1. Aggregation device (e.g., 12, 200, 208, 202, 210, 212) for a system comprising the aggregation device
and at least one other audio video apparatus (12, 200, 208, 202, 210, 212) communicating with the
aggregation device, the aggregation device comprising:
processor (18) configured to, determine (202) that at least one licensable component of the audio video apparatus requires activation; and responsive to the determination that the licensable component requires activation, communicate (204) to a server (206) using a network (204) that a license event has occurred, wherein the processor (18) determines that at least one licensable component of the audio video apparatus requires activation by inference based on a format of data received from the audio video apparatus.
2. The aggregation device as claimed in claim 1, wherein the processor (18) determines that at least one
licensable component of the audio video apparatus requires activation at least in part by receiving from the
audio video apparatus an identification of the licensable component.
3. The aggregation device as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the aggregation device receives information
from the audio video apparatus indicating the audio video apparatus has already enabled the licensable
component and based thereon, informs the server (206) of the license event.
4. The aggregation device as claimed in claim 1, wherein the aggregation device receives information from the audio video apparatus indicating that the audio video apparatus requests activation of the licensable component and based thereon informs the server (206) of the license event.
5. The aggregation device as claimed in claim 1, wherein the aggregation device informs the server (206) of the license event immediately upon establishing a network connection with the network.
6. The aggregation device as claimed in claim 1, wherein the aggregation device informs the server (206) of the license event after a predetermined period of quiescent time.

7. The aggregation device as claimed in claim 1, wherein the aggregation device communicates to the server (206) using the network that the license event has occurred along with an identification of the aggregation device only.
8. The aggregation device as claimed in claim 1, wherein the aggregation device communicates to the server (206) using the network that the license event has occurred along with an identification of the audio video apparatus.
9. A TV (12, 200) in a home network, the TV comprising: a TV tuner (16);
at least one of: an ATSC demodulator (58), NTSC demodulator (54), QAM demodulator (56), MPEG decoder (62), no licenses having been obtained on behalf of the TV for the tuner (16) or demodulators) (58, 54, 56); and
a display (28) presenting audio video content thereon in accordance with high definition content protection (HDCP), a license for HDCP having been obtained on behalf of the TV.
