Abstract: The present invention relates to a water seal trap device for vessels with horizontal side inlet that can act as a barrier to protect the confined space of a vessels from foul odor and gases. The water seal trap maintains a constant water column of 150 mm irrespective of pipe sizes.
DESC:FIELD OF INVENTION:
[0001] The present invention generally relates to a sealing apparatus, and more particularly, a water seal trap device that can act as a barrier to protect the confined space of vessels from foul odor and gases.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION:
[0002] Large vessels or ship operations produce waste streams/drains related to piping systems as well as crew and passenger activities. The waste streams related to piping systems Waste streams related to humans on board include water from galleys and showers (grey water), as well as other solid waste.
[0003] There are prior arts available which discloses the use of vertical water seal traps. Vertical water seal traps are used in plumbing to prevent sewer gases from backing up into the home. They work by creating a water seal that blocks the gases. However, there are some drawbacks to using vertical water traps. They can be more difficult to install than horizontal water traps. This is because they need to be installed vertically, which can be more challenging in some areas of the home. They can be more prone to clogging than horizontal water traps. This is because the water seal is more likely to be disturbed in a vertical trap. They can be less effective at preventing sewer gases from backing up than horizontal water. This is because the water seal is not as deep in a vertical trap. They can be more expensive to install than horizontal water traps. They can be more difficult to access for maintenance and repair. They can be more likely to leak.
[0004] Ships generally use vertical inlet water seal traps, but due to a lack of space in a few compartments, especially machinery compartments, it is not possible to install vertical inlet water seal traps. Accordingly, there is a need of a horizontal inlet water seal trap device that can act as a barrier to protect the confined space of vessels from foul odor and gases that overcomes the above-mentioned drawbacks of the prior art.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION:
[0005] Accordingly, the present invention discloses a water seal trap device that can act as a barrier to protect the confined space of a ship from foul odor and gases. The water seal trap device is configured to maintain a constant water column of 150 mm irrespective of pipe sizes.
[0006] The water seal trap device comprises a trap box, an inlet pipe, an outlet pipe, a 90o elbow, a bottom flange, a gasket, a blind flange, an inlet flange, an outlet flange, and fasteners.
[0007] In an embodiment, the elbows are long radius type, the top plates and the flanges are made up of carbon steel, the gaskets made up of non-asbestos fiber, and zinc plated fasteners.
[0008] The water seal trap device comprises of material such as carbon steel, 90/10 CuNi, stainless steel, and copper.
[0009] In an embodiment, the inlet pipe is positioned in horizontal manner in order to fit into more confined space without affecting sealing criteria.
