PREAMBLE TO THE DESCRIPTION
The following specification particularly describes the invention and the manner in which it is to be performed:

FIELD OF THE INVENTION
This invention relates to an adjustable mounting assembly for a wall mounting fan.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
A wall mounting fan comprises a fan motor and a plurality of fan blades mounted on the fan motor shaft in radially spaced apart relationship with one another. The blades are enclosed in a fan guard mounted to the fan motor housing. The fan also comprises a mounting shaft projecting out from the rear side of the fan motor housing whereby the fan is rigidly mounted to a mounting surface. The mounting position of the fan is fixed. In case the user wants to do some adjustments in the mounting position of the fan in order to change the direction of air being swept and blown by the fan it is not possible to do so because of the mounting position being fixed. An adjustable mounting assembly for a wall mounting fan comprises a base and a U-shaped bracket fixed to the base at the bottom thereof. A ring is disposed at the outer ends of the two limbs of the U-shaped bracket and is bolt fitted to the outer ends of the limbs of the U-shaped bracket. The fan comprises a pair of mounting shafts projecting outwardly from the rear end thereof. The mounting shafts are disposed over the ring and bolt fitted to the ring. The mounting position of the fan can be adjusted by loosening the bolts and readjusting the ring and the fan and retightening the bolts. Such a mounting assembly provides only limited angular adjustments of the mounting position of the fan dictated by the bolts. Wall mounting fans, especially small and compact versions thereof are generally used in narrow or restricted areas in automobiles, especially luxury buses. Because of the limited surface area available for mounting of the fan in

automobiles, especially luxury buses, it is advantageous to have adjustability for the mounting position of the fan over a large number of angles or range of angles so as to adjust the direction of airflow within the available restricted or narrow surface area and distribute the air evenly and uniformly within the limited or restricted surface area and also to accommodate the fan within the limited or restricted surface area.
OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION
An object of the invention is to provide an adjustable mounting assembly for a wall mounting fan, which mounting assembly is simple in construction and comprises few components and is reliable.
Another object of the invention is to provide an adjustable mounting assembly for a wall mounting fan, which assembly allows adjustability of the fan position over a large number of angles or range of angles.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
According to the invention there is provided an adjustable mounting assembly for a wall mounting fan, the assembly comprising a base adapted to be mounted on a mounting surface and having a ball projecting outwardly from the centre of the front side thereof, a recessed inner member having an open bottom and an open side and a row of teeth at the outer surface of the edge of the open side thereof, a recessed outer member having an open bottom and an open side and a row of teeth at the inner surface of the edge of the open side thereof, the recessed inner

member and recessed outer member being adjustably mounted at the front side of the base over the ball at the centre of the front side of the.base and with the open side of the recessed inner member disposed within the open side of the recessed outer member and the respective rows of teeth aligned and a crank shaped mounting shaft comprising a pair of end limbs and an intermediate limb perpendicular to one another, one limb of the mounting shaft passing through the space between the recessed inner and outer members with the intermediate limb held between the teeth at the outer surface of the edge of the open side of the recessed inner member and the teeth at the inner surface of the edge of the open side of the recessed outer member, said one limb of the crank shaft having a cavity disposed over the ball and other limb of the crank having a fan mounted thereat.
The following is a details description of the invention with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Fig 1 is an isometric view of the adjustable mounting assembly and wall mounting fan according to an embodiment of the invention;
Fig 2 is a disassembled view of the adjustable mounting assembly of Fig I;
Figs 3 and 4 are isometric views in crosssection of part of the adjustable mounting assembly of Figs 1 and 2 at different angles;

Figs 5 and 6 are isometric views of the-inner and outer recessed members of the adjustable mounting assembly of Figs 1 and 2, respecitvely; and
Figs 7 and 8 are isometric views of the inner and outer recessed members in their engaged position.
The adjustable mounting assembly 1 for a wall mounting fan 2 as illustrated in Figs 1 to 8 of the accompanying drawings comprises a base 3 having a ball 4 projecting out from the centre of the front side thereof. The base also comprises mounting holes 5 provided therethrough. The base is mounted on a mounting surface (not shown) with bolts 6 tightened in mounting holes 5 in the base and corresponding mounting holes in the mounting surface. The base also comprises a pair of directly oppositely placed curved guide grooves 7,7 L-shaped in crossection provided at the front side thereof. 8 is a recessed inner member having an open bottom and open side. A mounting flange 9 with mounting holes 10 is provided at the outer surface of the edge of the open bottom of the recessed inner member (Fig 5). The recessed inner member also comprises a row of teeth 11 at the outer surface of the edge of the open side thereof. The inner member is located at the front side of the base with the mounting flange thereof rotatably adjustably located in one of the curved guide grooves. The inner recessed member is fixed in position at the front side of the base with bolts 12 tightened in mounting holes 13 provided at the front side of the base and corresponding mounting holes 10 in the flange of the recessed inner member. 14 is a recessed outer member having an open bottom and an open side. The recessed outer member comprises a mounting flange 15 with mounting holes 16 provided at the outer surface of the edge of the open bottom thereof. The recessed outer member also comprises a row of teeth 17

provided at the inner surface of the edge of the open side thereof (Fig 6). The recessed outer member is mounted at the front side of the base by engaging the flange of the recessed outer member in the other curved guide groove and tightening bolts 18 in mounting holes 19 provided at the front side of the base and corresponding mounting holes 16 in the flange 15 of the outer member. The recessed inner member is positioned within the recessed outer member with the teeth on the outer surface of the edge of the open side of the inner member aligned with the teeth at the inner surface of the edge of the open side of the outer member. The inner and outer members are disposed over the ball at the center of the front side of the base. 20 is a crank shaped mounting shaft comprising a pair of end limbs 21, 22 and an intermediate limb 23 perpendicular to one another (Fig 3). One limb 21 of the mounting shaft passes through the space between the recessed inner and outer members with the intermediate limbs 23 of the mounting shaft engaged between the teeth on the outer surface of the inner member and inner surface of the outer member. One end limb 21 of the mounting shaft has a cavity 24 engaged over the ball at the front side of the base. The other end limb 22 of the mounting shaft has the fan mounted thereat. According to the invention the mounting position of the fan can be adjusted by removing the bolts 12 and 18 and adjusting the position of the mounting flanges of the recessed inner and outer members in the respective guide grooves. The mounting position of the fan also can be adjusted by loosening the recessed inner and outer members by removing the respective mounting bolts and rotating the mounting shaft about its own axis. The rotational movement of the mounting shaft is facilitated because of the engagement of the socket at the one end limb of the mounting shaft over the ball at the front side of the base. Adjustments of the recessed inner and outer members can be carried out over a large number of angles or range of angles. Rotation of the fan about its own axis of mounting can be carried out 360°. Therefore, the invention

facilitates position adjustment of the fan over a large number of angles or range of angles. Because of the facility to adjust the fan position over a large number of angles or range of angles the air being swept and blown by the fan can also be adjusted over correspondingly large number of angles or range of angles. The invention is ideal for mounting wall mounting fans in restricted areas, especially automobiles particularly luxury buses which has limited area for mounting the fans and requires adjustability of the fan mounting position in such restricted area so as to accommodate the fans and also to distribute the air uniformly and evenly. The adjustable wall mounting assembly of the invention is also simple in construction, comprises few components and is reliable.
