Adjustable Tapered Vice

Abstract: The typical vices like bench vice are generally used for holding the flat work piece and pipe vice for holding the diametrical jobs. In the existing machine vice the lead screw will tend to undergo frequent wear and tear due to abrasion resistance problem as a result jaws of vice lose its grip to hold the work component. In our invention dowel pin type with movable jaw was preferred in order to overcome the problems encountered in conventional jaws. 5 claims & 1 figure

This invention is mainly used for holding the flat and taper work piece/object for performing any machining operations.
Background of the Invention
There are several vices which are used in medium and small scale industry, the sole purpose of the vice is to hold the object very rigidly so that while in operation the work piece cannot move for acquiring desired result from it, there are several operations can be perform using the vice as a holding medium, in general the drilling of small object need to stay rigidly so that smoothly operation can be done and commonly used holding object vice can be used. There are several types of vice like bench vice, pipe vice, Tool Makers Vice, Pin Vice. Leg Vice. Hand Vice. Drill vice and etc.
The vast used vices in the small scale and medium scale industry is the bench vice which has two jaws with one movable jaw, the work piece can be intermittent between the jaw while holding position so that work piece cannot move in other direction which can cause damage to the material upon which are working on it, here the vice is made up of cast iron which is a hard material whose carbon percentage is higher comparatively to the other steel material, there are some of the factor should be taken into considered while picking the vice they are, the dimension of the vice, weight of the vice, holding dimension length*width.
There are some of machine which has some of inbuilt jaws like lathe machine which is configured with the 3-jaw vice or else 4-jaw vice, for using in different occasion, here the 3-jaw vice is intermediate connected with each other, if one jaw is moved accordingly other two will move simultaneous for maintaining the correct and centric position for the operation and higher precision product, whereas the 4-jaw vice is a independently movable used for fitting the irregular object in a centric manner by adjusting the way to other, there are some of other vice which are used in different purpose like pipe vice can be used for holding the circular structure or any diametrically object in order to perform the operation, whereas the vice used for holding the various angle structure or any taper object needed to be dig=signed for the specially object which can be costlier process and time taking too where the operation cannot be performed by using the typical vice which cannot hold various structure.
Accordingly there is a need for the hours to make the vice which can hold the flat and even taper object which cannot be possible by using the above vices; the present invention solves the above problem which can be used for flat and taper object as well. Work Holding devices are existing from early days, for instance EP0364728A1 The lifting clamp has a clamp body which delimits a load-receiving space and which has two mutually opposite jaws, of which at least the one jaw can be moved in a path of movement towards or away from the other inside the load-receiving space by means of a device, the device being formed from an at least two-part spindle.
Even in US8517366B2 a quick release vise includes a first and second jaw moveable relative to the first jaw, and a threaded shaft rotatable fixed to the second jaw. A shaft receiver is fixed relative to the first jaw and includes a boss and a boss cover that is moveable relative to the boss. The boss and the boss cover have channels which cooperatively define an at least partially threaded shaft-receiving bore. The boss cover is moveable between a first positions wherein the threads of the shaft engage threads within the shaft-receiving bore, and a second position wherein the threads of the shaft are disengaged from the threads within the shaft-receiving bore.
In US26266A, this invention consists of a provision whereby the workman is enabled greatly to increase the grip or bite of the jaws for the work piece. In US8833209B2, A self-energizing and de-energizing adjustable gripping tool for engaging a work piece to impart work thereto includes a first element and second element connected for relative movement. The second element includes an actuation portion having a plurality of slots. The first element includes gripping elements which are each associated with a force transfer element which engages one of the slots such that movement of the second element relative to the first element actuates the gripping elements to engage the work piece.
This particular machine vice is portable as it weighs very light, and also be provided for swiveling the two jaws of the vise so that the work piece can be held in a variety of positions relative to the base. This Vice is very much suitable to for holding parts, which cannot be clamped with flat jaws as in normal bench vice.
Summary of the Invention
In particular to the above limitation of holding only flat object in the vice, our invention solve the particular need which can hold the taper object as well
The other objective of the invention is to design the vice which reduces the complexity and weight of the vices too.
Moreover the light weight vices can be easily transported unlike other heavy vices in general used in typical workshops.
Brief Description of Drawings
The invention will be described in detail with reference to the exemplary embodiments shown in the figures wherein:

Detailed Description of the Invention
The present invention is used for holding the object not only flat but also taper one which can be used in small and medium scale industries as well, the designing of the PHANI BABU’s TAPERED VICE using three criteria, whereas weight-less vice which can be easily transported; lower parts make the design very simple unlike other vice uses several part and heavy material to build it; it can be used at multiple angle in a particular axis, Unlike the bench vice which only holds the flat objects. The part (1) which is called as Jaws, which is situated above the sliding base, there are two jaws which are independently movable which holds grip in attaching the various object unlike flat surface, the typical bench vice has only one jaw movable while the other jaw as a rigidly fixed on other end, Whereas the screw is provided for moving the jaw in the same axis of it.
In this Invention, the two jaws are independently movable and can be adjust with the bolt attached to it, to a particular angular position. The jaws are provided with Knurling, so as to provide grip for holding the object tightly. For providing this Knurling, a knurling tool can be used. The eye-bolt part(3) which is used for moving the jaws inline, there are for bolt at four end for giving the direction needed to move according to the required holding object or as per desired operation can be performed to it. The eye-bolt are provided with screw threads and are driven manually, where the jaws which is in C-section has a metal rod for attaching the eye in it for holding, if the bolt is rotated at particular end the jaw is moved in a particular angle, if the both bolts are simultaneously rotated then jaw is moved in a same axis of given path.
The sliding base which is part (2) situated below the jaws is provided for moving of jaws inline and giving the smooth sliding edge which can be used for holding the objects, the sliding base is usually made of light weight material with higher finishing edge so that the sliding can be performed easily without any struck or being tight or cannot slid further in between. For providing more smoothening or sliding for the material an external lubrication can be used like grease or any oil for smooth sliding between the ends for the jaws.
In the sliding base we can provide long hallow Sleeves so that the total weight can be reduced, thorough which the whole mass of the proposed vice can be drastically reduced and can be carried away very easily. The part(4) is the base which play an important role in the vice which has multiple function mainly for absorbing the vibration, holding the parts of vices, stabilizing the whole vice. The base which is situated in the bottom of the vice has maximum of weight in particular comparatively to the other parts of the vices. The part(5) is the rod which is attached to the jaw for holding it using the eye bolt which can be used for sliding the jaw at an angle needed when bolt is rotated from the end for adjusting the jaws in particular to holding of the object which is required for obtaining the desired operation from it.
Here the invention used in the small and medium scale industries where the functional uses of holding flat and taper object with the vice which can overcome the limitation of the earlier conventional vices like bench vice, pipe vice, Tool Makers Vice, Pin Vice, Leg Vice, Hand Vice. Drill vice etc. used in the workshop / shop floor can be eliminated.
