FIELD OF INVENTION:
[001] The present subject matter described herein, relates to a single arm
regulator assembly for a vehicle and, in particular, to a window regulator channel
having roller to improve assembly of the window glass with the single arm
regulator assembly.
BACKGROUND AND PRIOR ART:
[002] In automobile, there is a window lifting and lowering apparatus that is
10 used to open and close the window glass manually or electrically by a motor.
There are several type of window regulator, such as single arm, X arm, and cable
type window regulator. In the single arm type window regulator assembly,
window glass is pivoted on an arm connected to window glass by a window
regulator channel. A conventional single arm type window regulator assembly is
15 constructed by using a sector gear in the shape of a circular arc pivoted by being
brought into mesh with a pinion pivoted by a motor or the like. By pivoting an
arm connected to the sector gear along with the sector gear, window glass
connected to a front end of the arm can be moved in an up and down direction
along an opening portion of a window or the like of an automobile.
20 [003] Referring to figure 1, a conventional window regulator assembly 100 is
described. The single arm window regulator assembly 100 includes a regulator
arm 102 having a roller 103 which connects with window regulator channel for
sliding window glass. Further, the single arm window regulator assembly 100 has
shaft 101 that is connected with gear system to transfer rotatory force to uplift the
25 window.
[004] As shown in the figure 2, in conventional type of single arm regulator
design, the regulator assembly 100 is fixed with the glass 200 by rotating the glass
and inserting the window regulator channel in the roller of regulator arm.
However, if there is no partition glass in the rear door then rotation of glass inside
3
the inner panel is very difficult because of limited space and bigger glass size and
hence assembly of glass with regulator arm is difficult.
[005] Technical problem with existing single arm regulator assembly:
[006] Glass rotation is required to insert the window regulator channel in the
roller of regulator arm. This requires large amount of space inside the door pane5 l
which is very difficult to achieve in the vehicle having not partition glass.
[007] For designing of the vehicle, it becomes difficult to eliminate the partition
glass with single arm regulator type concept with the existing design.
[008] Glass assembly with single arm regulator is very difficult and take lot of
10 assembly time.
[009] Therefore, there is a need in the art to modify the structure of the window
regulator channel which can reduce assembly time of regulator arm with the glass
channel. Further, a single arm regulator assembly is required where there is no
requirement for rotating the glass for assembly.
15 [0010] In view of the above, it is beneficial to have a window regulator channel
which improves assembly of the glass without rotation.

[0038] In the present subject matter, single arm window regulator is described
without roller. In the present subject, the roller is made a part of the window
25 regulator channel and regulator arm has a mounting hole that is coupled with shaft
of the roller of the window regulator channel through nut and washer. During
assembly of the window glass without rotation of it, the window glass assembled
with the glass channel fix with the regulator arm with the help of nut and washer
which is tightened on the shaft of the roller.
8
[0039] Figure 3 illustrates structure of the single arm window regulator assembly
with window regulator channel, in accordance with an embodiment of the present
subject matter. The single arm window regulator assembly has a regulator arm
300 which is connected with the window regulator channel 404. The window
regulator channel 404 is a longitudinal channel which allows slide movement o5 f
arm regulator 300 via a roller 402 which can be circular or rectangular or any
other shape. As shown in the figure 3, the window regulator channel 404 is
attached with glass channel 403. The glass channel 403 is in U shape to receive
the glass. The window regulator channel 404 is provided with the roller 402 which
10 is connected with the regulator arm 300 through a nut 401.
[0040] Referring to figure 4, dis-assembled view of the single arm window
regulator assembly is shown. The glass channel 403 is welded on top surface 404d
of the window regulator channel 404. The window regulator channel 404 defines a
C-shaped cross-section that constituting a rolling track 404a along length. Further,
15 two stopping lugs 404b, 404c are spaced longitudinally apart along length of the
rolling track 404a and provided at the ends to avoid dis-assembly of roller 402
with the window regulator channel 404.
[0041] As shown in the figure 4 and 6, the roller 402 is positioned in the rolling
track 404a of the window regulator channel 404 and slides/rolls inside the rolling
20 track 404a. The roller 402 has a shaft 402a that projects forwardly away from the
rolling track 404a and emerges out from opening of the C-shaped cross section
channel. Further, the shaft 402a has external threads to receive a nut for assembly
with the regulator arm 300. During assembly of the regulator arm 300 with the
window regulator channel 404, the shaft 402a inserted in the mounting hole 301of
25 the regulator arm 300 and tightened by washer 405 and the nut 401 which may be
M6 nut in line with the shaft 402a and the assembled with the shaft (402a) of the
roller (402) through nut (401) and washer (405).
[0042] Referring to figure 5 which illustrates an assembled view of the single arm
30 window regulator assembly. As shown the U shaped glass channel 403 is welded
9
or attached by any known means on the window regulator channel 404. Figure 6
illustrate cross section along AA of figure 5. As shown in the figure 6, the glass
500 is fixed with the U shaped glass channel 403 (in the complete specification it
can be referred as glass channel or U shaped glass channel or window glass
channel) via rubber cushioning 406 to avoid slipping and to provide grip of 5 the
glass 500 with the U shaped glass channel 403. The U shaped glass channel 403 is
attached with the window regulator channel 404. As shown in the figure 6, base
surface 403a of the window glass channel 403 is attached/welded with upper
surface 404d of the window regulator channel 404. The roller 402 is provided
10 inside the rolling track 404a of the window regulator channel 404 that has the
shaft 402a which extend in forward direction away from the rolling track 404a and
receives the regulator arm 300 and joint of the regulator arm 300 and the shaft
402a is secured by the washer 405 and the nut 401. The shaft 402a may have
external threads to receive the nut 401 for securing the joint/assembly of the
15 regulator arm 300 and the roller 402. The roller 402 is integrated with the shaft
402a in such a way that there is a relative motion between them.
[0043] Assembly of the regulator arm 300 with the window regulator channel 404
having the window glass channel 403.
[0044] Referring to figure 7, which illustrate assembly of the single arm regulator
20 with the window regulator channel in inner panel of the vehicle. At the first step,
the single arm regulator 300 is fixed with inner panel 600 of the vehicle. In the
second step, the window glass 500 fixed with the window glass channel 403
which is attached with the window regulator channel 404 having the roller 402 is
inserted in the inner panel 600. In the third step, the shaft 402a of the roller 402 of
25 the window regulator channel 404 is aligned with mounting hole 301 of the
regulator arm 300 and the shaft 402a is inserted in the mounting hole 301 of the
regulator arm 300. When the shaft 402a enters inside the mounting hole 301 of the
regulator arm 300, there is no need to hold the glass 500. At the final step, the nut
401 that can be M6 nut is tighten on the shaft 402a with help of gun. Therefore, in
30 the present subject matter, the regulator arm 300 and the roller 402 is fixed with
10
each other without even rotating the glass 500 with minimum adjustment and
eventually reducing the assembly time.
[0045] With the present structure and dis-assembling roller with regulator arm,
the window glass can be easily assembled without rotation even in the vehicles
having not partition window. In the absence of the adequate space for rotation o5 f
glass in partition window less vehicles, cross-X type arm regulators are used
which increases the cost.
[0046] Further, technical advantages of the present invention are:
[0047] Lower Cost of Window Regulator with respect to existing Cross-X type
10 regulator.
[0048] First step is to fix regulator in inner panel and second step is glass
insertion in door inner panel is without rotation. This results in ease of assembly
and Reduction in Assembly time.
[0049] No rotation of regulator channel is possible in this design and no
15 adjustment is required during the glass and regulator assembly.
[0050] The term “vehicle” or “Automobile” as used throughout this detailed
description and in the claims refers to any moving vehicle that is capable of
carrying one or more human occupants or Goods and is powered by any form of
energy. The term “vehicle” is a motor vehicle which includes, but is not limited
20 to: cars, trucks, vans, minivans, hatchback, sedan, MUVs, and SUVs.
[0051] It will be understood by those within the art that, in general, terms used
herein, and especially in the appended claims (e.g., bodies of the appended
claims) are generally intended as “open” terms (e.g., the term “including” should
be interpreted as “including but not limited to,” the term “having” should be
25 interpreted as “having at least,” the term “includes” should be interpreted as
“includes but is not limited to,” etc.). It will be further understood by those within
the art that if a specific number of an introduced claim recitation is intended, such
an intent will be explicitly recited in the claim, and in the absence of such
recitation no such intent is present. For example, as an aid to understanding, the
11
following appended claims may contain usage of the introductory phrases “at least
one” and “one or more” to introduce claim recitations. However, the use of such
phrases should not be construed to imply that the introduction of a claim recitation
by the indefinite articles “a” or “an” limits any particular claim containing such
introduced claim recitation to inventions containing only one such recitation, eve5 n
when the same claim includes the introductory phrases “one or more” or “at least
one” and indefinite articles such as “a” or “an” (e.g., “a” and/or “an” should
typically be interpreted to mean “at least one” or “one or more”); the same holds
true for the use of definite articles used to introduce claim recitations. In addition,
10 even if a specific number of an introduced claim recitation is explicitly recited,
those skilled in the art will recognize that such recitation should typically be
interpreted to mean at least the recited number (e.g., the bare recitation of “two
recitations,” without other modifiers, typically means at least two recitations, or
two or more recitations). Furthermore, in those instances where a convention
15 analogous to “at least one of A, B, and C, etc.” is used, in general such a
construction is intended in the sense one having skill in the art would understand
the convention (e.g., “a system having at least one of A, B, and C” would include
but not be limited to systems that have A alone, B alone, C alone, A and B
together, A and C together, B and C together, and/or A, B, and C together, etc.).
20 In those instances where a convention analogous to “at least one of A, B, or C,
etc.” is used, in general such a construction is intended in the sense one having
skill in the art would understand the convention (e.g., “a system having at least
one of A, B, or C” would include but not be limited to systems that have A alone,
B alone, C alone, A and B together, A and C together, B and C together, and/or A,
25 B, and C together, etc.). It will be further understood by those within the art that
virtually any disjunctive word and/or phrase presenting two or more alternative
terms, whether in the description, claims, or drawings, should be understood to
contemplate the possibilities of including one of the terms, either of the terms, or
both terms. For example, the phrase “A or B” will be understood to include the
30 possibilities of “A” or “B” or “A and B.”
12
