the system also comprises a swivel hinge for securing a display unit to the top portion of the center console, wherein the swivel hinge allows the display unit to swivel within a pre-defined angular threshold. The top portion and bottom portion of the center console are adjustably secured to the x-axis sliding unit and y-axis sliding unit respectively through a locking mechanism.
[0012] FIG 1a illustrates a perspective view of the system for adjusting the center console of a vehicle. The center console in system (100) is divided into two portions i.e. top portion and bottom portion, wherein the top portion of the center console houses components such as pre-defined set of vehicle attachments, buttons, electronic park brakes, display unit and so on and the bottom portion of the center console houses all the electrical wires which connect the Electronic Control Unit (ECU) to the center console and rear console.
[0013] The system (100) comprises at least one x-axis sliding unit (101) for sliding the top portion of the center console along the x-axis and at least one y-axis sliding unit (102) for sliding the bottom portion of the center console along the y-axis. Further, the system (100) also comprises a swivel hinge (103) for securing the display unit to the top portion of the center console, wherein the swivel hinge (103) allows the display unit to swivel within a pre-defined angular threshold. Therefore, the system (100) facilitates movement along the x-axis, y-axis and z-axis thereby achieving three degrees of motion.
[0014] According to one or more embodiments of the present invention, the position of the top portion of the center console is adjusted by sliding it over the x-axis sliding unit along the x-axis, wherein the position of the top portion of the center console is adjustably secured to the x-axis sliding unit (101) through a locking mechanism which enables the user(s) to move the top portion of the center console according to the requirement.
[0015] According to one or more embodiments of the present invention, the position of the bottom portion of the center console is adjusted by sliding it over the y-axis sliding unit along the y-axis, wherein the position of the bottom portion of the center console is adjustably secured to the y-axis sliding unit (101) through a locking mechanism which enables the user(s) to move the bottom portion of the center console according to the requirement.
[0016] The present invention provides an ergonomically friendly solution to the drawbacks cited in the prior arts by enabling the user(s) to adjust the center console depending on the seating position to ensure that all the console controls are entirely accessible to the user(s). The adjustable mechanism provided in the present invention is not limited to utility purposes, but also contributes by improving the cabin aesthetics of the vehicle(s).
[0017] While at least one exemplary embodiment has been presented in the foregoing detailed description, it should be appreciated that a vast number of variations exist.
