An Advanced Hybrid Re Mineralized Recovery Process Toextract Critical Metals From End Of Life Lithium Ionbatteries

Abstract: The present invention provides an advanced hybrid re-mineralized recovery process to extract critical metals from end-of-life lithium-ion batteries. The said process is an integration of mechanical, chemical and biochemical processes that is efficient in recovering critical metals out of spent lithium-ion batteries at the highest purity levels. In the disclosed process, end-of-life lithium-ion batteries are collected and segregated based on their sizes followed by disassembling the large batteries into small cell packs and subjecting them to pre-treatment module (102) along with small size batteries. The collected material is disassembled into a liquid immersion to minimise the risk of fire and explosion, stabilize the batteries and prevent any reactive incidents during handling. The stabilised batteries are shredded in the primary and secondary modules to break down into smaller fragments. The mechanical treatment of the batteries is performed under an inert environment and afterwards, the captured gases are passed through a series of filters to remove harmful substances. The obtained material is then subjected to chemical treatment which is a two stage process that helps in separating and obtaining critical metals as end product in the respective chemical reactors.
