Abstract: A process for the preparation of crystalline form-N2 of 5-chloro-N4-[2-[(l-methylethyl) sulfonyl]phenyl] -N2- [5-methyl-2-(l -methylethoxy)-4-(4-piperidinyl)phenyl] -2,4- pyrimidinediamine acetic acid salt compound of formula-1b, comprising of the following steps: A a) Adding acetone to 5-chloro-N4-[2-[(1-methy1ethyl)sulfonyl]phenyl]-N2-[5-methy1-2- (1~methylethoxy)-4-(4-‘piperidinyl)phenyl]-2,4-pyrimidinediamine compound of formula-1 i b) adding a mixture of acetone and acetic acid to the reaction mixture, c) stirring the reaction mixture, d) filtering the solid" to get the crystalline form-N2 of 5-chloro-N4—[2-[(1-methylethyl) sulfonyl]pheny1]-N2-[5-methyl—2-(1-methylethoxy)-4—(4-piperidinyl)phenyl]~2,4- pyrimidinediamine acetic acid salt compound of formula-1b.
