Specification

FIELD OF INVENTION
This invention relates to a system for generation of electricity using a sugar mill during off season.
PRIOR ART
It is known that, the boiler and turbine of a sugar mill work only during the sugar season and remain idle during off sugar season, which lasts for 6-8 months. The sugar mill comprises a boiler connected with a dumping grate furnance for burning only bagasse as a fuel during the sugar season. The efficiency of the dumping grate furnance is 68-70%.
It is also known to have other power plants for generation of electricity. However, the same are associated with distinct disadvantages of electricity loss during transmission, requirement of huge land and financial investment for operation and setup of the plant.
OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION
An object of the present invention is to propose a system for production of electricity using sugar mill during off season which saves fuel as the boiler works with 80-82% of efficiency during off sugar season as against 68-70% in the sugar season.
Another object of the present invention is to propose a. system for production of electricity using sugar mill during off season which causes generation of power at low cost due to less space requirement and minimum investment for setting up the power plant.
Further object of the present invention is to propose a system for production of electricity using sugar mill during off season which involves minimum loss of power during transmission as the produced power can be utilized locally.
Still another object of the present invention is to propose a system for production of electricity using sugar mill during off season which can be converted back to a dumping grate furnance and vice-versa. This conversion in both ways takes only 3-4 days.
Yet another object of the present invention is to propose a system for production of electricity using sugar mill during off season which is economical as most of the equipments of the system are already available with a sugar mill.
STATEMENT OF INVENTION
According to this invention there is provided a system for generation of electricity using a sugar mill during off season comprising of a plurality of fluidized bed chambers mounted on a grate furnace and fuel feeders for feeding a fuel into the chambers wherein a low pressure turbine is
t
connected to the system for generation of electricity.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE ACCOMPANYING DRAWINGS
i
Further objects and advantages of this invention will be more apparent from the ensuing description when read in conjunction with the accompanying drawings and wherein:
Fig. 1 shows: schematic diagram for dumping grate cum F. B. C. furnace.
Fig. 2 shows: arrangement for making sugar mill a power plant during off season.
DETAIL DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION WITH REFERENCE TO THE ACCOMPANYING DRAWINGS;
Reference may be made to fig. 1 & 2 wherein a system for generation of electricity using a sugar mill during off season comprises a plurality of fluidized bed chambers (1) using agricultural waste or residue as a fuel mounted on a grate furnace (2), which remains in open position to admit air into the chambers wherein fuel feeders (3) is provided for feeding of fuel into the chambers and a lower pressure turbine (6) is connected to the system.
A plurality of small portable and removal fluidized bed chambers (1) are mounted on the dumping grate or travelling grate or pulsating grate furnace (2). These chambers act as furnance in which Rice husk, wood chips, lower grade coal, saw dust and mixture of rice husk and bassage may be used as
fuel. The grate furnance (2) remains in open position so as to admit air from bottom hoppers into the chambers for combustion of fluidized bed furnace. Further, the system is disposed with a booster fan (4) connected in series to the FD fan (5) of the boiler as higher air pressure is required for fluidization. A fuel feeder (3) is provided for feeding of fuel into the chambers, which is in parallel to the bagasse feeder since the bagasse feeder cannot handle a fuel other than bagasse. However, a part of the bagasse ash hopper (3) is used for accumulation of ash discharged from
i
the fludized furnace. A low pressure turbine (6) is connected to the system for generation of electricity. Such a system is dismantled during the sugar season.
It is to be noted that the present invention is susceptible to modifications, adaptations and changes by those skilled in the art. Such variant embodiments employing the concepts and features of this invention are intended to be within the scope of the present invention, which is further set forth under the following claims:-

WE CLAIM;
1. A system for generation of electricity using a sugar mill during
off season comprising of a plurality of fluidized bed chambers
mounted on a grate furnace and a fuel feeder for feeding of fuel
into the chambers wherein a low pressure turbine is connected
to the system for generation of electricity.
2. A system as claimed in claim 1, wherein the bed chambers use
agricultural waste or residue as a fuel.
3. A system as claimed in claim 1 or 2, wherein the grate furnace
remains in open position so as to admit air into the chambers.
4. A system as claimed in any of the preceding claims, wherein the
furnace may be for example dumping grate, travelling grate and
pulsating grate furnace.
5. A system as claimed in any of the preceding claims, wherein the
fuel comprises Rice husk, wood chips, lower grade coal, saw
dust and mixture of rice husk and bagasse.
6. A system as claimed in any of the preceding claims, comprising
of a booster fan in series to FD fan of the sugar mill.
7. A system as claimed in any of the preceding claims comprising
of ash hopper for accumulation of ash discharged from the
furnace.
8. A system for generation of electricity using a sugar mill during
off season substantially as herein described with reference to
the accompanying drawings.
