Specification

FIELD OF INVENTION
The present invention relates to a system for opening and closing
of spool stopper provided in the bucket disposed for collection of spool in a cold
rolling mills.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
In a cold rolling mills, the spool is used in the inner ID of cold rolled
coils of thickness below 0.4 mm to avoid collapsing of coil. The spools are
collected in a bucket. With a spool charging mechanism the spools are charged
into a mandrel.
Filling up of spool in the spool bucket is a regular job. Before, start
of the job, the spool stopper provided in the bucket is closed manually. The
spool is placed in the bucket with the help of crane. After the spool is filled up in
bucket, the stopper is opened. Opening and closing of stopper is a manual
operation. This opening and closing operations of rack door actuated by a lever
mechanism where a lever is to be pressed up and down by hand. There is always
a high risk of injury during the operation of rack door lever. Few near miss is

reported in the past. It could be a serious injury. Also operating the lever by
hand is not economically sound. People always complaint of back pain.
Hence, there exists a need of finding a system which can eliminate
the disadvantages of the prior art, make the operations smooth and free of any
probability of injury to the people involved in the operation.
OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION
Therefore, it is an object of the invention is to propose a system for opening and
closing of spool stopper provided in the bucket disposed for collection of spool in
a cold rolling mills which is capable of eliminating the disadvantages of prior arts.
Another object of the invention is to propose a system for opening and closing of
spool stopper provided in the bucket disposed for collection of spool in a cold
rolling mills which is able to make the operations free from any possibility of
injury.
A further object of the invention is to propose a system for opening and closing
of spool stopper provided in the bucket disposed for collection of spool in a cold

rolling mills which is capable of eliminating completely the use of any manual
effort.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE ACCOMPANYING DRAWINGS
Fig.l - Shows a photography of spool charger and spool on the machine.
Fig.2 - Shows a sequence of operations undertaken for opening and
closing of spool bucket door manually in the prior art.
Fig.3 - Shows the system adapted using a pneumatic cylinder designed for
the invention.
Fig.4 - Shows a photograph of the pneumatic cylinder mechanism fixed in
the spool bucket according to the invention.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF A PREFERRED EMBODIMENT OF THE
INVENTION
As shown in Fig.2, in the prior art, the spool stopper/door (1) is
opened by the help of a handle (2) when spool (3) are placed in the bucket with
the help of crane. During the loading of spool (3) the door (l) is kept closed.

After the spool bucket is filled up with spool, the door (1) is opened manually.
Operating the handle and opening the door is a very hazardous operation and
prone to injury.
In the present invention the system for opening and closing of
spool stopper provided in the bucket disposed for collection of spool in a cold
rolling mills comprising a newly designed pneumatic cylinder.
A pneumatic cylinder (5) is designed and fixed on the spool bucket
(6) to operate the spool rack arm or lever (2) for closing and opening of the
spool bucket door (l). The pneumatic cylinder (5) is designed and made based
on few considerations such as weight of the spool rack arm, mounting method,
swing of the lever required for opening and closing of the spool bucket door,
stroke length of the cylinder (5) which should be greater than the O.D. of spool.
In actual operation, the piston of the cylinder (5) while moving in
the cylinder (5) operates the lever (2) for closing and opening of the spool
bucket door (1) as the piston is connected to the lever (2) for translating the
motion of the piston to the motion of the lever (2). This pneumatic cylinder
mechanism (M) makes the hazardous old manually operated method very
smooth eliminating the risk of injury during the operation.

WE CLAIM
1. A system for opening and closing of spool stopper provided in the bucket
disposed for collection of spool in a cold rolling mills, the said system
comprising;
a lever (2) for moving the spool door for opening and closing;
Characterized in that,
a pneumatic cylinder (5) fixed on the spool bucket (6) for operating
the spool rack arm or lever (2); wherein a piston of the said cylinder is
connected to the lever (2) for translating the motion of the piston to the
motion of the lever (2) when the piston moving in the cylinder operates the
lever (2) for closing and opening of spool bucket door (1) wherein the stroke
length of the cylinder is made greater than outer diameter of spool.
