FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to an adjustable bicycle stem that allows the riders of a bicycle to adjust the stem to variable length. More particularly, the present invention relates to an adjustable bicycle stem that helps the riders in a growth age to adjust the posture and reach in the bicycle.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
A bicycle or bike is a small, human powered land vehicle which is an important way to travel in different parts of the world. It is one of the most important resources of travelling used by the people of every generation. All age group people have their some basic requirements while riding the bicycle. Therefore to suit the physical attribute of human bodies, different sizes of handlebar stems are manufactured accordingly. Previously, bicycles are manufactured with the stem holding the handlebar in a fixed position with respect to the frame which is not suitable for all types of riders. Maintaining the body position required with this type of bicycle may be uncomfortable during the course of a long ride. Also, they are disadvantageous in that they force bicycle rider to make choice of one stem to fit in all riding conditions such as uphill, downhill, urban area etc. Riders in the growing age had also problem in adjusting the posture and reach in the bicycle as they grow in size. It becomes difficult to use the bike for longer duration of time. So there is requirement of an adjustable stem which allows the young adults to adjust the stem according to their age and body size. In recent years many different types of adjustable handlebars are developed so that the rider had a comfortable ride.
US2015/0344098Al discloses a bicycle stem which has been developed with features that allow quick and easy adjustment of the distance between the handlebar and the shaft of
the steering fork of the bicycle of application. It comprises a bar having at one end a clamp for securing on the tube shaft of the steering fork of the bicycle, a fastener which is associated with a clamp for engaging the handlebar sliding on said bar, including a locking system for fixing the sliding fastener in selective positions along the bar. The user can therefore modify the position of the handlebar by simply releasing the retention of the sliding fastener on the bar of the stem and moving said siding fastener engaged with the handlebar to its new position on the bar of the stem, locking it again in the new position. The drawback of this type of stem is that locking is provided by means of a key which goes through the sliding fastener and can be selectively inserted in a set of holes made on the bar of the stem.
US20150225035Al discloses a bicycle stem, which is adapted to be mounted between a handlebar and a steering tube of a bicycle, includes a body and a clamping member. The body has a clamping end and a connecting end where the connecting end of the body has a through hole for accommodating the steering tube. The body defines a pair of sliding grooves on a top thereof. The clamping member has a hook grip portion and a blade portion extending from one end of the hook grip portion. The blade portion of the clamping member has a pair of sliding protrusions formed on a bottom and slid into the sliding grooves of the body so that the clamping member is slidably mounted to the body. Under this arrangement, the hook grip portion of the clamping member cooperates with the clamping end of the body to clamp the handlebar which is one of the drawbacks in adjusting the handlebar.
Therefore, there is a need of an improvement in the design of the adjustable stem of bicycle to overcome the disadvantages described in the above mentioned stated art and to provide a safe, smooth way of adjusting the stem in the handlebar of the bike so that the young adults in the growing age can adjust their posture and reach in the bike. Thus the bike can be used for longer duration of time. Also people need not to buy a new bike at
each stage of their child growth which makes the adjustable stem a cost effective technology.
