A Unitized Mechanical Face Seal

Abstract: ABSTRACT The invention relates a unitised mechanical face seal. The said comprises a sleeve (3) having an external stepped diameter with a flange at one end and other end having a beaded end with circumferential groove at adjacent side. An adopter housing,(1) fitted with a rubber seal (2) fitted in the holding groove along the inner flange, and a metal face seal with a first O-ring(5) held between mounted over the said sleeve. A counter ring (6) mounted over the said sleeve(3) with a second O-ring (7)fitted in the annular groove formed over the said sleeve(3) at adjacent to bead such that said annular inner flange facing the said metal face seal (4) flange closely. The space between metal face seal and sleeve filled with GN paste(10) for lubrication. A pair of third O-rings(8) provided on the said adopter housing outer diameter in the annular grooves. The sleeve (3) is provided with forth O ring(9) in the annular groove in the internal diameter at the middle portion. Reference Figure 2

FIELD OF THE INVENTION
Present invention relates to a unitized mechanical face seal. More particularly, present invention relates unitized mechanical face seal, which is complete ready to fit cartridge type seal, which can replaced the standard shaft sealing arrangement.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The growing demand for advanced and reliable sealing solutions on even the heaviest of slurry applications and higher surface speed applications has resulted in the development of the new and improved design of single Unitized Mechanical Face seals as per the present invention, more specifically for PTO Shaft application for Tractors.
PRIOR ART
In prior art, Cassette or lip Seals are available. However, these seals as available in the prior art have very poor performance and have short wear life are the major drawback of this Seal.
The seal according to the prior art has dynamic contact with elastomer and wear also it is metal to metal contact, hence life of the seal is greatly reduced and therefore, less.
OBJECT OF THE PRSENT INVENTION:
The object of the present invention aims at developing an Unitized Mechanical Face Seal.

It is also the object of the present invention to provide Unitized Mechanical Face Seal which is a Life time option with increase in service life.
It is also the object of the invention to develop the Unitized Mechanical Face Seal which controls the leakage of oil in the system.
Yet another object of the present invention is to overcome the drawback and limitations of the prior art.
STATEMENT OF INVENTION
According to this invention therefore, an unitised mechanical face seal comprises a sleeve(3) having An external stepped diameter with a flange at one end other end having a beaded end with circumferential groove at adjacent side; An adopter housing,(1) having circular inner flange with rubber seal(2) fitted in the holding groove along the inner flange, mounted over the said sleeve(3) with the said adapter flange outer side facing against the said sleeve flange; A metal face seal,(4) having one end flange with sealing face other side having an annular groove for fitting first O-ring,(5) mounted over the said sleeve with the said first O – ring(5) facing against the said adopter housing such that the said O-ring sandwiched between the skirt portion the said adopter(1) housing and the said metal face seal(4); A counter ring(6) having annular internal flange mounted over the sleeve with a second O-ring(7) fitted in the annular groove formed over the sleeve(3) at adjacent to the said bead such that said annular inner flange facing the said metal face seal(4) flange closely. A cavity formed

between the said metal face seal and sleeve is filled with GN paste(10) for lubrication; A pair of third O-rings(8) at distant parallel provided on the said adopter housing(1) outer diameter in the annular grooves formed therein; A forth O- ring(9) is fitted in the annular groove formed in the internal diameter at the middle portion.

DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
The seals are of complete “ready to fit” cartridge type and can replace the standard shaft sealing arrangement. The Unitized seal according to the present invention is a pre-adjusted “slide on unit” and require no further settings.
Referring to figure 1 and 2 the unitised mechanical face seal comprises a sleeve (3) having An external stepped diameter with a flange at one end. Other end having a beaded end with circumferential groove at adjacent side. An adopter housing, (1)

having circular inner flange with rubber seal (2) fitted in the holding groove along the inner flange, mounted over the said sleeve with the adapter said flange outer side facing against the said sleeve flange. A metal face seal,(4) having one end flange with sealing face other side having an annular groove for fitting first O-ring,(5) mounted over the said sleeve(3) with the said O –ring(5) facing against the said adopter housing(1) such that the said O-ring(5) sandwiched between the skirt portion the said adopter housing and the said metal face seal(4). A counter ring (6) having annular internal flange mounted over the said sleeve (3) with a second O-ring (7) fitted in the annular groove formed over the said sleeve(3) at adjacent to bead such that said annular inner flange facing the said metal face seal (4) flange closely. A cavity exists between the said metal face seal and sleeve. The cavity is filled with GN paste (10) for lubrication. A pair of third O-rings (8) at distant parallel provided on the said adopter housing outer diameter in the annular grooves formed therein. The sleeve (3) is provided with forth O ring (9) in the annular groove formed in the internal diameter at the middle portion.
Features
A new flexible fixing of the seal face and unitization allow the seal according to the present invention is capable of tolerating both vibration and excessive shaft deflection. Static and rotating seal parts exposed to slurry have been geometrically harmonised to minimize the turbulence and secondary flow streams, thus reducing wear in high RPM applications, which would not have been possible by the seals of the prior art.
Innovative design with the elastomers located on the atmospheric

side, protected from both mud and barrier liquid, eliminates hang¬up problems or clogging of the O Ring. The design also accepts axial variations of up to ± 1 mm, enabling operators to take advantage of axial adjustment features without resetting the assembly and thereby saves the time.
Unitized Mechanical Seals are supplied with metal parts in alloy steel and the loader Rings of NBR60 material and seal faces in a unique alloy steel Grade, hardened to 62Hrc.
Options
Material options include metallic components in High Chrome Moly alloy Cast Steel or Ni-Hard White Cast Iron For extremely corrosive and abrasive environment applications. A full range of special coatings are also available.
ASSEMBLY:
In the un-mounted condition of the Unitized Mechanical Face Seal assembly there exists an axial clearance between the sleeve and adapter housing faces.
While assembling, an appropriate tool and correct installation method is to be followed. The assembly is press fitted on the shaft and as the sleeve progress till bearing Inner race face, the gap between adapter housing and sleeve face reduces to zero.
This is the condition when seal assembly perfectly fits on the shaft. As this seal is designed for high RPM, the cover is to be fitted firmly.

FUNCTION:
At high RPM, to compensate the radial displacement of Metal face Seal, which is in Floating condition, a clearance is maintained between the sleeve and inside diameter of the Metal face Seal which is possible due to its construction and assembly.
The leakage of Oil in the system is controlled by the arrangement of O Ring- Adapter Housing - Flatness of the Metal Face Seal and Counter Seal faces. The Possible mud entry from the outside of system is prevented by the sealing arrangement governed by O Ring-Adapter, Housing and the Sleeve according to the present invention.
The tendency of the Floating Seal to be unstable while at run is restricted by providing the Pin connecting the Adapter housing with Metal Face Seal.
CONSTRUCTION
1. Sleeve Fittment : Specially Designed Sleeve holds unitized assembly and firmly fits the same on the shaft.
2. Adapter Housing ast Alloy / 1030/1040 Material holds and guide the Metal Face Seals

3. Metal Face Seal - Cast 1/ Cast 2 / alloy Steel - harden tempered to 62HRC, acts as stationary seal.
4. Counter Ring - Dynamic Seal of cast 1 / cast 2 / Alloy steel Material and hardened to 62HRc
5. O-Ring-1 - Elastomer /Silicon /NBR /Viton -is an Energizer for the mechanical seals in contact as well as it seals the mud slurry from the either side
6. O-Ring 2 - Elastomer /Silicon /NBR /Viton - contact as well as it seals the mud slurry from the either side.
7. O-Ring 3 Elastomer /Silicon /NBR /Viton - Employed for retaining the lubricating oil in the sealing chamber.
8. O-Ring 4 - Elastomer /Silicon /NBR /Viton - Employed for retaining the lubricating oil in the sealing chamber
9. Rubber Seal Eleastomer /Silicon /NBR /Viton - Employed to seals the mud slurry from the either side.
10. GN PASTE - Employed as lubricant.

We claim :
1. A unitised mechanical face seal comprises a sleeve (3) having an external stepped diameter with a flange at one end and other end having a beaded end with circumferential groove at adjacent side;
an adopter housing,(1) having circular inner flange with rubber seal(2) fitted in the holding groove along the inner flange, mounted over the said sleeve(3) with the said adapter flange outer side facing against the said sleeve flange;
a metal face seal,(4) having one end flange with sealing face other side having an annular groove for fitting first O-ring,(5) mounted over the said sleeve with the said first O –ring(5) facing against the said adopter housing such that the said O-ring sandwiched between the skirt portion the said adopter(1) housing and the said metal face seal(4);
a counter ring (6) having annular internal flange mounted over the sleeve with a second O-ring (7) fitted in the annular groove formed over the sleeve(3) at adjacent to the said bead such that said annular inner flange facing the said metal face seal (4) flange closely;
a cavity formed between the said metal face seal and sleeve is filled with GN paste (10) for lubrication;
a pair of third O-rings (8) at distant parallel provided on the said adopter housing(1) outer diameter in the annular grooves formed therein;

a forth O- ring (9) is fitted in the annular groove formed in the internal diameter at the middle portion.
2. The mechanical seal as claimed in claim 1 wherein the said metallic components are made of high chrome moly alloy cast steel or Ni-hard white cast iron for extremely corrosive and abrasive environment applications.
3. The mechanical seal as claimed in claim 1 wherein the said adapter housing is made of cast alloy / 1030/1040.
4. The mechanical seal as claimed in claim 1 wherein the said metal face seal made of Cast 1*/ Cast 2** / Alloy Steel and harden tempered to 62HRC.
5. The mechanical seal as claimed in claim 1 wherein the said counter ring made of Cast 1*/ Cast 2** / Alloy steel Material and hardened to 62HRc.
6. The mechanical seal as claimed in claim 1 wherein the said wherein the O-rings and rubber seal is made of Elastomer /Silicon /NBR /Viton Elastomer /Silicon /NBR /Viton.
