[001] The present subject matter described herein, relates to an exhaust pipe system in vehicle, and, in particular, to an adjustable hanger bracket structure to mount the exhaust pipe system underside body of the vehicle.
BACKGROUND AND PRIOR ART:
[002] Generally, an exhaust pipe extends from an engine and a muffler is connected to rear end of the exhaust pipe system. The exhaust pipe system includes muffler and exhaust pipe. The exhaust pipe has opening at rear side of the vehicle. The muffler is a silencer which reduces the noise created by exhaust of internal combustion engine. The exhaust pipe is long in length from the engine to rear end of the vehicle. The exhaust pipe system is mounted on the underside body frame of the vehicle by way of vibration damping devices to dampen the vibrations created by the engine. Further, the vibration damping devices restricts the transmission of the vibration from the exhaust pipe system to the body of the vehicle. The vibration damping devices are disposed intermediate between the brackets provided on the vehicle underside body and the exhaust pipe system. In order to prevent the vibrations completely, mounting brackets provided at various locations in the exhaust pipe system. The exhaust pipe system is fixed by hangers at a plurality of positions under the vehicle body. The hangers are provided to support the exhaust pipe and to absorb vibrations of the exhaust pipe which is generated when vehicle is in moving condition.
[003] Fig. 1a and 1b illustrate support mounting structure for the exhaust pipe system as known in the art. Fig. 1a illustrates the exhaust pipe system 100 which has exhaust pipe and muffler. The exhaust pipe system 100 is mounted on underside body of the vehicle at plurality of locations to damp the vibrations generated by the vehicle movement and engine. The exhaust pipe system 100 is mounted on the underside body of the vehicle by a plurality of support mounting structures or hangers or brackets, 102, 104, and 105. The plurality of support mounting structures is welded on the exhaust pipe along its length. Similarly, the underside of the vehicle body has correspondingly a plurality of support mounting structures. The plurality of support mounting structures of exhaust pipe system engages with the plurality of support mounting structures of the underside body of the vehicle. Further, a vibration damping device or resilient device made of rubber is interposed between the support mounting structure of exhaust pipe system and the support mounting structure of the underside body of the vehicle to dampen the vibrations. The supporting mounting structure 102 is simple straight pipe structure which is welded at the exhaust pipe from one end and other end is engaged with the vibration damping device.
[004] Each exhaust pipe system has special and specific configuration for the support mounting structures with the underside body of the vehicle. When a new engine is combined with the vehicle or different transmission type is combined and for each new development in the vehicle engine or transmission or body, position of the exhaust pipe with the underside body mounting brackets of the vehicle changes. Therefore, every time during testing of prototype a new part is required to be manufactured for all new iterations in the test. Requirement of new part as an individual piece for testing increases the cost and further delays the test results. For all new iteration of the test a fresh set of exhaust system needs to be manufactured which is costly as well as time consuming. This also leads to high wastage of material due to fresh manufacturing of the exhaust pipe system parts.
[005] Japanese Patent JP11301288A discloses a vehicle body is provided with a vehicle body side bracket, and an exhaust pipe 1 is provided with an exhaust side bracket. The vehicle body side bracket and the exhaust side bracket are connected by hanger rubber. In such exhaust system member support structure, the exhaust side bracket is divided in a first exhaust side bracket 4 and a second exhaust side bracket 5a, and these divided exhaust side brackets 4, 5a are connected to each other by a floating member 6 comprising vertically disposed floating rubber 10, 12, the first exhaust side bracket 4 supported between the floating rubber 10, 12, and the second exhaust side bracket 5a fitted to the lower part of the floating rubber 12. These floating rubber contact plate 9, 10, 1 first exhaust side of bracket 4, 12 and L-shaped bracket 11 at a substantially central portion of a hole 13 is drilled. A collar 14 is inserted into the hole 13, the inside of the collar 14 by a bolt 15 is inserted, the bolt 15 by a nut 16 is screwed, and clamping the 10 is 12, this collar 14 by suitably changing the length, of the floating member 6 by fastening a bolt 15 can be adjusted. Furthermore, the L-shaped bracket 11 is, by means of welding or the like idioms 2 joined to the exhaust side of the bracket body 5a, therefore, the first and second exhaust-side bracket 4 1 2 of the exhaust side of the bracket body 5a and almost the same as the height.
[006] Though the Japanese prior art provide support to the exhaust pipe and adjust the relative positions as they are intended for, but each has its own drawbacks and limitations. The disadvantage in the Japanese Patent is that during friction between two rubber parts, the rubber parts may get broke down. Further, the relative position of in the exhaust mounting structure and vehicle body is very limited. Therefore, the known systems do not provide degree of freedom in position for adjusting the same exhaust pipe system in all new prototype of vehicle. Further, the known systems are costly and have multiple parts which make the structure complex. Therefore, a simple, inexpensive, and effective universal mounting structure to mount the exhaust pipe system on the underside body of the vehicle.
