Abstract: In accordance with the present invention, a wheel hub assembly for mounting a disc brake or drum brake assembly comprises a flange having an inner and outer portion concentrically aligned to each other said inner flange portion extending perpendicular to said outer flange portion; said outer flange portion comprising drum brake assembly mounting means, said inner flange portion comprising disc brake assembly mounting means, said disc brake mounting means including plurality of protrusions disposed perpendicularly on the surface of said inner flange portion. PREAMBLE TO THE DESCRIPTION
The following specification particularly describes the invention and the manner in which it is to be performed.


FIELD OF INVENTION
The invention is related to the wheel hub assembly for disc and drum brakes.
BACKGROUND OF INVENTION
Generally the disc brakes or drum brakes are used for the automotive application. The disc brake or drum brake requirement is dependent upon the performance of the vehicle, application requirements and choice of the customer. The mounting arrangement for disc and drum brake are provided on the wheel hub and stub axle of the front axle assembly. Since the construction features of disc and drum brake applications are different so generally different wheel hub and stub axle assembly are required to be developed separately to meet the mounting arrangement requirements of each disc and drum brakes. The development of wheel hub and stub axle assembly for disc and drum brakes separately increases the inventory and hence increases the over all cost.
The present invention addresses the above disadvantages of the prior art separate mounting arrangement requirements of both the disc and drum brakes and helps in reduction of inventory as all the parts of the front axle assembly remains common except the disc or drum brake assembly.
OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION
The main object of the present invention is to provide the novel wheel hub and stub axle for disc and drum brakes

Another object of the present invention is to provide the novel wheel hub and stub axle for disc and drum brakes which facilitates the mounting of disc and drum brakes interchangeably.
Another object of the present invention is to provide the novel wheel hub and stub axle for disc and drub brake which is simple in construction and cost effective.
SUMMARY OF INVENTION
The present invention discloses a wheel hub assembly for mounting a disc brake or drum brake assembly comprising a flange having an inner and outer portion concentrically aligned to each other said inner flange portion extending perpendicular to said outer flange portion; said outer flange portion comprising drum brake assembly mounting means, said inner flange portion comprising disc brake assembly mounting means, said disc brake mounting means including plurality of protrusions disposed perpendicularly on the surface of said inner flange portion.
The wheel hub and stub axle assembly for disc and drum brake comprises; disc brake assembly or drum brake assembly, wherein said disc brake assembly comprises; stub axle, wheel hub, adapter plate, disc brake assembly, disc mounting means and adaptor plate mounting means, said drum brake assembly comprises; stub axle, wheel hub, wheel rim, brake drum, wheel locking means, brake assembly and brake assembly mounting means wherein said wheel hub comprises; brake drum mounting means , disc brake mounting means such that disk brake assembly and drum brake assembly is interchangeably mounted on the wheel hub and stub axle of a vehicle. Said drum brake mounting means includes plurality of holes provided on the periphery of the said wheel hub. Said disc brake

mounting means includes plurality of protruded portions provided concentrically on the wheel hub assembly.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
Referring now to the drawings wherein the showings are for the purpose of
illustrating a preferred embodiment of the invention only, and not for the purpose
of limiting the same.
Now referring to figure-01 to 08, In accordance with the present invention, novel
wheel hub and stub axle assembly for disc and drum brake comprises;
disc brake assembly,
drum brake assembly,
wherein said disc brake assembly comprises; stub axle (1), wheel hub (2), adapter
plate (3) , disc brake (4), disc mounting means (5) and adaptor plate mounting
means (6), said drum brake assembly comprises; stub axle (7), wheel hub (8),
wheel rim (9) , brake drum (10), wheel locking means (11) , brake assembly (12)
and brake assembly mounting means (13)
wherein said wheel hub comprises; brake drum mounting means , disc brake
mounting means such that disc brake assembly and drum brake assembly is
interchangeably mounted on the wheel hub and stub axle of a vehicle.

The drum brake mounting means includes plurality of holes (14) provided on the periphery of the said wheel hub.
The disc brake mounting means includes plurality of protruded portions (15) provided concentrically on the wheel hub assembly.
The Wheel hub and stub axle assembly are designed in such a manner that both the disc and drum brake assembly can be fitted on the same wheel hub and stub axle as per the customer requirement.
Now referring to figure-01 and 02 which shows the disc brake assembly, the said disc brake assembly comprises; stub axle (1), wheel hub (2) , adaptor plate (3), disc brake (4) . The said adaptor plate (3) has been configured with an offset to create the space for said disc brake assembly (4) and is mounted on the said stub axle (1) with the help of mounting means bolts (6). The said disc brake (4) is mounted on the projections provided on the said wheel hub (2) with the help of mounting means bolts (5).
Now referring to figure-03, which shows the drum brake assembly. The said drum brake assembly comprises stub axle (7), wheel hub (8) , wheel rim (9), brake drum (10), wheel locking means (11) for locking wheel rim and brake drum assembly , brake assembly (12) and brake assembly mounting means (13) said brake assembly (12) is directly mounted on the said stub axle (7) through the mounting holes provided therein with the help of brake assembly mounting means (13) such as mounting bolts which are used for the mounting of said adaptor plate in case of disc brake assembly layout.
The said wheel hub (2) comprises geometrical projections and spigot diameter for mounting of the brake drum (10) and wheel rim (9) suitably so that it doesn't foul

with the said projections provided for disc brake mounting and wheel lock means (11) such as nuts are used for the mounting of said disc brake.
Referring to Figure-04 and 05, which shows the wheel hub, which comprises projections (14) provided concentric to or within perimeter of said plurality of holes (15). The said projections are provided for the mounting of said disc brake assembly.
The said wheel hub also comprises spigot diameter (16) and the mounting holes (15) which are used for the mounting of said drum brake assembly and it makes the design of wheel hub unique.
Now referring to figure-06 to 08 which shows the geometry of the adaptor phte developed in a unique manner which comprises holes (17) at the centre which are used for mounting with stub axle and the holes (18) at an offset (19) plane which are used for the mounting of caliper assembly.
Thus, the geometry of the wheel hub, stub axle and the mounting arrangement is designed in such a unique manner that both the disc and drum brake assembly can be packaged as per the customer requirements and help in reduction of inventory.
The foregoing description is a specific embodiment of the present invention. It should be appreciated that this embodiment is described for purpose of illustration only, and that numerous alterations and modifications may be practiced by those skilled in the art without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention. It is intended that all such modifications and alterations be included insofar as they corrie within the scope of the invention as claimed or the equivalents thereof.

WE CLAIM
1. A wheel hub assembly for mounting a disc brake or drum brake assembly
comprising a flange having an inner and outer portion concentrically aligned to
each other said inner flange portion extending perpendicular to said outer flange
portion;
said outer flange portion comprising drum brake assembly mounting means,
said inner flange portion comprising disc brake assembly mounting means, said disc brake mounting means including plurality of protrusions disposed perpendicularly on the surface of said inner flange portion.
2. The wheel hub assembly as claimed in claim 1, wherein said drum brake mounting means comprises plurality of apertures disposed circumferentially on the surface of said outer flange portion.
3. The wheel hub assembly as claimed in claim 1, wherein an adaptor plate is provided for mounting the disc brake assembly.
4. The wheel hub assembly as claimed in claim 3, wherein said adaptor plate is configured with an offset.
5. A disc brake or drum brake assembly mounted on said wheel hub assembly as herein described with reference to accompanying drawings.
