DESC:Title of The Invention
Assessment of behavioral activities in experimental animals in elevated plus maze animal module with vision-based edge device
Field of the Invention
This invention relates to animals in elevated plus maze animal module with vision-based edge device.
Background of the Invention
201611044522: The present invention describes how test mice using the light plus maze apparatus. This is a commonly used paradigm to test primarily for anxiety-like behavior. This procedure applies to all personnel who will test mice in the light plus maze apparatus within the Stem Cells Engraftment and in vivo Analysis Core. The testing arena is shaped like a “+” Two arms (opposite each other) are covered with walls of glass with small layers of electric bulbs. Two other arms have tall walls that enclose the arms. All testing occurs during the dark-phase (the active phase) of the light cycle. Testing is conducted under dim white-light illumination (about 150 lux). The subjects are moved from their housing room to the testing room and allowed to acclimate for at least 10min before testing. After testing is completed, the mice are immediately returned to the housing room. The test is recorded using digital video cameras.
Research Gap: Incorporation of vision based with digital display, helps to minimize the time consumption.
202011007784: The present invention relates to Modified Elevated Plus Maze (MEPM) apparatus for the better assessment of behavioral alterations and neuronal activity in animal experimentation. Elevated plus maze (EPM) is used widely across the world for the assessment of anxiety, learning, memory, locomotor activity, fear etc. in the laboratory animals. EPM test takes the advantage of the natural tendency of mice to explore the novel environments. However despite of the widespread use as a preclinical model, the conventional design of the EPM suffers from some major drawbacks such as presence of the central region, confusion about the placement of the animal on maze, confusion in the rodents mind, overactive closed arms because rodents often see closed arm, chances of getting stereotypic movement because of the movement in same arms, struggling of the animals to due to small width of the open arm and closed arm, animal struggle to maintain the posture, sometimes the drug which shows activity in any behavioral model the anxiety do not show activity in the EPM test or vice versa, etc. Therefore, to solve these problems modified elevated plus maze (MEPM) is designed. The key features of MEPM include: no central region, animal can be placed directly on any of the arm without conflict, easy movement due to increase width of open and closed arm, lesser stereotypic movements in the same arm (closed-closed) because each open arm faces one closed arm or vice-versa, both open and closed arm is equally active for the animals and another. MEPM thus offers the better assessment of animal behavior and neuronal activity.
Research Gap: Counting of the frequencies of animals in different arms will be easily calculated with the help of device.
201711039902: The long height plus-maze apparatus (LPM) is an apparatus which will be used to evaluate drugs which are used in treatment of anxiety, this is a rodent model of anxiety, and will be representative of those tests that are based upon the study of spontaneous behavior patterns. The model will be based on the test animal’s aversion to open spaces. In the LPM, this anxiety will be expressed by the animal spending more time in the enclosed arms. The long height plus maze will be used for behavioral assay for rodents and will useful to assess the anti-anxiety effects of pharmacological agents and to define brain regions and mechanisms underlying anxiety-related behavior. Briefly, rats or mice will be placed at the junction of the four arms of the maze, facing an open arm, and entries/duration in each arm are recorded by the observer simultaneously for 5 min. Other ethological parameters (i.e., rears, head dips and stretched-attend postures) will also be observed. An increase in open arm activity (duration and/or entries) will reflects anti-anxiety behavior.
Research Gap: Vision based edge device in elevated plus maze apparatus will be more beneficial over long height plus maze apparatus.
201941026211: The maze experiments are essential to test learning and memory in the field of neurophysiology, neuropharmacology, psychology etc. There are many well established mazes are available to assess learning behavior of animals, but every maze has its own limitations which can give compromised and biased result. The aim of present invention is to come up with an assessment tool which has minimal or no limitations, economic, no stress on animal, with simple technique no technical support needed, user and animal friendly model to test spatial learning, memory and associated learning memory in a same maze. The present maze designed is like a street, with similar size and shaped houses and some visual cues in and around the street. Maze measured about four and half feet length and three and half feet width with surrounding compound wall. Inside the compound twenty houses in five rows with four straight roads five cross roads between houses. The animals required to find baited house by visual cues during testing the spatial learning and by conditioned stimulus during testing the associated learning. Usually, each maze device is confined to specific memory like Morri’s water maze, radial arm maze, Y maze, T maze, Barnes maze etc. are for spatial learning memory, passive avoidance and step-down, step- to avoidance, step - through avoidance models, shuttle box is to assess associated learning and memory but with the present invention we can test both spatial learning and associated learning and memory.
Research Gap: Placement of vision-based edge device in Elevated Plus Maze animal module will be beneficial to reduce the economic expenditure that will be used in designing like street, with similar size and shaped house to check activity.
None of the prior art indicate above either alone or in combination with one another disclose what the present invention has disclosed. Present invention is incorporation of sensors with display in elevated plus maze apparatus helps in calculating the number of entries and rotation time of animal in specific plateform. Moreover, this invention will to overcome the maximal usage of time with respect to advanced version of elevated plus maze equipped with vision-based edge device.
