Abstract: The present invention relates to a three -wheeled vehicle (10) comprising a chassis, floor pane! (24) rigidly secured to the chassis (100), a driver compartment (D) and a passenger compartment (P) supported on said chassis (100); at least one passenger seat assembly (19), (20) and at least one pillar structure (30) projecting upwardly from opposite sides of said floor panel (24). The three-wheeled vehicle (10) further comprises a pair of vertical members (101) projecting laterally from opposite sides of said floor panel (24) wherein a front member (102) extends transversely between said pair of vertical members (101) and being secured to said floor panel (24); and wherein said pair of vertical members (101), said front " member (102) and"at least a portion of said partition wall (29) being attached to said floor panel forms a hollow interior (103) for securing at least one battery box (105) therein. TECHNICAL FIELD
[0001] The present subject matter relates to a three-wheeled vehicle. More
particularly, the present invention relates to a modified chassis supporting at least one passenger seat assembly for the three-wheeled vehicle.
BACKGROUND
[0002] In many of the developing & under developed countries, a motor
vehicle particularly a three-wheeled automotive vehicle is a significant mode of public transportation. It is vastly used as a point to point mode of transport in rural and urban areas. Though such vehicle is designed to bear the load of four people, generally it is overloaded and is operated intermittently for 12 to 14 hours a day to enable the driver to maximize his earnings. However, some of them lack safety reliability and are uneconomical.
[0003] An existing three-wheeled vehicle includes a driver compartment in a
front side having a front seat for a driver, and a passenger compartment at a rear side with a rear seat assembly for passengers, and is also provided with a seat back portion for accommodating luggage.
[0004] In another known passenger carrying vehicle, an additional seat
assembly is added to increase the passenger capacity of said vehicle. However, such vehicle chassis is supported by four wheels, two front and two rear wheels and provides rigidity to the vehicle and thus prevents the vehicle body from any side impact.
[0005] The three-wheeled vehicle suffers from disadvantage of having a
vehicle chassis being supported on three wheels. The vehicle with one front wheel and two rear wheel do not have capacity to accommodate more than one passenger seat assembly. However, such vehicles if provided with more than one passenger rear seat can cause sagging, bending and deformation of vehicle body from any impact applied sideways to the vehicle and hence may also result in lack of protection to the passengers. Thus, the existing chassis for the three-wheeled
vehicle heeds to be extended through addition of one or more cross members along at least one longitudinal members of a frame structure of the vehicle.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
[0006] With the above objectives in view, the prevent invention discloses a
three wheeled vehicle with a modified chassis supporting at least one passenger seat assembly. More specifically, said present subject provides a three-wheeled vehicle body structure having an increased stiffness and rigidity and an increased safety to the passengers.
[0007] It is an object of the present invention to provide the three-wheeled
vehicle with a pair of vertical supports projecting laterally from opposite sides of said floor panel and being rigidly attached to at least one pillar structure of said vehicle and also said three-wheeled vehicle comprises of a front member extending transversely between said at least one pillar structure and being secured to said floor panel. Said pair of vertical members and said front member provides stiffness to a body panel of said vehicle and prevents from sagging and bending.
[0008] It is another object of the invention to provide a three-wheeled
vehicle with at least one battery box being secured on a retractable tray through a locking and a sliding arrangement.
[0009] It is yet another object of the present invention to provide a
three-wheeled vehicle wherein said pair of said vertical members, front member attached to said floor panel to form a hollow interior for securing said at least one battery box. However, where a vehicle is powered by an internal combustion engine, the hollow interior can be used to secure luggage.
[00010] It is still another object of the present invention to provide a yehicle comprising of at least one passenger seat assembly including a first seat assembly and a second passenger seat assembly, and wherein said first passenger seat is disposed opposite to said second passenger seat assembly in said a passenger compartment of said vehicle and further said first passenger seat assembly of said
at least one passenger seat assembly is disposed on an open top portion of said hollow interior.
[00011] As per first and second embodiments of the present invention said three wheeled vehicle comprises of said pair of vertical members projecting laterally from opposite sides of said floor panel and being rigidly attached to said at least one pillar structure, said front member being secured transversely between said first pillar structure and said second pillar structure. Said pair of vertical members are connected by a front member being secured to said floor panel along a transverse direction of said vehicle and said pair of said side members and said front member are attached to said floor panel in a manner so as to form said hollow interior for securing a battery box or luggage therein and further said first passenger seat assembly of said at least one passenger seat assembly is disposed on an open top portion of said hollow interior. In a second embodiment of the present said pair of vertical members comprises of an opening member as a door panel allowing the pane! manually opened and said retractable tray to slide within the opening such that said at least one battery box can be accessed.
[00012] Further, the present invention also describes a three-wheeled vehicle with a drive provided at one side of the gear box, said drive motor and the gear box directly coupled to said pair of rear wheels.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
[00025] The present subject matter disclosed herein relates to at least one passenger seat assembly disposed in a passenger compartment of a three -wheeled More specifically, the present subject matter discloses a modified
semi-monocoque chassis structure for a three-wheeled vehicle with at least one passenger seat assembly and providing improved stiffness and rigidity to the vehicle body. .
[00026] According to the first and' second embodiments of the present invention, the three-wheeled vehicle comprises of a chassis having a modified semi-monocoque structure. Said semi-monocoque chassis is integrated with a tubular ladder like frame. Said tubular ladder like frame comprises of two or more longitudinally members and a plurality of frame cross-members structurally interconnecting said two or more longitudinal members such that said cross-members extend in opposite directions from said two or more longitudinal members. As per first and second preferred embodiments of the present invention, the three-wheeled vehicle includes two compartments, referred to as a driver compartment and a passenger compartment being supported on the chassis, a floor panel rigidly secured to chassis and extends along the longitudinal axis of said vehicle , a roof, at least one pillar structure including a first pillar structure and a-second pillar structure projecting upwardly from opposite sides of said * floor panel, a partition wall extending transversely between said first pillar structure and said second pillar structure and. separates said driver compartment from said passenger compartment. The passenger compartment comprises at least one passenger seat assembly- which includes a first seat assembly and a second seat assembly and are disposed therein.
[00027] According to the first and- second embodiments of the present invention, said three-wheeled vehicle comprises of a pair of vertical members projecting laterally from opposite sides of said floor panel and being rigidly attached to said at least one pillar structure and a front member extending transversely between said pair of vertical members and being secured to said floor panel a front member being secured to said floor panel along a transverse direction of said vehicle .Said pair of said side members, said front member and at least a portion of said partition wall, are attached to said floor panel in a manner so as to form a hollow interior for securing at least one battery box. Said pair of vertical members being rigidly attached to said floor panel and the front member extends transversely between said pair of vertical members of said vehicle thus providing strength and rigidity to the vehicle body-
[00029] The present subject matter discloses that a structure formed of said pair of vertical members and the front member along with the modified chassis provides protection for passenger, preventing the sagging of the vehicle by imparting improved rigidity to the vehicle body. As per the first and second embodiments of the present invention", said pair of vertical member acts as a protecting member and imparts' safety for the passengers and thus providing stiffness to said vehicle body hence overall adding strength to vehicle and preventing from side impact. According to the present invention, said pair of vertical member along with the modified chassis imparts increased stiffness and strength to the vehicle body and prevents trie sagging of the vehicle and provides an increased stiffness to the connection between the chassis and at least one pillar structure. Also with such arrangement of said vertical member with said at least one pillar structure prevents said at least one pillar structure from being deformed and, accordingly, keeps the interior of the vehicle safe when a great impact is . applied sideways to the vehicle body. As per first and second embodiment of the present invention,.structure formed by said at least one pillar structure and said pair of vertical support and the front member extending over the floor panel in the transverse direction of said vehicle, provides an increased stiffness to the vehicle body so as to increase the structural stiffness of the vehicle body against bending, sagging and twisting. Hence, as per the first and second embodiments of the present
invention, the vehicle in addition for accommodating more passengers also provides for accommodation or battery box or more luggages. Further, as per the first and second embodiments of the present invention, said three-wheeled vehicle also comprises a slot for charging at charging said at least one battery box is provided on at least one side of a rear panel of the said vehicle and positioned above a rear wheel of said vehicle.
[00030] Further as per the first and second embodiments of the present invention, said modified chassis, said at least one pillar structure, said pair of vertical member and the front member acts as reinforcing member and improves the vehicle rigidity against bending and sagging and further suppresses the damage of the vehicle body from any side impact.
[00031] Exemplary embodiments detailing features of the three-wheeled vehicle, in accordance with the present invention will be described hereunder. The embodiments described herein apply to an electric three-wheeled vehicle powered by a drive motor. However, the present invention is not restricted in its application and is also applicable to vehicles employing an internal combustion engine or either by an internal combustion engine or the drive motor selectively or by the drive motor alone.
[00032] The three wheeled automotive vehicle is mainly, but not solely, used as a passenger carrier. It is to be noted that "front" and "rear", and "left" and "right" wherever referred to in the ensuing description, refer to front and rear, and ■ left and right directions as seen in a state of being seated on a seat of the vehicle and looking, forward. Furthermore, a longitudinal axis refers to a front to rear axis relative to the vehicle, while a lateral axis refers generally to a side to side, or left to right axis relative to the vehicle. Various other features of the three-wheeled vehicle according to the present subject matter here will be discernible from the following further description thereof, set out hereunder.
[00033] Fig. 1 shows a schematic side perspective view of an exemplary three-wheeler (10). As per first preferred embodiment, three wheeled passenger carrier vehicle (10), referenced by the numeral (10), powered by a drive motor
(112). The vehicle can be used as a passenger carrier vehicle or a load carrier
vehicle. It has a front cowl (14) supporting a windscreen (12). The lower portion
of the front cow] (14) is connected to a front wheel (16) with a wheel cover (15)
disposed in between. A pair of handlebars (13) are present'behind the front cowl
(14) which is used to operate the said three-wheeled vehicle (10). The vehicle (l0)
is divided into two compartments along the line X-Y; a driver compartment (D)
having a driver's seat assembly (17) and a passenger compartment (P) having
atleast one passenger seat assembly (19), (20). As per the first preferred
embodiment of the present invention, said at least one passenger compartment (P)
includes a first seat assembly (19) and a second seat assembly (20). A rear cabin
(23) along with the passenger compartment (P) of the vehicle (10) is supported on
a pair of rear wheels (18), (21) located on either side of the longitudinal axis of
the vehicle (10). According to the first embodiment of the present invention, at . .
least one battery box (105) including a first battery box (105) and a second battery box (105) is disposed on said vehicle (10). Said first battery box (105) is disposed beneath said first passenger seat assembly (19) and said second battery box (105) disposed beneath said driver seat assembly (17).
[00034] Fig. 2. illustrates a perspective view of the three-wheeled vehicle (10) with said at least one passenger seat assembly (19), (20) including a first passenger seat assembly (19) and a second passenger seat assembly (20). As per first embodiment of the present invention, the three-wheeled vehicle (10) includes two compartments, referred to as a driver compartment (D) and a passenger compartment (P) being supported on the chassis (100) (shown in fig.4), a floor panel (24) rigidly secured to chassis (100) and extends along the longitudinal axis of said vehicle (10), a roof (11), said at least one pillar structure (30) including a first pillar structure (30) and a second pillar structure (30) projects upwardly from opposite sides of said floor panel (24), a partition wall (29) extends transversely between said first pillar structure (30) and said second pillar structure (30) and separates said driver compartment (D) from said passenger compartment (P).The passenger compartment (P) comprises of at least one passenger seat assembly (19), (20) which includes a first seat assembly (19) and a second seat
assembly (20) and are disposed therein. As per the first preferred embodiment of the present invention, the passenger compartment (P) of said three-wheeled vehicle (10) includes said at least one seat assembly (19), (20) including said first seat assembly (19) and said second seat assembly (20). Thus, with at least one passenger seat assembly (19), (20) and a modified chassis (100), the overall length, stiffness and the passenger carrying capacity of the vehicle (10) is increased. With respect to the first embodiment of the present invention a slot (25) for charging said at least one battery box (105) being provided on at least one side of a body panel (22) of the said vehicle (10), and positioned above a pair of rear wheels (18), (21) of said » vehicle (10).

(100) of the three-wheeled vehicle (10), in accordance with the first and second
I embodiments of the present subject matter. The chassis (100) for the three
wheeled vehicle (10) being integrally formed with a frame (not shown) having one or more longitudinal members and at least one cross members. The chassis (100) of the three-wheeled vehicle (10) includes two compartments. The driver compartment (D) including a head tube (not shown) that mounts a handle bar assembly (13) of the three-wheeled vehicle' (10), a main tube (not shown) connects the head tube (not shown) and the driver seat assembly (17). As per the first embodiment of the present invention, the chassis (100) further includes a passenger compartment (P) (shown in Fig.l) that includes at least one passenger seat assembly (19), (20) disposed therein. Further, according to one embodiment of the present invention, the chassis (100) for the three-wheeled vehicle (10) also includes a rear cabin (23). As per the first embodiment of the present invention, said pair of vertical members (101), said front member (102) and at least a portion . of said partition wall (29) attached to said floor panel (24) forms a hollow interior (103) for securing said at least one battery box (105) therein, and further said first passenger seat assembly (19) of said at least one passenger seat assembly (19), (20) being disposed on an open top portion (116) of said hollow interior (103).
[00037] Fig.5. shows a perspective view of three-wheeled vehicle (10) illustrating positioning of at least one battery box (105) on a retractable tray (106). Fig. 5 shows the chassis (100) for the three-wheeled vehicle (10) with at least one battery box (105). As per first embodiment of the present invention, said at least one battery box (105) includes a first battery box (105) and a second battery box (105). Said at least one battery box (105) is disposed on said vehicle (10) on said retractable tray (106) and is provided with a sliding arrangement. The first battery box (105) being secured on said retractable tray (106) is disposed beneath the driver seat assembly (17) and said second battery box (105) being secured, on said retractable tray, is disposed in the hollow interior (103) beneath the first passenger seat assembly (17). As per first embodiment of the present invention, said accelerator box (114) is disposed in disposed in front of said first battery box (105) in the driver's compartment. Said at least one battery box (105) being secured on the retractable" tray (106) can be replaced by a sliding arrangement. Said retractable tray (106) is provided with a locking arrangement and a sliding
arrangement and through said locking arrangement said at least one battery box (105) is secured on said retractable tray (106) and through said sliding arrangement said at least one battery box (105) can be replaced whenever needed. Referring to the present invention, said accelerator box (114) is disposed on the right side of a steering column (118). Thus, the dummy pair of handlebars (13) are present behind the front cowl (14) to operate the said three-wheeled vehicle (10).
[00038] Fig.6. shows a perspective view of three- wheeled vehicle (10) with said retractable tray (106) positioned on the vehicle (10) for securing said at least one battery box (105) therein. Said retractable tray (106) is provided with said sliding arrangement and said locking arrangement.Through said sliding arrangement and said locking arrangement provided in the retractable tray (106), said at least two battery box (105) is secured therein. With said locking " arrangement, the said at'least two battery box (105) is firmly, "arranged on said retractable tray (106) and cannot be displaced while the vehicle (10) is taking a turn or is in a running condition.
[00039] Fig. 7 shows a perspective view of said at least one battery box (105) secured on said retractable tray (105) for" disposing on said vehicle. Said retractable tray (105) comprises of a locking and a sliding arrangement. Said sliding arrangement at least one sliding hook (110) through which said retractable tray (106) with said at least one battery box (105) therein can be slided manually through the opening member (113) in the form of a door panel-provided in said pair of vertical members (101). Said sliding arrangement of retractable tray (106) is also provided with a sliding tube assembly as for securing said at least one battery box (105). Said sliding tube assembly of said sliding arrangement " comprises of at least one longitudinal sliding tube (108) provided on said tractable tray (106). The locking arrangement of said retractable tray (106) comprises of a tray locking members .(107) where said housing of the battery box can be detachably locked to said retractable tray (106) through at least one fastener (107) and a guiding member (111) provided therein. Thus, retractable tray (106) with
said locking arrangement and the sliding arrangement prevents the battery to get displaced while the vehicle is running and taking a turn.
[00040] Fig.8. shows a perspective view of an inside cowl (28) of a three wheeled vehicle (10) illustrating mounting (104) of an accelerator pedal (115) and an accelerator box (114) mounted on said floor panel (24) of the three-wheeled vehicle (10). As per the present invention said accelerator box (114) and said accelerator pedal (115) is mounted to the right of a brake pedal (35) of the vehicle 10. Said accelerator pedal (115) is detected by a mechanical stroke, and a mechanical stroke control signal is converted to an electric vehicle speed control through said accelerator box (114). Further Fig.8 illustrate the location of an emergency stop button (27), a USB charging slot (36) and a forward and reverse rotation converting knob (37) positioned on a dashboard assembly (38) of said vehicle (10). Said emergency stop button (27) can be pressed to immediately stop" the vehicle (10). Pressing the emergency stop button (27) can apply an emergency brake, turn off electrical systems, etc. and said forward and reverse rotation converting knob (37) with an operation button of drive electric motor are arranged on vehicle (10).
[00041] Fig. 9 illustrates perspective view of three-wheeled vehicle (10) as per second embodiment of the present invention. According to the second embodiment of the present invention, said three-wheeled vehicle (10) comprises of said chassis (100) is having a seuu-inpnocoque structure, said floor panel (24) rigidly secured to said-chassis (100) and-extending along longitudinal axis of said vehicle (10), said driver compartment (D) and said passenger compartment (P) supported on said chassis (100). Said three-wheeled vehicle (10) includes at least one passenger seat assembly (19), (20) including said first passenger seat assembly (19) and said second passenger seat assembly (20) disposed in said passenger compartment (P) and at least one pillar structure (30) including a first pillar structure (30) and a second pillar structure (30) projects upwardly from opposite sides of said floor panel (24). As per the present invention, said partition wall (29) extends transversely between said first pillar structure (30) and said
second pillar structure (30) and separates said driver compartment (D) from said passenger compartment (P). -
[00042] Further in Fig.9, as per the second embodiment of the present invention, said three wheeled, vehicle (10) further comprises of said pair of vertical members (101) projecting laterally from opposite sides of said floor panel (24) and being rigidly attached to said pillar structure (30), a front member (102) extending transversely between said pair of vertical members (101) and being secured to said floor panel (24). According to the second embodiment of the present invention, the vehicle (10) comprises of at least one battery box (105) including said first battery box (105) and said second battery box (105). Referring to said second embodiment of the present invention, said pair of vertical members (101), said front member (102) and at least a portion of said partition wall (29) "" attachedto said floor panel (24) forms said hollow interior (103) for securing said at least one battery box (105) therein, and further wherein said first passenger seat assembly (19) is being disposed on an open top' portion (116) of said hollow interior (103). As per second embodiment, said accelerator box (114) and said accelerator pedal (115) is disposed to the front of said at least one battery box (105).According to the second embodiment of the present invention, at least one battery box (105) is positioned on said retractable tray (106) and said sliding arrangement and by said locking arrangement. Also a slot (25) for charging said at least one battery box (105) being provided on at least one side of a body panel (22) of said vehicle (10), and positioned above said pair of rear wheels (18), (21) . of said vehicle (10).According to the second embodiment of the present invention, said accelerator box (114) and said accelerator pedal (115) are disposed to the right of a brake pedal (35) of the vehicle (10).As per the second embodiment of the present invention, said pair of vertical members is provided with an opening (117). Further, an opening member (113) is fixedly secured to at least a portion of each of said pair of vertical members (101). In present invention, said opening member (113) in a form of a door panel is provided to said pair of vertical members (101) and said opening member (113) is manually opened and said
retractable tray to.slide within the opening and said battery box (105) or said luggage can be accessed.
[00043] . Fig.10 & Fig.ll illustrate a perspective view of the three-wheeled vehicle (10) with a drive motor (112) and a gear box (111) positioned on said three-wheeled vehicle (10). As per the first and the second embodiment of the present invention, the vehicle (10) drive device is arranged in parallel, including the drive motor, gearbox, differential, around axle, drive axle, wheel arid brake mechanism. Said dive motor (112) runs transversely provided at one side of the gear box (112), and parallel to the wheel hub motor output shaft said drive motor and the gear box directly coupled to said pair of rear wheels (18), (21) and said pair of rear wheels (18), (21) includes a fixed axle (33), a mounting web journaled on the axle, and a tire rim secured to the web in axiaJly spaced relation to the drive motor. Said drive motor (112) is transversely arranged at one side of a gearbox, and an output shaft (not shown) is parallel with said pair of rear wheel axle (33), and the gearbox (111) completely employs circular gears to reduce speed.
[00044] Advantageously, as per the first and the second embodiments of the present invention, said first and said second pillar structure extending laterally from opposite sides of said floor panel and the modified chassis provides stiffness and rigidity to the overall vehicle body-and prevents from any type of side impact, sagging or bending. Said hollow interior formed by said pair of vertical members and the front member is used for securing at least one battery box and where the vehicle if powered by an internal combustion engine, then said hollow interior can be used for accommodating luggage. Hence, as per the present subject matter, said . at least one pillar structure with said pair of vertical members and said front member provides stiffness to a body panel of said vehicle and prevents sagging and bending. As per the first and second embodiments, the modified chassis for the vehicle has capacity of accommodating at least one passenger seat assembly.

1. A three-wheeled vehicle (10), said vehicle (10) comprising:
a chassis (100) extending along a vehicle longitudinal direction (AA);
a floor panel (24) rigidly secured to said chassis (100);
a driver compartment (D) and a passenger compartment (P) supported on
said chassis (100);
at least one passenger seat assembly (19), (20) including a first passenger
seat assembly (19) and a second passenger seat assembly (20) disposed in
said passenger compartment (P);
at least one pillar structure (30) including a first pillar structure (30) and a
second pillar structure (30) projecting upwardly from opposite sides of
said floor panel (24); and
a partition, wall (29) extending transversely between said first pillar . ..
structure (30) and said second pillar structure (30) and separates said
driver compartment (D) and said passenger compartment (P);
wherein said three-wheeled vehicle (10) further comprises of a pair of
vertical members (101) projecting laterally from opposite sides of said
floor panel (24) and being rigidly attached to said at least one pillar ■
structure (30); and wherein a front member (102) extends transversely
between said pair of vertical members (101) and being secured to said
floor panel (24); and wherein said pair of vertical members (101) , said
front member (102) and at least a portion of said partition wall (29)
being attached to said floor panel forms a hollow interior (103) for
securing at least one battery box (105) therein; and further wherein said at
least one passenger seat assembly (19), (20) is being disposed on an open
top portion (116) of said hollow interior (103).
2. The three-wheeled vehicle (10) as claimed in claim 1, wherein said at
least one battery box (105) includes a first battery box (105) and a second
battery box (105).
3. The three-wheeled vehicle (10) as claimed in claim 1, wherein said at
least one battery box (105) is positioned on a retractable tray (106) by a
. locking and a sliding arrangement.
4. The three-wheeled vehicle (10) as claimed in claim 1, wherein a slot (25) for charging said at least one battery box (105) is being provided on at-least one side of a body panel (22) of said vehicle (10), and positioned above a pair of rear wheels (18), (21) of said vehicle (10).
5. The three-wheeled vehicle (10) as claimed in claim 1, wherein said wherein an accelerator box (114) and an accelerator pedal (115) are disposed on a right side of a steering column (118).
6. The three-wheeled vehicle (10) as claimed in claim 1, wherein the
accelerator box (114) and the accelerator pedal (115) are disposed on the
floor panel (24) of the vehicle (10).
7. The three-wheeled vehicle (10) as claimed in claim 1, wherein each of said pair of vertical members (101) comprises of an opening (117).
8. The three-wheeled vehicle (10) as claimed in claim 1, wherein an opening member (113) is fixedly secured to at least a portion of each of said pair of vertical members (101).
9. The three-wheeled vehicle (10) as claimed in claim 8, wherein said opening member (113) is adapted for manually opening and closing of said opening (117).
10. The three-wheeled vehicle (10) as claimed in claim 1 or claim 8, wherein said retractable tray (106) is configured to slide within the opening (117) such that said at least one battery box (105) can be accessed.
