Description:FIELD OF THE INVENTION
[001] Present invention relates to an adjustable gear shift assembly of a vehicle. More particularly, the present invention relates to the adjustable gear shift assembly for an adjustable footrest of a two-wheeled vehicle.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
[002] Saddle type vehicles such as two-wheeled vehicles, are typically manufactured keeping in mind a rider with generic physiological dimensions. Accordingly, position of components such as a footrest and a gear shift pedal in the saddle type vehicle are considered based on the generic rider. However, the saddle type vehicle is typically used by the rider of varying physiological dimensions. Thus, the rider may be uncomfortable in riding such saddle type vehicles. Moreover, due to fixed positions of components in the saddle type vehicles, a riding posture and/or a riding position of the rider may also be fixed. As such, the riding posture and/or the riding positions may not be optimized for different riding conditions such as a city riding condition, an off-road riding condition and a cruise riding condition.
[003] Further, due to fixed positions of the gear shift pedal and the foot rest, the rider is required to maintain the position of the foot for a longer duration of time, which is unergonomic. Also, unergonomic placement of the foot may consequently impede ability of the rider to ride the vehicle, which is undesirable.
[004] Thus, there is a need for an adjustable gear shift assembly which addresses at least one or more aforementioned problems.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
[016] The present invention relates to an adjustable gear shift assembly of a vehicle. More particularly, the present invention relates to the adjustable gear shift assembly for an adjustable footrest of a two-wheeled vehicle. The adjustable gear shift assembly is capable of being adjusted in accordance with requirement of a rider of the vehicle. Thus, the adjustable gear shift assembly enables various riding positions to the rider.
[017] Figure 1 is an exploded view of an adjustable gear shift assembly 100 for a vehicle, in accordance with an exemplary embodiment of the present invention. The adjustable gear shift assembly 100 (hereinafter referred to as ‘assembly 100’) is adapted to enable adjustment of a position of a gear shift pedal 102 of the vehicle. As such, a rider of the vehicle with diverse physiological dimensions can comfortably operate the gear shift pedal 102. Moreover, adjustment of the position of the gear shift pedal 102 enables various riding positions to the rider as per rider’s requirement, thereby ensuring rider comfort in the vehicle.
[018] The assembly 100 comprises the gear shift pedal 102 mounted to an adjustable footrest arm 104. The gear shift pedal 102 is coupled to a gear shift shaft (not shown) of a gearbox (not shown). Actuation of the gear shift pedal 102 correspondingly operates the gear shift shaft for enabling shifting of a gear (not shown). The gear shift pedal 102 is pivotally mounted to a first end 104A of the adjustable footrest arm 104 and is positioned proximal to a footrest 124 of the vehicle. Such placement of the gear shift pedal 102 with respect to the footrest 124 enables the rider to operate the gear shift pedal 102, while resting a foot of the rider on the footrest 124.
[019] In an embodiment, the gear shift pedal 102 comprises a lever portion 102A aligned along a front-rear direction (not shown) of the vehicle and is coupled to the gear shift shaft of the gearbox. The lever portion 102A also has an aft-end (not shown) pivotally coupled to the adjustable footrest arm 104 and a fore-end (not shown) located at a distance from the adjustable footrest arm 104. A pedal portion 102B extends laterally from the fore-end of the lever portion 102A. The pedal portion 102B is located such that, the rider is capable of operating the pedal portion 102B through a toe or a front heel portion of the foot of the rider. Accordingly, actuation of the lever portion 102A through the pedal portion, operates the gear shift shaft of the gearbox, thereby enabling shifting of the gear in the gearbox. In an embodiment, the pedal portion 102B of the gear shift lever 102 is operated downwards or upwards about the aft-end of the lever portion 102A.
[020] In an embodiment, a second end 104B of the adjustable footrest arm 104 is pivotally mounted to a frame member (not shown) or to a center tube (not shown) of the vehicle. Accordingly, the first end 104A of the adjustable footrest arm 104 is operable between a fore-end position (not shown) and an aft-end position (not shown). Thus, the adjustable footrest arm 104 oscillates about the second end 104B. Further, as the footrest 124 is mounted at the first end 104A of the adjustable footrest arm 104, the footrest 124 is also operated between the fore-end position and the aft-end position along with the first end 104A of the adjustable footrest arm 104.
[021] In an embodiment, the adjustable footrest arm 104 is coupled to an actuator (not shown), wherein the actuator pivotally operates the adjustable footrest arm 104 between the fore-end position and the aft-end position about the second end 104B. In an embodiment, the adjustable footrest arm 104 is operated between the fore-end position and the aft-end position based on physiological dimensions of the rider, and thus ensures comfortable foot placement to the rider during vehicle operation.
[022] Referring to Figures 2 and 3 in conjunction with Figure 1, the gear shift pedal 102 is operable between a first position and a second position corresponding to operation of the adjustable footrest arm 104. In other words, operation of the adjustable footrest arm 104 to the fore-end position may operate the gear shift pedal 102 to the first position, while operation of the adjustable footrest arm 104 to the aft-end position may operate the gear shift pedal 102 to the second position. In an embodiment, the first position of the gear shift pedal 102 corresponds to a lower position with respect to the footrest 124, while the second position of the gear shift pedal 102 corresponds to an upper position with respect to the footrest 124. In other words, when the pedal portion 102B is below the footrest 124, the position of the gear shift pedal 102 is construed to be in the second position, and if the pedal portion 102B is above the footrest 124, the position of the gear shift pedal 102 is construed to be in the first position. In an embodiment, the gear shift pedal 102 may be set to the first position, when the rider has a superior ankle flexibility. In another embodiment, the gear shift pedal 102 may be set to the second position, when the rider has a restricted ankle flexibility.
[023] Referring to Figure 3, the assembly 100 comprises a first lever 108 pivotally mounted to the first end 104A of the adjustable footrest arm 104. The first lever 108 is also pivotally coupled with the gear shift pedal 102. As such, the first lever 108 is configured to be actuated upon operation of the gear shift pedal 102. In other words, operation of the gear shift pedal 102 correspondingly pivots the first lever 108 about the first end 104A of the adjustable footrest arm 104. In an embodiment, the downward operation of the gear shift pedal 102 may operate the first lever 108 in an anti-clockwise direction about the first end 104A of the adjustable footrest arm 104, while the upward operation of the gear shift pedal 102 may operate the first lever 108 in a clockwise direction about the first end 104A of the adjustable footrest arm 104.
[024] In an embodiment, the first lever 108 may be a first-class lever, a second-class lever or a third-class lever as per design feasibility and requirement. In the present embodiment, the first lever 108 is an elongated bar. However, the shape and dimensions of the first lever 108 may be considered as per design feasibility and requirement of the assembly 100 and the vehicle.
[025] In one embodiment, an axis of operation of the gear shift pedal 102 is in line with an axis of the pivotal actuation of the first lever 108. In another embodiment, the axis of operation of the gear shift pedal 102 is offset with the axis of the pivotal actuation of the first lever 108. In an embodiment, the first lever 108 is mounted on a surface opposite to that of the gear shift pedal 102 at the first end 104A.
[026] Further, the assembly 100 comprises a second lever 110 mounted to a support bracket 106 of the vehicle, wherein the support bracket 106 being supported on a vehicle frame (not shown). The second lever 110 is coupled to the first lever 108. As such, the second lever 110 is adapted to be actuated corresponding to movement of the first lever 108. The second lever 110 is also pivotally coupled to the gear shift shaft of the gearbox. Accordingly, actuation of the first lever 108 through the gear shift pedal 102 correspondingly actuates the gear shift shaft through the second lever 110. Thus, the second lever 110 is adapted to pivotally operate the gear shift shaft for enabling shifting of the gear in the gearbox upon actuation of the first lever 108 through the gear shift pedal.
[027] In an embodiment, the second lever 110 is mounted onto the support bracket 106 through an attachment member 114. The attachment member 114 (as shown in Figure 4) is coupled with the gear shift shaft of the gearbox. Accordingly, actuation of the second lever 110 is transferred to the gear shift shaft for enabling shifting of the gear in the gear box.
[028] In an embodiment, the second lever 110 may be a first-class lever, a second-class lever, or a third-class lever as per design feasibility and requirement. In the present embodiment, the second lever 110 is an elongated bar. However, the shape and dimensions of the second lever 110 may be considered as per design feasibility and requirement of the assembly 100 and the vehicle.
[029] In an embodiment, the second lever 110 is coupled to the first lever 108 through one or more cables 112A, 112B. The one or more cables 112A, 112B are adapted to transfer movement from the first lever 108 to the second lever 110 upon actuation of the gear shift pedal. The one or more cables 112A, 112B comprise one or more outer sheaths 112A and one or more inner wires 112B. Each of the one or more inner wires 112B extend inside the one or more sheaths 112A. In an embodiment, the one or more sheaths 112A prevent wear and tear to the one or more inner wires 112B. Further, each of the one or more outer sheaths 112A comprises a fore end 120A coupled to a first abutment member 116 (as shown in Figure 4) and an aft end 120B coupled to a second abutment member 118. The first abutment member 116 is mounted on the adjustable footrest arm 104 and the second abutment member 118 is mounted on the support bracket 106. Each of the one or more inner wires 112B comprises a first end 122A coupled to the first lever 108 and a second end 122B coupled to the second lever 110. The first end 122A and the second end 122B of each of the one or more wires 112B are adapted to connect with the first lever 108 and the second lever 110 upon extending through the first abutment member 116 and the second abutment member 118. The first abutment member 116 and the second abutment member 118 ensure movement of the one or more inner wires 112B within the one or more sheaths 112A. Thus, a relative movement is ensured by the first abutment member 116 and the second abutment member 118 between the one or more inner wires 112B and the one or more sheaths 112A. Such a construction of the one or more cables 112A, 112B with the first abutment member 116, the second abutment member 118, the first lever 108 and the second lever 110, ensures to maintain tension between the first lever 108 and the second lever 110. Accordingly, actuation of the first lever 108 is seamlessly transferred to the second lever 110.
[030] In an embodiment, dimensions of the one or more cables 112A, 112B may be selected as per force transmission requirement between the first lever 108 and the second lever 110, and/or as per requirement of the assembly 100.
[031] In an operational embodiment, firstly, the rider operates the adjustable footrest arm 104 between the fore-end position and the aft-end position for positioning the gear shift pedal 102 between the first position and the second position. Upon adjusting the position, the gear shift pedal 102 may be operated through the toe portion or the front heel portion of the rider.
[032] When the gear shift pedal 102 is actuated in a clockwise direction, the first lever 108 is configured to be actuated in a clockwise direction. The one or more cables 112A, 112B are adapted to transfer movement from the first lever 108 to the second lever 110. The second lever 110 is configured to be actuated in a clockwise direction due to the induced tension in the at least one or more cables 112A, 112B. As a result, the gear shift shaft for shifting the gear in the gearbox is engaged in a clockwise direction.
[033] When the gear shift pedal 102 is actuated in a counterclockwise direction, the first lever 108 is configured to be actuated in a counterclockwise direction. The one or more cables 112A, 112B are adapted to transfer movement from the first lever 108 to the second lever 110. At least one of the one or more cables 112A, 112B are brought into tension upon actuation of the first lever 108. The second lever 110 is configured to be actuated in an counterclockwise direction due to the induced tension in the at least one or more cables 112A, 112B. As a result, the gear shift shaft for shifting the gear in the gearbox is engaged in a counterclockwise direction.
[034] In an embodiment, the adjustable footrest arm 104 and the footrest 124 are disposed on left and right sides of the vehicle. The adjustable gear shift assembly 100 is disposed on one of the left and right sides of the vehicle.
[035] The claimed invention as disclosed above is not routine, conventional or well understood in the art, as the claimed aspects enable the following solutions to the existing problems in conventional technologies.
