, Description:FIELD OF THE INVENTION:
The present invention relates to an alarm system for visually impaired individuals. The present invention more particularly relates to a system which helps in the safety of visually handicapped individuals and provides maximum personal safety while moving on the platform of public railway station.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION:
Blindness is a lacking state of visual perception due to neurological or physiological factors. Partial blindness represents the integration lack in the optic nerve growth or the eye visual center. The total blindness is defined as the full absence of light visual perception. The deaf and blind persons are frequently suffering at mostly exercising of basic things in daily life. This suffering makes lives almost at risk during traveling through obstacles, due to necessary equipment lack in my country that provides them an assistance state to avoid or cross over the risk.
About 285 million people are visually impaired worldwide: 39 million are blind and 246 million have low vision (severe or moderate visual impairment). About 90 per cent of the world's visually impaired people live in developing countries. Globally, uncorrected refractive errors are the main cause of visual impairment.
It is difficult for blind people to travel due to the tasks associated with the travelling that are mobility and environmental access. Avoiding obstacles as well as minimizing hazards is very important. Vision information is also important while travelling, but Visually impaired individuals use their sense of sight only to limited extent. Generally visually impaired people require support from other people to carry out different travel activity subtasks.
Obstacle avoidance for visually impaired people is considered as a primary requirement for aided mobility. Obstacle avoidance technology needs to address two issues: obstacle detection and obstacle warning. The obstacle detection means the perception of potentially hazardous objects in the environment ahead of time and to convey obstacle information to the visually impaired people.
U.S. Pat. No. 5,126,718 discloses a system which depends upon the reflection of infrared radiation from an intruder entering a protected field of view. The system described in U.S. Pat. No. 4,712,003 provides a blind person guide device using sonar to indicate bearing and distance from an object in which the distance to an object lying in the direction in which the range finder faces is transmitted or perceived as vibrations felt through the handle of a walking stick. Neither of these two prior art apparatus addresses a particular danger faced by blind people while using rail transportation.
So there is need for obstacle avoidance assistive tool to detect obstacles and get warned to the visually impaired individuals about the obstacles. The present invention is an alarm system which helps in the safety of visually handicapped individuals and provides maximum personal safety while moving on the platform of public railway station. It is a device which helps visually impaired or handicapped people by warning them that they have entered a potentially dangerous area, which is near to an edge of boarding platform.
OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION:
The main object of the present invention is to provide an alarm system which helps in the safety of visually handicapped individuals.
Yet another object of the present invention is provide maximum personal safety while moving on the platform of public railway station.
Yet another object of the present invention is to provide obstacle avoidance assistive tool to detect obstacles and get warned to the visually impaired individuals about the obstacles.
Other objects and benefits of the present invention will be more apparent from the following description, which is not intended to bind the scope of the present invention.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION:
Accordingly, a system and method for triggering alarm which helps in the safety of visually handicapped individuals is disclosed. The present invention provides maximum personal safety while moving on the platform of public railway station. The method of triggering an alarm sound comprising of; Registering user in the website database followed by Approaching user towards object. Further Requesting the assistance by using indicator word “help” and Triggering the alarm followed by sending an alert to the website system; and sending an SMS to the family and caregivers (normal user) with information on the user location and asking to contact him/her.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS:
Fig 1 shows flowchart for an alarm system which helps in the safety of visually handicapped individuals.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION:
The present system is an automatic alarm system which helps in the safety of visually handicapped individuals. This system helps visually impaired or handicapped people by warning them that they have entered a potentially dangerous area, which is near to an edge of boarding platform. These potentially dangerous areas are generally found in different transit systems and railways. Infra red technology is used to alert individuals of these dangerous areas. The present invention is a wearable wristwatch-like smart system; remote monitoring of the user and detects when the user stumbles over. The present invention allows the user to request assistance using alarms using sound and vibration. The present invention is a low-power consumption with a high-capacity battery supported by a solar panel. The system of the present invention is lightweight and affordable for user.
A normal user can register in the internal database of the website and register himself/herself. In this way, user profiles are created in the internal database of the website. For user profile creation, user has to register using his basic information (full name, telephone no, address, contact no) on the website database and after registration only, normal user (caretaker) can request to communicate with other users.
This system works by using Passive alarm systems which use passive detectors and sensors in order to indicate unusual movements. These sensors are designed to read energy changes that occur within range. The passive detector use a sensitive monitor that can detect someone moving into or out of bed, chair, window or doorway. It is a solution for individuals with visual impairments to increase their overall sense of security. A passive alarm system turns on automatically.
The present system triggers an alarm sound that increases in intensity as the user approaches the object. The alarm sounds like a vibration alarm aimed for users with hearing loss or in noisy environments. Like the sound, the vibration intensity increases as the user approaches the object. If the user wearing the system stumbles over, an alarm is triggered to alert people in the surroundings and an SMS is sent to the family and caregivers reporting the incident ( internal database of the website). If the user requires help, he/she can say the word “Help” for the system to trigger the corresponding alarm, which alerts people in the surroundings and sends an SMS to the family and caregivers (normal user) with information on the user location and asking to contact him/her. Moreover, the family and caregivers can request the system location by sending an SMS, thus allowing to locate and track the system when needed, such as when the user should be located or when the system is stolen or lost.
The method of triggering an alarm sound comprising of;
Registering user in the website database;
Approaching user towards object;
Requesting the assistance by using indicator word “help”;
Triggering the alarm followed by sending an alert to the website system;
sends an SMS to the family and caregivers (normal user) with information on the user location and asking to contact him/her.
The alarm system of the present invention comprises of internal website database for registration; controller, sensors, alarms, and power supply. The sensor is with three types as passive sensor, accelerometer, voice recognition sensor. The sensor sends signals and detects when a signal returns. Sensor uses an electrical–mechanical transformation to retrieve the distance between the sensor and the detected object. It has a transmitter and a receiver of ultrasonic signals, where the former generates short, high-frequency pulses at regular intervals that propagate through the air. If these pulses collide with an object, the pulses return as echo signals acquired by the receiver. If these pulses collide with an object, the pulses return as echo signals acquired by the receiver. A microphone acquires the sound to be analyzed by transforming it into an electrical signal. Then, the functional speech recognition system digitizes this signal through an analog-to-digital converter to be handled by a processor. The digitized signal is analyzed to identify speech features it may contain. Speech recognition systems are commonly trained with the voice of its intended user. Voice of the user is already used in communication system to communicate with the user. However, the system training process should be performed for every user. This type of recognition must consider a great variety of speech characteristics such as intonation, articulation, and rhythm of the target word. The word “Help” to be identified only from the user to trigger the request for assistance. The proposed system has two types of alarms, namely, sound, vibration.
