Abstract: A VENTILATED TRANSTIBIAL SOCKET The present disclosure relates to a ventilated transtibial socket. The ventilated transtibial socket comprises a receptacle configured to receive a user’s stump from an upper end. A top adaptor is configured to couple with a lower end of receptacle and a bottom adaptor mount over a foot assembly. A flexible socket is interposed between the top adaptor and the bottom adaptor defined with a wall structured to form a central opening. A plurality of slots is provided on the wall that extend axially between a proximal end and a distal end of the wall forming a plurality of struts therebetween. The plurality of struts includes a first set of struts and a second set of struts configured to deform radially opposite to each other when subjected to a load applied by the user. Figure. 1
1. A ventilated transtibial socket (100) comprising:
a receptacle (10), having an upper end (11) and a lower end (12), wherein
the receptacle (10) is configured to receive a user’s stump from the upper end (11);
5 a top adaptor (20), configured to couple with the lower end (12) of
receptacle (10);
a bottom adaptor (30), configured to mount over a foot assembly (40); and
a flexible socket (50), interposed between the top adaptor (20) and the
bottom adaptor (30), defined with:
10 a wall (51) structured to form a central opening (52), and the wall
(51) is having a proximal end (51a) adapted to be received within the top
adaptor (20) and a distal end (51b) receivable within the bottom adaptor
(30);
a plurality of struts (54) formed by a plurality of slots (53) provided
15 on the wall (51), wherein the plurality of slots (53) extend between the
proximal end (51a) and the distal end (51b), therebetween on the wall (51),
wherein the plurality of struts (54) includes a first set of struts (54a) and a
second set of struts (54b), and the plurality of struts (54) are configured to
deform radially opposite to each other when subjected to a load applied by
20 the user.
2. The ventilated transtibial socket (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein each strut of
the first set of struts (54a) and the second set of struts (54b) are configured
alternatively.
15
3. The ventilated transtibial socket (100) as claimed in claim 2, wherein the first set
of struts (54a) are configured to deform inwardly towards the central opening (52)
and the second set of struts (54b) are configured to deform outwardly away from
the central opening (52), forming a gap for passage of air into the central opening
5 (52) of the flexible socket (50).
4. The ventilated transtibial socket (100) as claimed in claim 3, comprises a first
plurality of grooves (55a) formed at an interior of the wall, near the proximal end
(51a) and the distal end (51b), and adjoining the first set of struts (54a) for inward
deformation of the first set of struts (54a).
10 5. The ventilated transtibial socket (100) as claimed in claim 4, comprises a second
plurality of grooves (55b) formed at an exterior of the wall (51), near the proximal
end (51a) and the distal end (51a), and adjoining the second set of struts (54b) for
outward deformation of the second set of struts (54b).
6. The ventilated transtibial socket (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein the top
15 adaptor (20) is having annular body defined with a through hole (21), wherein the
top adaptor (20) comprises:
a flange (22) extending radially outward from a top end (20a) of the
annular body, wherein the flange (22) includes a plurality of mounting
provisions (23) to couple with the lower end (12) of the receptacle (10);
20 a resting edge (24) radially projecting towards the through hole (21)
for resting the top adaptor (20) over the proximal end (51a) of the flexible
socket (50);
a plurality of projections (25) extending downwardly from the
annular body, adapted to abut with the first set of struts (54a) and restrict
25 outward deformation of the first set of struts (54a).
16
7. The ventilated transtibial socket (100) as claimed in claim 5, wherein the bottom
adaptor (30) is defined as a hollow body having a collar (31), wherein the bottom
adaptor (30) comprises:
a support edge (32) projecting inwardly across a periphery of the
5 hollow body, to receive and rest the distal end (51b) of the flexible socket
(50);
a plurality of projections (35) extending upwardly from the collar
(31), adapted to abut with the first set of struts (54a) and restrict outward
deformation of the first set of struts (54a).
10 8. The ventilated transtibial socket (100) as claimed in claim 5, wherein the flexible
socket (50) is formed as a cylinder or truncated cylinder.
9. The ventilated transtibial socket (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein the foot
assembly (40) comprises a pylon (41) coupled to an artificial foot (43), via an ankle
assembly (42).
15 10. The ventilated transtibial socket (100) as claimed in claim 1, comprises one or more
straps (60) coupled to the receptacle (10).
