Abstract: The invention relates to a water treatment system with electronic membrane life enhance to reduce the membrane failure due to scaling of salts on the surface of the membrane used for water treatment or purification. This consists of a electronic circuitry generate high frequency micro vibration and a wiring system to transmit this high frequency micro vibration to water to vibrate the scale forming molecules in to a disturbed stage.
This invention relates to a water purification system provided with an electronic life enhancer and is useful in producing scaling and clogging of niembranes of water purifying system.
General Background of Invention:
Membrane technology based water purifiers are commonly used in drinking water purification segment and have shown with a very high growth rate in the recent past. Reverse osmosis products are designed to remove dissolved salt content from water input having high salt content. During this process there is a possibility of membrane chocking due to scaling and clogging of the membrane due to calcium and magnesium salts deposition on the effective filtration surface of the membrane. This is a major concern in membrane based water treatment system. The solution presently available is based on softener pretreatment of the water or by chemical treatment of the water.
Field of Invention:
This invention relates to water treatment system with electronic membrane life enhancer system to improve the life of the membrane from scaling. This consists of an electronic circuit called PCB - printed circuit board and wiring system on water flow path.
The main objectives of the invention are as follows:-
Prevents membrane scaling due to hardness of water without adding chemicals in to water.
Though this invention is described with respect to water purification system it can be used in all water treatment equipments including water heater, domestic water purifiers and treatment plants wherever clogging and scaling are expected to take place.
Pretreatment chemicals which are commonly used for de-scaling on the membrane are avoided by the use of this de-scaling means which improves the membrane service life.
It is more cost effective and is eco friendly.
Details of Invention:
The present invention is described an add on feature of membrane filter of water
purifying system consisting of following components:-
(a) Particulate filter module,
(b) sediment filter module,
(c) activated carbon filter module,
(d) RO or nano or ultra membrane filter module, post carbon filter module and storage tank. The water purification assembly is also provided with a pump to create sufficient pressure. Electronic membrane life enhancer is positioned in between activated carbon filter module and membrane filter module in a preferred embodiment.
This works basically by induction of electromagnetic waves into water. The micro vibration caused by these waves hinders formation of hard, tenacious crystals of minerals, especially calcium and magnesium commonly known as scales on the membrane.
The micro vibration is generated with the help of electronic circuitry system. The circuitry work with 1100-1700Hz frequency and it is transmitted to water with the help of a clockwise and anticlockwise winding of conducting wires over the water passage system to vibrate water flow device by reducing the scale formation mineral salts. Electromagnetic wave are fed to these wound wires. This enables propagation of waves into water entering the membrane filtration chamber. The induced signals propagated in the water results in modifying the charges of mineral salts. An increase in the level of energy of these chemical constituents results in upsetting the formation of scale forming crystals.
The impact of the magnetic circuitry is retained by the suspended molecules preventing additional clustering and scale formation. The agitated molecules of calcium and magnesium can not form a salt layer on the surface of the membrane. The winding of the wire is regulated based on the size of the membrane system. An induced electro magnetic field is generated in the water to agitate the molecules.
It can be used in any membrane based water purifiers, more specifically reverse osmosis or nano - filtration or ultra-filtration water purification units
This invention relates to a water purifying system provided with an electronic membrane life enhance life enhancer to reduce clogging and scaling on said membranes, said purification system comprises alteast one sediment filter module, activated carbon reverse osmosis module, nano filtration or ultra filtration module, micro filtration module, and the like and / or UV purification module, and electrodyalysis module, said system being provided with a high frequency micro vibration generating means incorporated in the water flow path preferably after the activated carbon filtration module and before any of the membrane filtration modules, micro vibration produced by said means propagating wave formation in the water flow path to reduce clustering and scale formation on said membrane.
The water treatment system pump has provided to create sufficient pressure and a reject water valve is provided to control the reject water flow. An Auto flush assembly is provided to clean the membrane and or system periodically without human interference and electro magnetic valves control the water flow through the system. A post carbon or polisher media is provided to improve the taste of the purified water before delivery and a conductivity sensor is provided inline with the water flow to check the conductivity of water. A Microprocessor programmed chip — timer is provided to activate the bypass electromagnetic valve based on input conductivity.
The water treatment system has a dial system enabling for consumer to adjust the timer activation of electromagnetic valve and thereby to adjust the mineral content based on consumers requirement and taste.
Details of equipment how the technologies used and converted to operating mechanism:
Experimental Setup:
Two Reverse osmosis water purification systems have same technical configuration was installed in a water source having 2600 mg/liter total dissolved solids and 189 mg/liter calcium and 238 mg/lit Magnesium level. Electronic membrane life enhancer was installed in one unit. Both units were operated on daily basis and same volume of water is passed through. Af1;er 3 months the membrane surface was analysed for calcium and magnesium deposition. Noticed 68-89% reduction in chemical deposition on the membrane with electronic membrane life enhancer compared to unit without electronic life enhancer. Also noticed drastic reduction of permeate flow (27-34 % reduction) in the unit without membrane life enhancer.

Permeate flow rate after 3 months Table -2
Second experiment with High TDS and high hardness water Test Method.
Two Reverse osmosis water purification systems have same technical configuration was installed in water source. Electronic membrane life enhancer was installed in one unit. Both are connected to the water source and the water is passed till the membrane gets chocked. When one of the membranes got choked, stopped the trial, cut open both the membrane element after drying. Cut small pieces from the membrane at different places, tested the TDS deposited in the membrane by gravimetric method and by extraction method. Total hardness and Calcium and Magnesium deposited also tested by EDTA method after extracting the salt deposited in the membrane. And finally TOS, Hardness, Calcium and Magnesium deposited per unit area of the membrane is checked.
