Abstract: Air combat maneuvering Instrument pods plays a vital role in capturing/recording flight envelope of fighter/trainer aircraft in typical combat scenario. The recorded data are used for real time / post flight analysis. The post flight data analysis requires various data from different equipment"s; in this case all these instruments are encased in a shell. Attaching this pod into the aircraft is a challenging task, because this pod is in the shape of a missile and the missiles were commonly attached to the aircraft by launchers.ie attaching these pod to an aircraft is possible only when there is compatibility between aircraft launcher and pod. In aircraft only one or two stations are available for missiles. So installations of Air combat maneuvering instrument pod become a difficult task without any new inventions. The newly invented adaptor is unique in design, which caters all the needs of air combat maneuvering instrument pod integration to the aircraft. The adaptor enables air combat instrument adaptation under the wing and fuselage stations of Fighter or Trainer aircrafts like regular stores under NATO 14"suspension system. The adaptor gives additional flexibility to carry representative missiles under wing or fuselage of Fighter / Trainer aircrafts like regular stores under NATO 14"suspension system for flight test trials.
1. Title of the invention
Adaptor for Air combat maneuvering Instrument pod for fighter and trainer aircraft
2. Field of invention
It is a mechanically engineered structural design used for carrying either air combat maneuvering instrument pod or representative missile in a single structure for flight data analysis.
3. Use of invention
This invented adaptor enables carriage of either air combat maneuvering instrument pod or representative missile under the wing or fuselage stations of Fighter / Trainer aircrafts like regular stores under NATO 14"suspension system.
4. Prior art
This invention is done for the first time and unique in nature.
5. Draw backs of prior art
No prior art available.
6. Comparison between prior art and present invention
Not applicable
7. Aim of the invention
This invention is a simple and effective methodology to install Air Combat Maneuvering Instrument pod in a fighter/trainer aircraft.
8. Summary of the present invention
a) Adaptor enables to carry Air Combat Maneuvering Instrument pod or representative missile under wing or fuselage stations of Fighter / Trainer aircrafts like regular stores.
b) The adaptor is aerodynamically designed to minimize the drag. The structure is designed for the loads acting on it during flight trials.
c) The adaptor is designed to carry air combat maneuvering instrument pod/representative missile shell in one case based on the flight trials requirement.
d) The design of adaptor helps in easy loading and unloading of Air combat Instrument pod/missile shell in ground.
e) The adaptor is designed for zero maintenance.
9. Brief description of drawings
Fig-1 shows the view of the Adaptor which indicates the major structures.
Fig-2 shows the attachment details.
Fig-3 shows the air combat maneuvering instrument pod attachment details.
10. Statement of invention
This invented adaptor works as a structural interface between the air combat maneuvering instrument or representative missile and aircraft. It gives additional flexibility in mounting under the wing / fuselage of Fighter / Trainer aircrafts like regular stores.
11. Detailed description of invention
The unit consists of an Adaptor Housing (1), bottom bracket (2), strap assembly (3), attachment lugs (4), and attachment bolts {5 & 6).The strap assembly consists of bottom bracket, top bracket and a strap. There are four strap assembles. The strap assemblies are attached to the adaptor housing through the attachment bolts (5). The assembly is converted as a housing assembly, the bottom portion of the strap assembly is ready to receive the air combat instruments or missile shell and are secured by the attachment bolts at the bottom bracket. The structural capsule is compatible with NATO standard, and it is ready to install under the aircraft attachment points.
Claims
