"A Tower Crane"

Abstract: This invention relates to a tower crane comprising of a mast providing height to the crane attached to slewing unit for rotation of crane wherein said slewing unit is connected with horizontal jib, counter jib and tower head on its top. Currently available cranes can"t lift load to good height. Hence, it can"t be used for lifting/conveying any load/material to high elevation. However, said tower crane of the instant invention can address the aforesaid drawbacks. Tower crane is mostly use in place where vertical height is prime concern such as housing projects in buildings and civil construction, bridges, dams, power plants, metros, overhead water tanks, mines, cement plants, refineries.

Specification

FIELD OF INVENTION
This invention relates to a tower crane.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
As such cranes are known to have been provided. However, it can't lift load to a
good height. Hence, it can't be used for lifting/conveying any loadlmaterial to
high elevation. Hence, there is a requirement for development of a tower crane,
which can address the aforesaid problems.
OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION
The primary object of the present invention is to provide a tower crane which is
used for lifting/ conveying any load/ material to high elevation.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a tower crane which is
efficient and reliable.
Further object of the present invention is to provide a tower crane which is not
complicated in construction.
SUMNIARY OF THE INVENTION
Tower crane is self-raising tower crane.
This crane has the horizontal jib, Counter jib, top slewing or Tower Head and
hydraulic climbing system. This crane holds a streamline form, which is
artistic and perfect.
This crane is used in multi-work task, and the suitable working range is wide.
It can be installed in different modes, such as, fured, attached and traveling
mode.
The hoisting mechanism applies eddy-current motor. It has a wide speed
adjustable range, stable operation and high reliability, and can achieve low
speed in heavy load and high speed in light load.
The present invention is provided with at least one motor. The slewing
mechanism applies the moment motor of converter to adjust the speed and DC
brake. It has larger overload capacity and the advantage of starting up at heavy
load. These ensure that the crane can start up and brake more stably. The
operation is safer and more reliable.
By using the added standard section and hydraulic climbing system to raise
the crane, the hoisting height of the crane rises with the rise in building height,
the hoisting performance is quite well at various heights.
The Cabin of the crane is streamline, which is installed at the top of the crane,
from which field of vision is broad, and the operation is safe, comfortable and
convenient. The Cabin can control various mechanisms of the crane by
advanced ganged console.
The safety and protection device of the crane is also complete and reliable,
including hoisting moment limiter, Slewing Ergo meter, slewing limiter, radiusvariation
limiter, height limiter. Further, there are platforms, rails and other
safety devices on it. All these ensure the crane runs safely and reliably.
The Self-raising tower crane is provided with advanced parameters, reliable
performance, nice appearance, reasonable construction and high quality. It has
advanced automatic control system. It can perfectly meet the construction
requirements of the high buildings and industrial buildings.
The tower crane is fixed to the ground on a concrete slab (and sometimes
attached to the sides of structures as well). It is combination of height and
lifting capacity and used in the construction of tall buildings. The base is
attached to the mast for giving the crane its height. Further the mast is
attached to the slewing unit (gear and motor) that allows the crane to rotate.
On top of the slewing unit there are three main parts: the long horizontal jib,
counter jib, and the Tower head. The long horizontal jib is the part of the crane
that carries the load. The counter-jib carries a counterweight, usually of
concrete blocks, which the jib suspends the load to and from the center crane.
The crane operator either sits in a cab at the top of the tower or controls the
crane by radio control from the ground. In the first case the operator's cab is
most usually located at the top of the tower attached to the turntable, but can
be mounted on the jib, or partway down the tower. The lifting hook is operated
by the crane operator using electric motors to manipulate wire rope cables
through system of sheaves. The hook is located on the long horizontal arm to
lift the load which also contains motor.
STATEMENT OF INVENTION
According to this invention, there is provided a tower crane comprising of a
mast providing height to the crane attached to slewing unit for rotation of
crane wherein said slewing unit is connected with horizontal jib, counter jib
and tower head on its top.

DETAIL DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION WITH REFERENCE TO THE
ACCOMPANYING DRAWINGS:
The crane comprising of metal structure, mechanical driver, hydraulic climbing
mechanism, electric control and safety protection devices as shown in fig (1
and 1A). The same is described here in below:-
Steel construction
The steel structure includes base section, standard section of fixed tower.
Hoisting jib, Counter jib, Slew Mast, Climbing frame, Wall Anchor Frame,
Tower Head and Cabin. Now, reference may be made to fig. 2- 12.
Out Rigger (fig. 2)
Out rigger is a structural section comprising of main chord, plates & adopters.
_ Standard Mast Section (fig. 3)
The Fixed tower crane comprising of a plurality of standard sections. The
numbers of standard sections are determined by the height of crane. Standard
section comprising of main chord, horizontal brace and tilting brace, which are
welded to a spatial trussing. The lower parts of fured tower crane has at least
three standard sections, which has at least three sleeves on the end, and at
least two sleeves on the main chord of the fixed tower. The sections have very
good ex-changeability. Changing the number of the standard section of fured
tower, the fured tower can reach its required height. Every standard section has
platforms and ladders.
Climbing Frame (fig. 4)
Climbing frame comprising of Telescopic cage platform, rail, pulley, claw and
hydraulic climbing mechanism. The Telescopic cage is integral which is
mounted on the fured tower, upper part of which is connected with the Lower
Bracket.
During operation of the climbing frame, there are a plurality of rollers at the
inside of the climbing frame, which are supported outside of the main chord of
fixed tower and act as guide support. The rollers can move up or down. The
support is fixed at the middle of the horizontal beam at upper part of
Telescopic cage and connected with the single lug of the oil cylinder, so that it
supports the climbing load of the oil cylinder. There are at least two claws on
the Telescopic cage. The load of climbing can be transferred though the claws,
when the oil pump takes back its piston rod. There are at least two leading
beams for standard section on the Telescopic cage and at least four leading
rollers also. The leading rollers are preset on the connection sleeve of the
standard section which are led in, and when the leading rollers roll along the
leading beam, the standard section can be pushed to right position smoothly.
For safety of installation of climbing mechanism, there are platforms and rails
around the climbing frame.
. Upper Bracket (fig. 5)
Upper Bracket is a box type structure, upper part of which is connected with
the Slew Mast, and the lower part of it is connected with the inner cycle of the
slewing bearing.
Lower Bracket (fig. 6)
The Lower Bracket is also a box same as the Upper Bracket, upper part of
which is connected with the outer gearing of the slewing bearing. The lower
part of the Lower Bracket is connected with standard section and climbing
frame.
Slew Mast (fig. 7)
The Slew Mast is a spatial trussing. Its bottom is connected with Upper
Bracket and its top is connected with the Tower Head of crane. The Cabin is
installed at the lateral side, wherein a platform is set up to ensure the safety
and protection.
Tower Head (fig. 8)
Tower Head is a triangular spatial trussing. The front and rear chord is welded
as a tube by bars, the brace of which is made of the seamless tube. Its bottom
is connected with the Slew Mast. The front and rear side of which are installed
with pulling plates hinged to tie bar of the jib and the counter jib respectively.
The upper part of the Tower Head has a platform, so that people can install
and disassemble the crane and thread the hoisting wire on it.
Counter Jib (fig. 9)
The counter jib is a plane trussing composed of channel and angle, which can
be divided into at least two separable portions, which can be connected. The
hoisting mechanism and rope arrangement device is located at the rear of the
jib; and the counter blocks are located at the end of it. It has platform and rail
for installation and maintenance.
The root of the jib is connected with the Slew Mast & another end is connected
with the Tower Head by tie bars section assy.
Hoisting Jib (fig. 10 )
The hoisting jib is non-uniform section and triangle type. The upper and lower
chord is a tube welded by angle bars, the titled brace and horizontal brace.
Both the upper and the outside surface of the lower chord are kept horizontal
and vertical. Thus, the lower chord is also used as a rail for jib trolley.
The hoisting jib can be divided into a plurality of separable portions, which is
detach ably connected to each other. In order to improve the hoisting
performance and to reduce the dead weight of hoisting jib, design, such as
double hoisting points and non-uniform section spatial trussing can be
provided. The drawing mechanism is placed on the first portion of the hoisting
jib. Further, the hoisting jib is provided in connection with the Tower Head.
Jib Trolley (fig. 11)
The jib trolley brings the hook (Fig. 12) and lifted goods to move back and forth
along the hoisting jib. It comprising of a plurality of traveling wheels &
supporting wheels arranged symmetrically on each side of the trolley. The lower
chord is the traveling rail of the trolley. There is cage on any side of the trolley,
which can send the repairer to any position of hoisting jib for repairing and
installation. There is also an adjusting wheel for tensioning the wire rope in jib
trolley.
Operating Mechanism:-
The mechanical driver of the crane comprising of hoisting mechanism, slewing
mechanism, drawing mechanism, hydraulic climbing mechanism etc. Brief
description of which is follows:-
. Hoisting mechanism:-
The hoisting mechanism is designed with different speed tb suit different
hoisting load and to meet the requirements. It comprises of motor, speed
reducer, rope drum and multi-function travel limiter. The speed can be
adjusted by changing the frequency so that the rope drum gets different speed,
then the crane can get the light load with high speed and heavy load with lower
speed. A multi-function travel limiter is fitted at the end of the rope drum.
When the weight of goods reaches the highest or lowest limit, the hoisting
mechanism stops automatically which is allowed to operate reversed.
Slewing Mechanism
The slewing mechanism is located on Upper Bracket. The motor with air
cooling fan is connected with the planet gear speed reducer to drive the small
slewing gear, and then to drive the Slew Mast, hoisting jib and counter jib,
which are located at the upper part of crane, to swivel right or left. The speed
adjusting type is of variable frequency, which ensures that the crane can start
up or brake stably without impacting. The slewing brake is normal close type.
When the crane is out of order, the slewing unit can move with the wind.
Luffer Mechanism
The jib trolley drives rope drum through planet gear speed reducer. The trolley
moves back and forth on the rail with different speeds. The Luffer mechanism
of the trolley is located at the first jib.
Hydraulic Climbing Mechanism
The hydraulic climbing mechanism is composed of hydraulic cylinder, oil
pump, motor, valve, oil tank and valves.
At the time of adding standard mast section, which is already placed at mast
climbing platform & hook hoist another mast for balancing. Now the pump
station is started to actuate the hydraulic oil cylinder to Prop up upper
structure,
The same operation is repeated again, so the whole work of installing a
standard section can be completed after two same cycles.
Electric Control and Operation System
The control and operation system of this crane uses advanced ganged console,
which is located in the front of the Cabin, wherein console can be divided into
right and left parts, each having a control handle. The left handle can control
two movements concurrent: radius variation and slewing operation, and the
right handle can control hoisting operation. There are also indication lights and
buttons on the console. Therefore, the Cabin is convenient and comfortable for
operation.
Through the control handles (ganged switch) of the console, it controls various
contractors, relays and speed-adjusting controller to change the working state
of motors, to attain forward and reversed motions, and to shift speeds and
brake.
Main instructions are forwarded from the console to control the operation of
the individual mechanisms of the crane.
Applications of Tower Crane:-
Tower crane is mostly used in place where vertical height is prime concern
such as:-
P Housing projects , in buildings and civil construction
P Bridges
> Dams
P Power plants
> Metros
P Over head water tanks
> Mines
> Cement plants.
The tower crane of the instant invention can be used:
For conveying a flow semi-fluid mass such as concrete mix and other building
materials to points to high elevation without the limitation of prior art devices.
For conveying concrete mix wherein the capabilities of a cantilever crane
having a pivotable boom and a rail mounted trolley are utilized.
For conveying a flowable semi-fluid mass distant point which includes a first
elongated and substantially upright support member; a second elongated and
outwardly extending support member having a first end section and a second
end section; first pivot means for pivotally connecting said first end section of
said second member to said first support member for pivoting about at least a
substantially vertical axis.
For vertical lifts in building construction projects and similar applications. The
load being lifted must in many instances also be pivoted about the vertical
tower axis.
It is to be noted that the present invention is susceptible to modifications,
adaptations and changes by those skilled in the art. Such variant embodiments
employing the concepts and features of this invention are intended to be within
the scope of the present invention, which is further set forth under the
following claims: -

WE CLAIM:
1. A tower crane comprising of a mast providing height to the crane
attached to slewing unit for rotation of crane wherein said slewing unit is
connected with horizontal jib, counter jib and tower head on its top.
2. A tower crane as claimed in claim 1, wherein the mastlfked tower crane
comprising of a plurality of standard sections according to height of
crane in which the standard section comprising of main chord,
horizontal brace and tilting brace, that are fixed to a spatial trussing and
each standard section is provided with platforms and ladders.
3. A tower crane as claimed in claim 1 or 2, wherein the fixed tower is
mounted with a climbing frame, upper part of which is connected with
lower bracket in which the climbing frame comprising of telescopic cage
platform, rail, pulley, claw and hydraulic climbing mechanism.
4. A tower crane as claimed in any of the preceding claims, wherein the
slew mast is a spatial trussing, bottom of which is connected with upper
bracket and top of which is connected with tower head of crane, in which
a cabin is installed at the lateral side with a platform so as to ensure
safety and protection.
5. A tower crane as claimed in any of the preceding claims, wherein the
tower head is a trussing such as herein described, bottom of which is
connected with slew mast and front and rear side of which are installed
with pulling plates connected to the jib and the counter jib respectively,
in which upper part of the tower head is provided with a platform.
6. A tower crane as claimed in any of the preceding claims, wherein the
counter jib is a trussing with hoisting mechanism and rope arrangement
device at the rear and counter blocks at the end of the jib, in which the
counter jib has platform and rail for installation and maintenance with
the root of jib connected with the slew mast and another end is
connected with the tower head through Tie rods.
7. A tower crane as claimed in any of the preceding claims, wherein the
hoisting jib such as herein described can be divided into a plurality of
separable sections, which are detachably connected to each other, in
which the hoisting jib is provided in connection with the tower head
through Tie rods.
8. A tower crane as claimed in any of the preceding claims, wherein said jib
trolley comprising of a plurality of traveling wheels and supporting wheels
arranged symmetrically on each side of the trolley, in which the trolley
brings the hook and lifted goods to move back and forth along the hoisting
jib with an adjusting wheel for tensioning the wire rope in jib trolley.
9. A tower crane substantially as herein described with reference to the
accompanying drawings.
