Abstract: An adapter for installing a monument or console to aircraft cabin seat rail is provided. The adapter is attached to the seat rail which can be removed when required. The optimized adapter consists of multiple light weight and ergonomically designed brackets and multiple tubes with different cross-section. The brackets have one base, two parallel walls and flange with multiple lips. These brackets of adapter have receiving slots on top planer surface of brackets for installation of. monument on it. These brackets of adapter also have receiving slots in longitudinal.and lateral.directions for connecting tubes to meet interchangeability (ICY) requirements for the installation of a monument on seat rail of an aircraft. The height of four brackets of adapter is attuned to meet ergonomically requirements of monument & for operator comfort.
Normally, monument or Console or highly loaded structure equipped with line replaceable
units (LRU's) of avionic system is installed directly inside cabin between seat rails of
aircraft floor and using an adapter in single piece to match the interchangeable mounting
points of monument.
In cases where, it is not possible to directly mount the monument or Console or any other
loaded structure element jn between cabin seat rails due to difference in console
interchangeable mountings points and/or lack of ergonomic requirements of monument
for operators comfort. Then requirement of an adapter arises to overcome this difficulty.
US Pat. No. 5083726 and the references cited therein, disclose various fitting used to
removable secure an airplane seat within a track mounted to the floor of aircraft. In such
devices factors must have been considered include very high load which must be
sustained. Further U.S. Patent No. 5520357 discloses a fitting for attaching a galley or
bulkhead to the interior of the aircraft. The fitting employs separable attachment plate and
a bolt. The bolt serves to link the galley to the floor through the attaching part, a track
affixed to the floor. Also, U.S. Patent No. US210/0314494A1 disclose an adapter plate
for interconnecting of a device with an airplane structure,
Modifications to airplane structure is strictly regulated by aviation safety agencies such
as EASA in Europe and FAA in the USA and according manuals provided by the
manufacturers of the vessels.
Adapter is required to be designed for critical Ultimate emergency landing crash condition
loads (nx=18g) due to inertia of monument as per FAR 23 requirement for the occupant
safety and structural integrity to ^maintain the continued airworthiness. The proposed.
structure must be as light weight as possible to not hamper the payload capability of the
airplane aircraft structure. The local modification of the proposed adapter should not
influence the stiffness and load path of the aircraft.
Therefore it would be beneficial to have a solution to overcome the above mentioned
problems. A further object of this invention is to provide an optimized and light-weight
load carrying adapter which does not influence the structural integrity of airframe structure
due to change in load path in adverse manner.

2. OBJECT OF THE INVENTION:
The principal object of this invention is to design a light-weight & optimised adapter
comprising of plurality of brackets and plurality of connecting members instead of single
piece to sustain higher loads produced due to installation of a monument or console or
any other highly loaded structure elements to aircraft cabin floor which does not influence
the structural integrity of airframe structure.
Another object of this invention is to design an adapter to fulfil the interchangeability (ICY)
requirements of monument & to cater ergdnomic requirement of monument for operator
comfort as per Military Standard.
3. SUMMARY OF INVENTION:
The problem described above is solved by a light-weight and optimized adapter which
can withstand the crash loads due to monument or console or any structure element for
structural integrity and also meets the interchangeability and ergonomics requirements
for easy installation or removal of console or monument or any loaded structure member.
An optimized adapter has been invented which is used to locate and mounting of Console
or monument or any other structure element and ensure alignment of Console on Cabin
floor seat rails of the aircraft. Adapter is designed in multi light weight parts instead of a
single piece for ease of manufacturing and cost effectiveness. Adapter in single piece will
result in increased weight of adapter, manufacturing cost and poor maintainability.
Brackets & tubes of adapter is constructed of lightweight aluminium alloy. The designed
adapter is of optimized weight and meets the structural integrity requirements for the
occupant safety & ergopomic requirements for operator's comforts.
The brackets of adapter have one base, two parallel walls and flange with multiple lips.
The brackets of adapter are. having multiple receiving slots for interconnecting of tubes in
lateral and longitudinal direction.
Adapter inherits interchangeability feature, replaceable from one aircraft to another.
Installation and removal of adapter does not required any change in the basic structure
of the aircraft. The adapter can be mounted anywhere in the cabin of the aircraft.
The adapter of the invention is disclosed herein in connection with certain embodiments
for the Dornier DO-228 aircraft, although the principal according to the invention will apply
to other aircraft without much modifications or variation considered within the scope of
the claims of this invention.

4. DESCRIPTION OF INVENTION:
Adapter is comprising of plurality of brackets assembled with plurality of connecting
members using receiving slots'of brackets. '
Fig-1 shows perspective view of adapter (1) for installation of monument or Console on
seat rail floor of an aircraft.
Fig-2 shows the Top view of adapter (1) for installation of monument or Console.
Fig-3 shows the side view of adapter (1) for installation of monument or Console.
Fig-4. Shows the exploded view of the different components of adapter (1).
Adapter (1) for installation of monument or Console or any other loaded structure is
comprising of brackets (2, 3, 4, 5) and rectangular tubes (6, 7) and square tubes (8, 9).
Connecting members (6, 7, 8, 9) are made of different lengths and cross-section as
shown in Fig-2. All the brackets (2, 3, 4, 5) of adapter (1) are principal load carrying
members and made of aluminium alloys of higher strength for carrying crash loads
produced due to inertia of monument to attain the optimised design. Connecting members
like tubes (6, 7, 8, 9) also are also made of aluminium alloys and are acting as means for
distribution of loads from brackets (2, 3, 4, 5) to cabin floor seat rail attachment.
The bracket (2) of adapter (1) is symmetrical to bracket (3). The bracket (4) of adapter
(1) is symmetrical to bracket (5). Each Brackets (2, 3, 4, 5) of adapter (1) are having one
mounting hole. This mounting holes are used to install the adapter onto the seat rail inside
the cabin an aircraft using fasteners e.g. peg, retainer and Nut.
Planer surface (10, 11, 12, 13) of brackets (2, 3, 4, 5) to install the monument to avoid
any unwanted loads and moments transferring to seat rails from monument centre of
gravity through adapter (1) as depicted in Fig.-2.
Slots (14,15,16,17) have been provided on brackets (2, 3, 4, 5) respectively of adapter
(1) for installing the monument and to sustain and transferring the heavy loads from
monument to seat rails through adapter (1) as depicted in Fig.-4.
Extended slots (18, 19, 20, 21) on top side of brackets (2,3,4,5) respectively of adapter
& internal slots (22,23,24,25) on bottom side in longitudinal direction have been
introduced on adapter (1) to sustain and transferring the loads in longitudinal directions
from monument to seat rails through adapter (1) as depicted in Fig.-4.
