THE PATENT OFFICE, AT MUMBAI , Description:FIELD
The present disclosure relates to the field of ventilation systems for vehicles.
BACKGROUND
The background information herein below relates to the present disclosure but is not necessarily prior art.
Air vents are fitted into a slot of a vehicle for venting air out from the inside of the vehicle to the outside surroundings. Venting of the inside air of a vehicle is necessary as discomfort is caused in the ears of the occupants when the occupants fully lock the doors of the vehicle. Conventional air vents have flaps constructed in a way that they need to be installed in a particular orientation to allow opening of the flaps for venting. However, when the orientation of the air vents is needed to be changed, as desired due to space limitations inside a vehicle, such air vents are unable to perform the function of venting. More specifically, the flaps either remain open or remain closed. Moreover, the conventional air vents lack modularity of construction which does not allow them to be connected together for suiting large space requirements.
There is therefore, felt a need, for an air vent for a vehicle, which alleviates the aforementioned drawbacks.

In some embodiments, well-known processes, well-known apparatus structures, and well-known techniques are not described in detail.
The terminology used, in the present disclosure, is only for the purpose of explaining a particular embodiment and such terminology shall not be considered to limit the scope of the present disclosure. As used in the present disclosure, the forms "a,” "an," and "the" may be intended to include the plural forms as well, unless the context clearly suggests otherwise. The terms "comprises," "comprising," “including,” and “having,” are open ended transitional phrases and therefore specify the presence of stated features, elements, modules, units and/or components, but do not forbid the presence or addition of one or more other features, elements, components, and/or groups thereof.
When an element is referred to as being "mounted on," “engaged to,” "connected to," or "coupled to" another element, it may be directly on, engaged, connected or coupled to the other element. As used herein, the term "and/or" includes any and all combinations of one or more of the associated listed elements.
Terms such as “inner,” “outer,” "beneath," "below," "lower," "above," "upper," and the like, may be used in the present disclosure to describe relationships between different elements as depicted from the figures.
The present disclosure envisages an air vent for a vehicle that eliminates requirement of a specific orientation of the air vent. Additionally, air vent offers a modular construction so that size and orientation of the air vent is customized as desired. Furthermore, standardization of the air vent is made possible to avoid variation in construction that is suitable for a particular vehicle model.
Referring to the figures 1-9, the air vent 100 for a vehicle (hereinafter referred to as “the air vent 100”) is shown. The air vent 100 comprises an elongate body 10 (hereinafter referred to as “the body 10”) with an aperture 20 defined in an operative central portion of the body. The body 10 of the air vent 100 is configured to be fitted in a slot (not shown in figures) provided on the vehicle. Thus, a passage for air is defined from the inside of the vehicle to the outside of the vehicle. In an embodiment, the slot lies on the external surface of the vehicle. Fins 30 are configured to be attached to the internal sidewalls of the body 10 to form a matrix. The fins 30 are positioned in a direction parallel to the flow of air. The direction of the air flow is in a direction perpendicular to the operative front face 12 of the body 10. A flap 40 is pivotably displaced on an operative front face 12. The operative front face 12 is shared by the sidewalls of the body 10. The flap 40 being pivotably displaceable facilitates uncovering the aperture 20 of the body 10 when the occupants board the vehicle and close the doors of the vehicle. The uncovering of the aperture 20 is realized when the pressure inside the vehicle becomes greater than a predetermined value, thereby preventing discomfort to the occupants of the vehicle. Thus, the discomfort such as blocked ear drums of the occupants is prevented. The predetermined value of pressure of air inside the vehicle is set based on the pressure values related to ear drums of the occupants of the vehicle. The flap 40 covers the aperture 20 of the body 10. The operative front face 12 is oriented at an inclination to an operative rear face 14 of the body 10. This facilitates keeping the aperture 20 covered when the vehicle climbs an inclined surface. Thus, dust and other particulate matter is prevented from entering into the vehicle from the surroundings. An operative vertical direction V is defined in a direction parallel to the vertical sidewall of the operative rear face 14. An operative horizontal direction H is defined in a direction parallel to the horizontal sidewall of the operative rear face 14. A first pair of edges 16a, 16b of the operative front face 12 are oriented at an inclination to the operative vertical direction V. Additionally, a second pair of edges 18a, 18b of the operative front face 12 are oriented at an inclination to the operative horizontal direction H. This facilitates adjoining of a plurality of the air vents 100 to each other. A first set of hinges 50a and a second set of hinges 50b are provided on the operative front face 12 and a pair of the adjacent sidewalls for pivotably securing the flap 40. The flap 40 is selectively secured to the first set of hinges 50a and the second set of hinges 50b. In one configuration as shown in the figure 1, the flap 40 is secured to the first set of hinges 50a while the second set of hinges 50b are configured to be disabled. This allows pivotably displacing the flap 40 in the operative vertical direction. In another configuration as shown in the figure 1, the flap 40 is secured to the second set of hinges 50b while the first set of hinges 50a are configured to be disabled. This allows pivotably displacing the flap 40 in the operative horizontal direction. Snaps 60 are configured on a pair of the adjacent sidewalls to allow removably attaching of a plurality of the air vents 100 to each other and/or the vehicle body. Mounting slots 70 are configured on the sidewalls of the body to allow removably attaching of the plurality of the air vents 100. More specifically, the snaps 60 are configured to pass through the mounting slots 70 for forming an assembly of the air vents 100.
In an embodiment, a plurality of the air vents 100 are configured to be attached together in an operative vertical direction V.
In another embodiment, a plurality of the air vents 100 are configured to be attached together in an operative horizontal direction H.
In an embodiment, the shape of the vent 100 is of a regular shape.
In another embodiment, the dimensions of the vent 100 are adjustable.
In yet another embodiment, the inclination of the operative front face 12 in relation to the operative rear face 14 is adjustable.
