PREAMBLE TO THE DESCRIPTION
The following specification particularly describes the invention and the manner in which it is to be performed.
FIELD OF THE INVENTION
This invention relates to a system to prevent overloading of dump trucks. Particularly this invention relates to a system to prevent overloading of trucks and more specifically dump trucks.
STATE OF THE ART IN THE FIELD
Dump trucks are designed for transporting construction materials, excavated earth and rocks material. Each dump truck is designed for particular "payload" and hoist system is used for lifting the dump body to unload the material. This is the standard feature available to dump trucks. Presently overload indication is available on the dash board. Although safety measures are provided with such trucks, but the operator some time does not follow the safety measures.
There are disadvantages associated with the conventional trucks / dump trucks. One of the disadvantages is that the warning signal is ignored by the operator and operates the overloaded truck that causes catastrophic failure of power line aggregates.
Another disadvantage associated with the conventional trucks / dump trucks is that operating a dump truck with an extraordinary payload causes early wear on brakes, tires and of course more fuel consumption etc.
Yet another disadvantage associated with the conventional trucks / dump trucks is that overloading shortens the life of components such as drive system, etc. of the trucks / dump trucks.
Still another disadvantage associated with the conventional trucks / dump trucks is that there is an increase in maintenance cost and repairs.
A further disadvantage associated with the conventional trucks / dump trucks is that the body of the truck is lifted in overload condition.
OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION
Therefore, an object of the present invention is to provide a system to prevent overloading of the trucks, which obviates the disadvantages associated with conventional trucks / dump trucks.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a system to prevent overloading by monitoring payload during loading operation of the dump trucks
Yet another object of the present invention is to provide a system to prevent overloading which is capable to monitor the load and alert the operator through the display in case of overload.
Still another object of the present invention is to provide a system to prevent overloading which does not allow lifting of the dump body when it is overloaded and therefore excess material is unloaded, if needed.
A further object of the present invention is to provide a system to prevent overloading and enhancing performance and utilization of the truck by protecting the truck from premature failure and thus reducing down time.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a system to prevent overloading which is independent of commands given by the operator during lifting.
Yet another object of the present invention is to provide a system to prevent overloading which provides safety to components and the maintenance cost is reduced.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
According to this invention there is provided a system to prevent overloading of a dump truck comprising a payload monitoring system, adapted to be connected to a hoist system, to prevent operation of hoist system in case dumper body of the dumper truck is overloaded.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
A system to prevent overloading of dump trucks, according to a preferred embodiment, is herein described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein;
Fig. 1, illustrates block diagram of the system of the present invention,
Fig. 2, illustrates block diagram payload monitoring system
Fig. 3, illustrates block diagram hoist system,
Fig. 4, illustrates circuit diagram of the master control,
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
A system to prevent overloading of dump trucks is herein described with numerous specific details so as to provide a complete understanding of the invention. However these specific details are exemplary details and should not be treated as the limitation to the scope of the invention. Throughout this specification the word “comprise” or variations such as “comprises or comprising”, will be understood to imply the inclusions of a stated element, integer or step, or group of elements, integers or steps, but not the exclusions of any other element, integer or step or group of elements, integers or steps.
Referring to the drawings, figures 1, a block diagram of a system to prevent overloading of dump trucks is shown. The system comprises a payload monitoring system (PLMS) (1), adapted to be connected to a hoist system (2) to prevent operation of hoist system (2) in case dumper body (not shown) of the dumper truck is overloaded. The hoist system (2) is provided in the operator’s cabin such that to be operated by the operator / driver in order to control the hoist operations, for example, raising, lowering, floating and holding dumper body.
The PLMS (1), according to an embodiment and as shown in figure 2, comprises a pressure detection meter (3) provided with each of the hydraulic suspension (4) such that to detect the pressure developed in each hydraulic suspension (4) and measure the load therein. The load present in each of the hydraulic suspension (4) of a dumper body is converted into digital format by means of a Master Control Unit (5) so as to calculate the total payload and inform the system about the load it in order to prevent further loading of the dumper body. Plurality of lamps (not shown), for example, LED lamps of different colours like green, amber and red colour lamps, adapted to be fixed with the dashboard provided in the driver’s cabin are provided to give indication about the load present in the dumper body. The RED lamp is glowed when the dumper body is overloaded.
The hoist system (2), as shown in figure 3 comprises a plurality of control switches (6), for example, three switches for lowering/floating, holding and raising action and are provided for actuating hoist solenoids valves (7) provided to control hoist operation, for example, lowering, floating, holding and raising operation of the dumper body. The solenoids valves (7) comprises, for example, three solenoids valves (7) such that to direct the compressed air from the tank (not shown) to the hoist control valve (7) required for lowering, floating, holding and raising of the dumper body as and when required.
Referring to figure – 4, circuit diagram of the master control is shown. The circuit comprises a relay switch (8) / K1, adapted to be energized when the control switch, for example raise switch) (6) is pressed by the operator in order to raise the dumper body in the upward direction, and thus to connect switch (6) with respective solenoid valve / switch (7). One point of the coil of the relay switch (8) is connect to power supply of, for example +24v, and other point of the coil of the relay switch (8) is connect to PLMS controller (1) provided for generating signals in respect of the over load. When PLMS controller (1) detects overload in the dumper body, it would generate signals in respect of the over load and drive the relay to disconnect connection of the relay switch (8) / K1 with the solenoid valve / switch (7) and therefore body of the dumper is not raised. However, in the normal condition and when dumper body is loaded with rated payload, the PLMS controller [master control unit (5)] does not generate any signal relating to over the loading of the body of the dumper and connection between the a relay switch (8) / K1 and solenoid valve / switch (7) remains intact and thus facilitate connectivity between raise switch) (6) and raise solenoid valve / switch (7) and therefore dumper body is raised.
Therefore, during operation of the system and when raise switch, for example, is pressed the relay switched is energized and gets connected with the solenoid valve / switch. One end of the coil of the relay is connecting to power supply and the other end of the coil is connect to PLMS controller. When PLMS controller detects overloading in the dumper body, signal are generated and the relay disconnect the connection between raise switch and raise solenoid valve is cut off and the dumper body is not raised. However, when dumper body is loaded with rated payload PLMS controller does not generate any overload signals and the relay keep the connection between the raise switch and the raise solenoid switch and the body is thus raised.
Certain features of the invention have been described with reference to the exemplary embodiments. However, the description is not intended to be construed in a limiting sense. Various modifications of the exemplary embodiments as well as other embodiments of the invention, which are apparent to the persons skilled in the art to which the invention pertains, are deemed to lie within the spirit and scope of the invention.
