Abstract: The present invention relates to novel amorphous zaleplon and process for the preparation thereof. Particularly, present invention provides novel amorphous zaleplon in combination with a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier. Amorphous zaleplon of the present invention is characterized by its X-ray powder diffraction (XRPD) pattern substantially in accordance with Fig. 1. The present invention further provides a process for the preparation of novel amorphous zaleplon in combination with a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier. The process includes removing the solvent from a solution containing zaleplon in combination with a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier, in an organic solvent, such as using distillation under vacuum, spray drying, or an Ultrafilm agitated thin film drier (ATFD).
