An Apparatus And A Method For Opening The Ends Of Tubular Web Pieces

Abstract: An apparatus and a method for opening the ends of tubular web pieces (2) to make squared or block bottoms is disclosed. The apparatus comprises a pre-opening device (1A), upper and lower plates (21, 22) adjustable with a knob (6) to create a flexible opening (23) through which a cut tubular web piece (2) of wide range of variation in gsm can travel in the direction of movement of fabric (5). There are a set of vacuum belts (4, 4A), upper and lower guide elements (7A, 7B), a set of gears (11,12,13,14) which are driven by a motor (10), and a splaying unit (1B) having first and second splaying elements (8,9) that enter the opening at the end of cut piece (2) and gradually and continually spread apart from each other, the layers of web pieces (2) at open end of the cut tubular piece to form a block bottom.
