1. A system for providing library reference services using artificial intelligence (AI) and chatbots, the system comprising: an AI engine configured to receive user inquiries and generate responses based on a database of knowledge; a chatbot module configured to facilitate communication between the user and the AI engine; a library reference database containing a collection of library-related information; and a user interface for displaying responses generated by the AI engine and facilitating communication with the chatbot.

2. The system of claim 1, wherein the AI engine utilizes machine learning algorithms to improve the accuracy and relevance of responses over time.

3. The system of claim 1, further comprising a knowledge management module for updating and maintaining the database of knowledge used by the AI engine.

4. The system of claim 1, wherein the user interface includes a voice-enabled chatbot for providing assistance to visually impaired or otherwise disabled users.

5. The system of claim 1, wherein the AI engine is configured to recognize user intent and provide personalized recommendations based on the user's previous interactions with the system.

6. The system of claim 1, wherein the library reference database is continuously updated with new information to ensure the accuracy and relevance of responses provided by the AI engine.

A method for providing library reference services using AI and chatbots, the method comprising: receiving a user inquiry through a chatbot interface; using an AI engine to generate a response based on the user inquiry and a database of knowledge; displaying the generated response to the user through the chatbot interface; determining if the user is satisfied with the response; providing additional information or alternative responses until the user is satisfied, if the user is not satisfied; and updating the database of knowledge based on user feedback.

8. The method of claim 7, wherein the user inquiry is received through a variety of channels including text-based chatbots, voice-enabled assistants, or mobile applications.

9. The method of claim 7, wherein the AI engine utilizes natural language processing (NLP) techniques to understand the user inquiry and generate a relevant response.

The method of claim 7, wherein the database of knowledge used by the AI engine includes information from a variety of sources, including library catalogs, research databases, and other online resources. Description:AI AND CHATBOTS FOR LIBRARY REFERENCE SERVICES
Field of the Invention
[0001] The present invention relates to library reference services, and in particular, to a system and method for providing personalized reference services to library users using AI and chatbots.
Background
[0002] The background description includes information that may be useful in understanding the present invention. It is not an admission that any of the information provided herein is prior art or relevant to the presently claimed invention, or that any publication specifically or implicitly referenced is prior art.
[0003] Reference services are an important component of library services, providing assistance to users in locating information resources and answering questions. Traditionally, reference services have been provided by reference librarians who are available to assist users in person, via telephone, or by email. However, with the increasing use of technology, many libraries have implemented online reference services, such as chat and email reference, to meet the needs of users who prefer to use digital channels.
[0004] Despite the availability of online reference services, many library users still find it challenging to locate the information they need. This is due, in part, to the vast amount of information available on the internet, which can be overwhelming to navigate. Additionally, users may have difficulty articulating their information needs or may not know how to effectively search for information.
[0005] There have been various attempts to improve library reference services through the use of technology. For example, some libraries have implemented virtual reference desks, which are web-based portals that provide users with access to reference librarians via chat, email, or video conferencing. Other libraries have developed online tutorials and research guides to help users learn how to conduct effective research. Few of the prior arts are listed below.

A message from the user comprises a user identifier and a text communication. The communication is compared to each tag in each set of tags in a plurality of sets of tags, each set of tags being uniquely associated with (i) a different chatbot in one or more chatbots associated with the sub-channel or (ii) a different node within a plurality of nodes in a chatbot. The communication is routed to a first chatbot in the one or more chatbots, or a first node within the first chatbot, on the basis of being associated with a tag that best matches the communication. A responsive message by the first chatbot within the sub-channel includes the user identifier, thereby facilitating a conversation between the user and an enterprise data source associated with the sub-channel.

Techniques can be used to automatically generate a machine learning system to assist a user. In some cases, the user may not be a software developer and may have little or no experience in either machine learning techniques or software programming. In some embodiments, a user can interact with an intelligent assistant. The interaction can be aural, textual, or through a graphical user interface. The chatbot can translate natural language inputs into a structural representation of a machine learning solution using an ontology. In this way, a user can work with artificial intelligence without being a data scientist to develop, train, refine, and compile machine learning models as stand-alone executable code.

An oral communication device and a data enablement platform are provided for ingesting oral conversational data from people, and using machine learning to provide intelligence. At the front end, an oral conversational bot, or chatbot, interacts with a user. The chatbot is specific to a customized digital magazine, which both evolve over time to a user for a given topic. On the backend, the data enablement platform has a computing architecture that ingests data from various external data sources as well as data from internal applications and databases. These data and algorithms are applied to surface new data, identify trends, provide recommendations, infer new understanding, predict actions and events, and automatically act on this computed information. The chatbot then reads out the content to the user.
[0009] Despite these efforts, there is still a need for a more personalized approach to reference services that can help users navigate the vast amount of information available and find the resources that best meet their needs. This is particularly important in academic libraries, where students and faculty require specialized research assistance.
[00010] Therefore, there is a need for a system and method for providing personalized reference services to library users that can help them locate the information they need more efficiently and effectively.

1. A system for providing library reference services using artificial intelligence (AI) and chatbots, the system comprising:
an AI engine configured to receive user inquiries and generate responses based on a database of knowledge;
a chatbot module configured to facilitate communication between the user and the AI engine;
a library reference database containing a collection of library-related information; and
a user interface for displaying responses generated by the AI engine and facilitating communication with the chatbot.
