DESC:TECHNICAL FIELD
[001] The embodiments herein generally relate to vehicle hood and more particularly, to a vehicle hood structure.
BACKGROUND
[002] A vehicle hood is located at a front end of a vehicle and provides access to an engine compartment for maintenance and repair. The hood is usually pivotally attached to a vehicle body near a windshield or near a bumper. The vehicle hood is one of the first components, in addition to the bumper, that takes a load in the event of a frontal collision of the vehicle. In case of a collision with a pedestrian, hood geometry should ensure pedestrian safety by maintaining HIC (head injury criterion) value less than 1000 as well as minimum damage to the vehicle.
[003] There are numerous hood structures that are being currently used. However, such hood structures are either configured to ensure stiffness and durability of the hood or configured to ensure pedestrian safety that lacks durability. Further, the conventional hood geometries, with added reinforcements and complex design, incurs high manufacturing costs, pose difficulties in manufacturing the hood and further, increase the weight of the hood which results in increasing an overall weight of the vehicle.
[004] Therefore, there exists a need for a vehicle hood, which balances safety of pedestrian as well as durability targets with lower gauge thickness. Furthermore, there exists a need for a vehicle hood that can eliminate the aforementioned drawbacks.
OBJECTS
[005] The principal object of the embodiments of this invention is to provide a vehicle hood, which ensures both pedestrian safety and durability.
[006] Another object of the embodiments of this invention is to provide a vehicle hood, which is easy to manufacture.
[007] These and other objects of the embodiments herein will be better appreciated and understood when considered in conjunction with the following description and the accompanying drawings. It should be understood, however, that the following descriptions, while indicating embodiments and numerous specific details thereof, are given by way of illustration and not of limitation. Many changes and modifications may be made within the scope of the embodiments herein without departing from the spirit thereof, and the embodiments herein include all such modifications.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DRAWINGS
[008] The embodiments of the invention are illustrated in the accompanying drawings, through out which like reference letters indicate corresponding parts in the various figures. The embodiments herein will be better understood from the following description with reference to the drawings, in which:
[009] FIG. 1 depicts a bottom view of a hood of a vehicle showing an inner surface of the hood, according to an embodiment of the invention as disclosed herein.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION
[0010] The embodiments herein and the various features and advantageous details thereof are explained more fully with reference to the non-limiting embodiments that are illustrated in the accompanying drawings and detailed in the following description. Descriptions of well-known components and processing techniques are omitted so as to not unnecessarily obscure the embodiments herein. The examples used herein are intended merely to facilitate an understanding of ways in which the embodiments herein may be practiced and to further enable those of skill in the art to practice the embodiments herein. Accordingly, the examples should not be construed as limiting the scope of the embodiments herein.
[0011] The embodiments herein achieve a vehicle hood, which ensures both pedestrian safety and durability. Further, embodiments herein achieve a vehicle hood, which is easy to manufacture. Referring now to the drawings, and more particularly to FIG. 1, where similar reference characters denote corresponding features consistently throughout the figures and the specification, there are shown embodiments.
[0012] FIG. 1 depicts a bottom view of a hood 10 of a vehicle showing an inner surface of the hood 10, according to an embodiment of the invention as disclosed herein. The hood 10 of the vehicle (not shown), includes a beading pattern 10A. The beading pattern 10A includes a plurality of beadings 12, a plurality of links 14 and a core ring 18. The plurality of beadings 12 and corresponding plurality of links 14 define a plurality of concavities or dimples 16.
[0013] In an embodiment, the plurality of links 14 includes at least one link 14a, at least one link 14b, a plurality of links 14R and a plurality of links 14L. In an embodiment, the links 14a and the link 14b is tangentially connected to the core ring 18. The links 14a and 14b are parallel to each other. The link 14a is configured to support a plurality of links 14R extending towards a first outer edge E1 of the hood 10. Similarly, the link 14b is configured to support a plurality of links 14L extending towards a second outer edge E2 of the hood 10. Further, the plurality of links 14 (14a, 14b, 14R and 14 L) are substantially parallel to each other. Furthermore, the plurality of links 14 (14a, the link 14b, 14R and 14L) are substantially parallel to the first outer edge E1 and the second outer edge E2 of the hood 10.
[0014] In an embodiment, the hood 10 includes a thickness of 0.6 mm. However, it is also within the scope of the invention to provide the hood 10 any other thickness value.
[0015] The aforementioned configuration and hood geometry of the hood 10 provides a better torsional stiffness, oil canning and better HIC values for pedestrian safety. Further, hood 10 provides ease of manufacturing and weight reduction. The aforementioned configuration of the links 14, beadings 12, core ring 18, dimples 16, achieves uniform stiffness distribution with good impact absorption and reduced acceleration peaks. The aforementioned configuration further withstands hood slams and provides better NVH performance.
[0016] The foregoing description of the specific embodiments will so fully reveal the general nature of the embodiments herein that others can, by applying current knowledge, readily modify and/or adapt for various applications such specific embodiments without departing from the generic concept, and, therefore, such adaptations and modifications should and are intended to be comprehended within the meaning and range of equivalents of the disclosed embodiments. It is to be understood that the phraseology or terminology employed herein is for the purpose of description and not of limitation. Therefore, while the embodiments herein have been described in terms of preferred embodiments, those skilled in the art will recognize that the embodiments herein can be practiced with modification within the spirit and scope of the embodiments as described herein.
