Abstract: Acoustic experiments has revealed that aero acoustic noise generated from the external fan (3) is the dominant source of motor noise. External fan (3) is located inside a rectangular plenum chamber (5). In the original design of the motor (1) there is a silencer at the inlet of plenum chamber air entry cutout (22) and further reduction of noise only be possible by acoustic treatment of plenum chamber (5). To meet this objective, novel acoustic absorption material (25) is pasted at the inner surface of the plenum chamber (5) using adhesive and further secured by using wire mesh (24). Number of blades in the fan (3) is increased from nine to eleven such that used acoustic absorption material (25) becomes effective in produced noise frequency range. Fan blade redesigned from straight type to curve type with change in fan blade outer angle while flow rate is kept same. Thickness of the used MPSR variant R45+04 (25) is optimized within range 10-20 mm.
