TITLE OF THE INVENTION
An adapter for terminal boxes for motors
APPLICANTS:
Crompton Greaves Limited, CG House, Dr Annie Besant Road, Worli, Mumbai 400 030, Maharashtra, India, an Indian Company
INVENTOR (S):
Das Mukul of Crompton Greaves Ltd, Machines (M7) Division, D-5, Industrial Area, MPAKVN, Mandideep - 462046, Madhya Pradesh, India; an Indian National.
PREAMBLE TO THE DESCRIPTION:
The following specification particularly describes the nature of this invention and the manner in which it is to be performed:

Field of the Invention:
This invention relates to the field of motors.
Particularly, this invention relates to terminal boxes for motors.
Still particularly, this invention relates to an adapter for terminal boxes for motors.
Background of the Invention:
A motor for electrical purposes, i.e. an electric motor, is a device which converts electrical energy to mechanical energy. For industrial use, the ratings of motor may typically be very high. They may be placed in housings and are hence called totally enclosed motors.
The term 'TEFC motors' relates to Totally Enclosed Fan Cooled motors. It may be fitted or have provisions for terminal boxes on two opposite sides across the length of the housing.
A motor, typically, has a driving side and a non driving side. Each side may be fitted with a terminal box such as a main terminal box and a star terminal box. These boxes occupy the operative front side and the operative back side of the motor.
Sometimes, there is a need for an auxiliary terminal box. These auxiliary boxes may include RTD (Resistance Temperature Detector) terminal boxes, heating heater terminal boxes or the like.

In the existing design, a motor is mounted with a plurality of terminal boxes serving various purposes and on various sides of the motor as extensions to the motor body. These extensions may not be conducive the geometry of the motor housing design especially for the purposes of transportation and location. Further, the dispersed nature of terminal boxes is not a good engineering practice.
Hence, in the previous design, it was needed to provide a common adapter for a plurality of terminal boxes and associated auxiliary equipment required for the motor.
There is a need for an adapter which efficiently mounts auxiliary devices or components or equipment in compliance with electrical and mechanical standards of safety.
Objects of the Invention:
An object of the invention is to provide an adapter adapted to mount a plurality of terminal boxes with on motor housings.
Another object of the invention is to provide a stable terminal box adapter adapted to be fitted with a range of sizes of motor housings and for a range of sizes of terminal boxes.
Yet another object of the invention is to curb the dispersed nature of mounting terminal boxes or auxiliary equipment on a motor housing.

Still another object of the invention is to provide a centralized mounting for terminal boxes or auxiliary equipment on a motor housing.
Summary of the Invention:
According to this invention, there is provided an adapter for terminal boxes for motors, said terminal box being a substantially rectangular housing which is adapter housing with a plurality of fascias, said fascias relating to an operative upper side, an operative lower side, an operative left width-wise side, an operative right width-wise side, an operative left length-wise side, and an operative right length-wise side, wherein,
a. said operative upper side includes earthing pads;
b. said operative right length-wise side includes a protruding recessed flanged
member on one side for mounting an RTD/BTD box for use of associated
motor and further includes a protruding member on another side with an
annular hole for mounting a heater box for use of associated motor;
c. said operative left length-wise side for mounting a dial DTT type
thermometer for use of associated motor;
d. said operative right width-wise side adapted to include a slot for mounting a
main terminal box for use of associated motor; and
e. said operative left width-wise side adapted to include a slot for mounting a
neutral point terminal box for use of associated motor.
Typically, said adapter is a top mounter adapter with respect to motor housing.

Typically, said adapter includes a wire guide for guiding wires from each of said
sides.
Typically, said adapter includes a wire termination means for terminated wires from each of said sides at a single termination point.
Brief Description of the Accompanying Drawings:
The invention will now be described in relation to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 illustrates an isometric view of adapter for terminal boxes for motors;
Figures 2 to 4 illustrate various side views of the adapter of Figure 1 for terminal boxes for motors; and
Figure 5 illustrates a bottom view of the adapter of Figure 1 for terminal boxes for motors.
Detailed Description of the Accompanying Drawings:
According to this invention, there is provided an adapter for terminal boxes for motors.
Figure 1 illustrates an isometric view of adapter (100) for terminal boxes for motors;

Figures 2 to 4 illustrate various side views of the adapter (100) of Figure 1 for terminal boxes for motors; and
Figure 5 illustrates a bottom view of the adapter (100) of Figure 1 for terminal boxes for motors.
In accordance with an embodiment of this invention, there is provided a substantially rectangular housing which is adapter housing with a plurality of fascias. The fascias relate to the sides i.e. an operative upper side (12), an operative lower side (14), an operative left width-wise side (16), an operative right width-wise side (18), an operative left length-wise side (20), and an operative right length-wise side (22).
In accordance with a first embodiment of this invention, there is provided an operative upper side (12) adapted to include earthing pads (30).
In accordance with a second embodiment of this invention, there is provided an operative right length-wise side (22) adapted to include a protruding recessed flanged member (40) on one side for mounting an RTD/BTD box for use of associated motor and there is further provided a protruding member (45) on another side with an annular hole for mounting a heater box for use of associated motor.
In accordance with a third embodiment of this invention, there is provided an operative left length-wise side (20) for mounting a dial DTT type thermometer for use of associated motor.

In accordance with a fourth embodiment of this invention, there is provided an operative right width-wise side (18) adapted to include a slot (50) for mounting a main terminal box for use of associated motor.
In accordance with a fourth embodiment of this invention, there is provided an operative left width-wise side (16) adapted to include a slot (60) for mounting a neutral point terminal box for use of associated motor.
Typically, the adapter (100) is mounted atop a motor.
This adapter serves to be a single unit adapter for mounting a plurality of terminal boxes and auxiliary equipment related to the motor on which the adapter is mounted. All the wires can be terminated at a single position. Thus, wiring complications and messy wirework can be resolved.
While this detailed description has disclosed certain specific embodiments of the present invention for illustrative purposes, various modifications will be apparent to those skilled in the art which do not constitute departures from the spirit and scope of the invention as defined in the following claims, and it is to be distinctly understood that the foregoing descriptive matter is to be interpreted merely as illustrative of the invention and not as a limitation.
