The following specification particularly describes the invention and the manner in
which it is to be performed.
FIELD OF INVENTION
[001] The present invention relates to a tensioner and more particularly it relates to a tensioner having solid pin rivet assembly for increasing chain load carrying capacity.
BACKGROUND OF INVENTION
[002] A tensioner is an element of an automobile engine, that works to maintain constant tension of a timing chain or timing belt used for an engine of an automobile by urging the timing chain or belt to be pushed with a predefined force if the chain or timing belt tends to slack or loosen.
[003] A conventional screw type spiral tensioner commonly consists of a body, a screw, a nut. a spring, a retainer, a hollow dowel pin, a stopper, a cap and a circlip. The tensioner body has cylindrical portions extending either on both sides or on one side from the flange. A screw, having a slit formed in its head. Said screw is threadedly engaged with the nut. The spiral spring disposed inside the body. A stopper is used to provide rotary motion to the screw which forces the spring to rotate as well and thereby elastic energy is stored into the spring. Upon removal of the stopper from the screw, the stored elastic energy in the spring rotates the screw. Since the screw is threadedly engaged with the nut, the rotary motion of the screw is converted into linear motion of the nut as the retainer prevents the nut from rotating.
[004] The cap is mounted on the top of the nut, whereas the hollow dowel pin being employed for holding the cap at top of the nut; which is having lower mechanical strength. However, the drawback associated with aforesaid conventional tensioner is that the cap tends to receive impact load and vibration from the chain. These loads and vibrations are hardly bearable by the hollow dowel
pin, due to which it breaks during vehicle operations. Hence, the cap tends to be dropped down into the engine which affects the engine's life and performance.
[005] Therefore, it is desperately needed to provide a tensioner having a mechanism which prevents the dropdown of cap from the top of the nut due to vibrational effect into the engine, and thereby effectually solves the problems of aforesaid conventional tensioner.
OBJECT OF INVENTION
[006] The main object of the present invention is to provide a tensioner having solid pin rivet assembly for increased chain load carrying capacity.
[007] Another object of the present invention is to provide the tensioner having solid pin rivet assembly which reduces chances of dropdown of the cap into the
engine.
[008] Yet another object of the present invention is to provide the tensioner having solid pin rivet assembly for increased chain load carrying capacity which efficiently overcomes drawbacks and shortcomings of conventional prior art tensioner.
SUMMARY OF INVENTION
[009] A tensioner (100) having solid pin rivet assembly includes a body (1) having an opening (la) being mounted in proximity of transmission media, a nut (2) that is configured to slidably project out from the opening (la) of the body (1), a screw (3) adapted to guide the nut (2) that is configured to rotate and deliver axial motion to nut (2), a spring (4) that is disposed between the body (1) and the screw (3) to urge the nut (2) in a direction to project out from the opening (1 a), a retainer (5) provided with a locking means, a circlip (8) configured to hold the retainer (5) onto the main body (1), a stopper (10) adapted to removably insert in the slit formed in the screw
(3) to lock the screw (3) in an inoperative condition and a solid pin rivet assembly (11) that includes a rivet pin (11a) and a cap (lib) mounted on a first end (2a) of the nut (2), wherein said rivet pin (1 la) is configured to fasten the cap (1 lb) on the first end (2a) of the nut (2). In the preferred embodiment said rivet pin (11a) is made of metal. Said solid pin rivet assembly (11) is configured to absorb backload of chain and to mitigate chances of dropdown of the cap (1 lb) into engine.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DRAWINGS

[014] Now referring to Fig. 1, a tensioner (100) with solid pin rivet assembly according to present invention includes a body (1), a nut (2) having a first end (2a), a screw (3), a spring (4) with proximal end (4a) and distal end (4b), a retainer (5), a washer (6), a spacer (7), a circlip (8), a plug (9), a stopper (10), a solid pin rivet assembly (11), a rivet pin (1 la) and a cap (1 lb).
[015] The body (1) having cylindrical shape with an opening (la) at the top end, a vertical slot (lb) along a periphery and a groove (lc) at the bottom. The screw (3) having a slit (3a) and the nut (2) are engagably disposed into the main body (1) in coaxial manner. The spring (4) having a proximal end (4a) being engaged into the slit (3a) (not shown in Fig.) of the screw (3) and the distal end (4b) of the spring (4) being engaged into the vertical slot (lb) of the body (1). The retainer (5) mounted onto the body (1), whereas the washer (6) being placed above an end face of the screw (3). The spacer (7) and the circlip (8) configured to hold the retainer (5) onto the main body (1). A plug (9) is fitted inside the groove (lc) of the body (1). The stopper (10) adapted to removably insert in the slit (3a) formed in the screw (3) to lock the screw (3) in an inoperative condition.
[016] The present invention intended to overcome the drawback of conventional tensioner by reducing the chances of dropdown of the cap into the engine due to breakage of the hollow dowel pin.
