The present invention generally relates to the field of personal protective and specialized bodysuit.
More particularly, the present invention provides a novel air cooled and breathable single piece
bodysuit which can be donned On and Off by self without assistance from others. This bodysuit is
5 intended to prevent health-workers, chemists, factory workers, soldiers, miners and security
person from exposure of micro-organisms
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
Personal protective and specialized bodysuits are also called PPE kits. This is actually in the form of
10 wearable and disposable garment that can be used by doctors, health-workers, chemists, factory
workers, soldiers and miners to save themselves from the exposure of micro-organisms.
The terms PPE kit and Bodysuit are used in the present invention imply the same and are used
alternatively for further description of the present invention.
According to a publication titled Chemical and Biological Terrorism: Research and Development to
15 Improve Civilian Medical Response by Institute of Medicine (US) Committee on R&D Needs for Improving
Civilian Medical Response to Chemical and Biological Terrorism Incidents, Washington (DC): National
Academies Press (US); 1999.
It is clear that amount and type of protection required in any hazardous materials incident depends
upon the hazard and the duration of exposure anticipated. National Institute for Occupational Safety
20 and Health (NIOSH)/OSHA/EPA classification system is often used in describing general levels of
protection:
Level A provides maximal protection against vapors and liquids. It includes a fully
encapsulating, chemical-resistant suit, gloves and boots, and a pressure-demand, self-contained
breathing apparatus (SCBA) or a pressure-demand supplied air respirator (air hose) and escape
25 SCBA.
Level B is used when full respiratory protection is required but danger to the skin from vapor is
less. It differs from Level A in that it incorporates a non- encapsulating, splash-protective,
3
chemical-resistant suit (splash suit) that provides Level A protection against liquids, but is not
airtight.
Level C utilizes a splash suit along with a full-faced positive or negative pressure respirator (a
filter-type gas mask) rather than an SCBA or airline.
5 Level D is limited to coveralls or other work clothes, boots, and gloves.
PPE kits have assumed significant importance owing to wide spread SARS-CoV-2 leading to current
pandemic. A number of PPE kits are available in commercial market.
Essential features of these kits include a torso portion and a lower limb portion. Some variants such
as face masks and shields are provided to give more and more protection to the user.
10 The available PPE kits have disadvantage of being bulky and heavy causing discomfort to the wearer.
Moreover, kits do not allow the circulation of air and trap heat resulting in thermal/heat stress leading
to high order of discomfort that can further lead to dehydration. Most of the kits do not have the front
operated zippers covering the torso and head collectively. These zippers are provided at the back and
making it difficult to self-operate in case of requirement.
15 Prior Art Patents:
EP3039977A1 (Prior Art Fig 1) invention designed bodysuit for the use of PPE comprising of torso
portion and leg portion. The new concept disclosed in this patent is customizable sizing, integrated
doffing and disposable methodology to reduce the risk of contamination.
But this patent does not provide any method for air circulation in the bodysuit which could make the
20 suit breathable.
US2004006815A1 (Prior Art Fig 2) invention aimed at as a contamination avoidance garment
which can be used during nuclear, biological and chemical events. It is made up of multiple garment
pieces to afford the wearer a high degree of barrier to toxic environment. The garment is configured
to decrease the entry of toxics by filtering the air entering from garment opening such as neck
25 opening, font and leg opening.
4
The garment includes a torso portion and limb portions, each defining primary openings in the
garment, and wherein said materials are fitted inside at least one of the primary openings of the
garment.
This patent does not provide any method for air circulation in the bodysuit which could make the suit
5 breathable.
US4272851A (Prior Art Figure 3) describes protective garment for insulating worker from the
hazardous environment. The suit was manufactured from valuable material having double
overlapping zipper with a binded stitch to outside. The double overlapping construction increased the
strength of zipper and decreased the permeability of the contamination area. This double over lapped
10 zipper construction is provided in which a first zipper closes an opening in the material forming the
main body of the garment while a second zipper over laps the first zipper on the exterior thereof in a
separate flap of material.
This protective garment additionally comprises air inlet means and air exhaust means, said air inlet
means comprising an intake tube connected to a source of clean air and said air exhaust means
15 comprising exhaust ports covered by a protective flap.
Further reduction in the intake of contaminants into the interior of protective garment is provided by
pressurizing the interior of the garment to a pressure in excess of that of the hazardous surroundings.
Pressurization is provided by means of an air intake port connected by suitable conduit to a source of
clean filtered breathable air. Pressurization, accomplished by conventional means, prevents ambient
20 contaminants from entering the garment as there is a continual out flow of air from such openings as
wristlets, anklets, any leaking seams and the zipper area.
This patent primarily discloses a garment and design of zipper. It also discloses the concept of
pressurization of air to prevent contamination of breathable air.
But this does not disclose how to keep the entire bodysuit cool and comfortable. Only making
25 breathable air suitable for intake is not the purpose of present invention which will be discussed
further.
5

personal protection complete suit with air purification device primarily consist a full body air tight
suit with helmet and an electronic device to deliver pure, cool, uncontaminated air for inhalation and
air circulation and expels the exhale and exhaust air as a clean air in the atmosphere. It can be used in
5 all weather conditions and pollution. It also comprises an electronic sanitization machine and
electronic air blower to sanitize the personal protection suit of the user and other objects, raw
vegetable, fruits, small room etc. at any place, keeping the user safe and hygienic. The air tight
personal protection complete suit with air purification device consists of main electronic device with
air purification system, main connecting channel from electronic device to backside of the body suit,
10 helmet connected with the body suit and jacket, jacket, upper part of the body suit, pair of hand
glove, trouser the lower part of the body suit with belt, pair of sock, electronic sanitizer device and
the electronic air blower.
But this patent does not disclose how to keep the entire bodysuit cool and comfortable. Sanitization
and air purification is not the purpose of present invention which will be discussed further.
15
Indian Patent application no. 202021022111 (Prior art Fig 5) discloses a personal protection
equipment (PPE) for air purification. The PPE includes an apparatus consisting of a filter and a
scrubber unit. The filter that is configured to filter the air for removing dust from the air. The
scrubber unit that is configured to purify the air before a user breaths the air. The scrubber unit
20 includes a sparger through which the filtered air is pumped and bubbled in a water solution of
polymer to trap remaining contaminants in the air and the contaminants free or improved quality air
is sent to the user for breathing.
But this patent does not disclose how to keep the entire bodysuit cool and comfortable. Purification
of breathable air is not the purpose of present invention which will be discussed further.

PAPR system uses a blower instead of lung power to draw air through the filter. This lets you breathe
more naturally while feeling a constant airflow in your head top while working in hot and humid
environments.
10 PAPR is Powered Air Purifying Respirator consists of battery operated blower, that provides airflow
through a filter, cartridge, or canister to a hood or face piece. Whereas in the proposed invention the
air for breathing will come through the filter at the mouth, further fresh air will enter the bodysuit to
keep air circulating at the other parts of the body and bodysuit.
Further in PAPR unfiltered air exhaled out of hood may contaminate the outer area. However, in
15 present bodysuit passive outlet is provided with filter to exhale inside air without contaminating the
outer air.
PAPR respirator is up to torso portion only whereas the proposed invention is a single piece from
head to torso to ankle.
Further PAPR need others’ assistance for donning on and off. However, present bodysuit is self
20 operatable due to its unique style zipper provided at the front.
Suffocation starts immediately as blower is switched off and may lead to death and serious injury in
case of any delays. Whereas in the proposed invention fresh air will always be available through the
mouth piece filter.
Drawbacks of existing bodysuits/PPE kits:
25 As seen from above, all bodysuits/PPE kits suffer from common problems of restricted vision during
donning, heat stress leading to risk of dehydration and difficulty in wearing for longer periods. Such
bodysuits/PPE kits normally require assistance of fellow colleague or other person to put it on or
7
remove it off. So, chances of fellow colleague getting the exposure to virus are high while donning
off.
Therefore, there is need to develop an active air cooling single piece bodysuit with filtered air for
hazardous biological and chemical environments and to make the wearer more comfortable. To
5 achieve this, some kind of arrangement should be there to let air circulate through the kit and human
body yet restricting the flow of micro-organisms and other particulate matter etc. Further, it is desired
that zipper operation be designed for single piece bodysuit in such a manner, where one may operate
it without the help of any other person.
10 OBJECT OF THE INVENTION
The main object of the present invention is to disclose a simple and novel personal protective single
piece bodysuit which provides air circulation in the suit but restricts the entry of contaminants of the
air by means of filters (and UV LEDs).
One more object of the present invention is to disclose a bodysuit which is single piece from head to
15 torso to ankle.
Another objective is to disclose a specially designed zipper path which is self operatable and can be
worn without the help of any other person.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
20 The present invention discloses novel bodysuit to protect the health-workers, soldiers and
researchers from hazardous chemical and biological environment. The bodysuit is a single piece
item from head to ankle to achieve the enhanced level of protection. The bodysuit is provided with
uniquely designed zipper path so as to facilitate easy putting on/putting off the bodysuit without the
help of any other person. Further, bodysuit is supported by cooling fans provided in such a way so as
25 to provide breathing character to the suit. Fans enhance the air cooling and comfort level of the
wearer. The openings in the suit for air flow are covered by suitable N95 or better filters. Further
UV LEDs can be embedded optionally in fan assembly to give extra protection in case of biological
contaminants.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
The present invention is not limited to the specific embodiments disclosed herein and those
10 modifications are intended to be included within the scope of the appended claims.
The following description with the accompanying drawing is provided to bring clarity to the
various features of the invention.
Constructional Details:
The present invention discloses novel personal protective bodysuit in Figure 6. The novel single
15 piece bodysuit of present invention comprises Head compartment (A), Torso compartment (B),
Lower limb compartment (C) that includes thighs and lower legs upto ankle.
The Head compartment comprises of a unique easy to operate zipper path (101), eye protection
shield (102) and respirator (103). The wearer can wear bodysuit easily without assistance due to
unique zip style starting from the head portion to torso portion as shown in the Figure 7. This
20 invention also provides the inbuilt filter with respirator at face area along with thin transparent
plastic protective sheet to cover the eyes without restricting the view. The mask which is attached
with bodysuit, is fitted with N95 respirators (103) for better quality of filtered air. The material used
for the eye shield can be a scratch resistant.
Torso compartment (B) consists of four compact and high-performance air-cooling fans (105), two
25 on shoulders and other two on waist as shown in Figure. 6. The double protective zippered area
along with velcro (108) can also be seen in Figure. 7. This provides more protection against the
entry of external microorganisms. Further the fans (105) are provided for the proper ventilation
inside the bodysuit and to make wearer more comfortable. Moreover, at the back of bodysuit one
passive outlet (106) is also provided with filter to exhale the air off bodysuit as shown in Figure. 8.
10
The elastic band (107) is provided at waist and will be on the back side only to make the adjustment
according to the body shape and comfortable fit. However, velcroid cuff (104) is provided at wrist
portion for the adjustment of gloves by wearer. The gloves do not cover the fingers (109) so as not
to suppress the sensitivity of the wearer at the fingers as shown in Figure. 10. For the protection of
5 wearer, he/she can wear disposable gloves.
Lower limb compartment (C) consists of two fans (105) on the thighs and ankle openings with
elastic band at the end (100). Figure. 9 depicts the flow of air in the personal protective bodysuit.
Fans take the air from surroundings and through filters (112) the filtered air moves upwards causing
air circulation within the bodysuit and hence providing better comfort. Each fan has dimension of
10 8x8x2 cm attached with 9 V batteries (117) along with single pole double throw switch i.e. on off
switch and connecting wire (115). The fan blade direction is designed to flow air from outside to
inside the bodysuit Figure. 11. The battery holder (116) and fan guard are assembled together with
bolts (110) as shown in Figure. 12. The rechargeable battery is hidden away inside the clothing and
can keep the fan going for up to 8-14 hours based on fan speed required. The fans circulate the air
15 throughout the bodysuit in upward motion with air circulation of 8-18 Litre per min depending upon
the speed of fans. The provided fans make the temperature of the wearer low and provide a high level
of comfort in hot sunny days. The complete assembly of fan consist of UV-LED (118) and N95
filter (112) or better filters based upon the usage of PPE bodysuit shown in Figure. 13 and Figure
14. The PPE kit can be reused after UV sterilization and presumably the fans were detached from the
20 bodysuit for washing.
Wearing of the bodysuit is quite easy as compared to existing suits. The wearer has to put in his legs
first in the lower limb compartment (C) after opening the zip. Then arms can be inserted in torso
compartment (B) and finally head is covered in Head compartment (A). A single Zip starting from
25 head portion to torso portion is used to zip the bodysuit fully. Since the zip is provided in front, no
assistance is required to use it.
Elasticated ankle closure (100) is provided for covering the ankles.
Circulation of air inside the bodysuit is achieved through the fans operated by the batteries.
11
Bodysuit can be made of thermally insulating material so that it can be used by industrial workers
who deal with high temperature. This thermal insulating material decreases the thermal stress and
inbuilt fans provide the cooling and breathing. This will increase the workers’ efficiency and protect
their health.
5 PPE bodysuit is embedded with ultra violet light LED (118) particularly near or inside the fan
assembly, which is expected to kill the virus present in inlet air. Also, it will not harm the human
skin because LEDs are located away from human body.
Therefore, a complete solution in the form of bodysuit is achieved which removes the drawbacks of
earlier similar products and achieves the objects of this invention.
10
Novelty, Inventive steps and Industrial Application of the present Invention
NOVELTY
The novelty in the present invention lies in developing a bodysuit which in fact breathes. In all other
15 present similar PPE kits/bodysuits, systems are provided for making breathable air clean or keeping
face area cool but no one thought of the problem of heat shock in other parts of the body due to which
wearing of PPE kit/bodysuit is cumbersome.
But in present invention, air circulation in whole body is made possible as well as wearing on and off
of the said bodysuit is very easy. Presently available PPE kits or bodysuits do not provide these
20 features. Hence the present invention is Novel and Unique.
INVENTIVE STEP
The technical advancement of knowledge lies in disclosing a bodysuit which can circulate air in the
whole body of the suit and not only for breathing purpose. The same is achieved by installing six
25 compact and high-performance air-cooling fans, two on shoulders and other two on waist, two fans
on thighs of the bodysuit. Care is taken that at the back of bodysuit one passive outlet (106) is also
provided with filter to exhale the air off. The fans are also fitted with N95 filter or better filters based
12
upon the usage of PPE bodysuit. Fans take the air from ambiance through filters (112) and the filtered
air moves upwards causing air circulation within the bodysuit and hence providing better comfort.
Additionally, PPE bodysuit is embedded with ultra violet light LEDs (118) particularly near or inside
the fan assembly, which are expected to kill the virus present in inlet air.
5 Donning on and off is made easy due to the unique style zip provided in front portion which is selfoperatable. The proposed bodysuit is a single piece from head to torso to ankle. The zipper path
provided runs from lower of the torso to the chest then through the shoulders upto the temporal lobe
of the head (as shown in the Figure 6) in front portion of bodysuit in such a way that the wearer can
easily put it on and off without the help of any other person.
10 Use of a double protective zippered area along with Velcro provides extra protection against the
possibility of entry of contaminated air through the zipper.
Therefore, the present invention has unique features and thus fulfils the criteria of inventiveness.
INDUSTRIAL APPLICATION
15 Needless to say, that the present bodysuit would be the primary requirement in the view of
present global crisis of COVID 19. Since it is a useful and unique product, can be easily
manufactured and sold at a commercial level, it is industrially applicable to a large extent.
