Summary of the Invention
The main object of the present invention is to utilize more broadcasting
multimedia content for providing a competent way to augment the provided
features for recording the multimedia through EPG, on the fly and schedule
recording.
This object can be achieved by obtaining with the help of an electronic
program guide (EPG) information on real time television media broadcast
content and associated conditional information, extracting the selected
specific content from the television broadcast content and storing or
recording the selected broadcast content.
Thus, in a preferred embodiment the invention provides a method for
efficient ripping of television broadcast content to allow user to record the

content, said method comprising the steps of:
obtaining pictograms, logos, and other information from an electronic
programming guide (EPG) indicating to a user the television programs being
displayed on a television and charges for the contents thereof; selecting
specific broadcast content of a program; extracting selected specific
broadcast content from the television program; and storing or recording
selected broadcast content.
Electronic programming guide (EPG) is a grid listing television programs by
date, time and channel. EPG can be displayed by the subscriber terminal at
the subscriber's location.
The service provider can send a complete list of programs with the help of
the EPG allowing users to preplan the recording program. The service
provider can generate more revenue by partitioning the program content like
only audio, only visual, only instrumental sound ignoring voice, snapshots
of a particular actor or artist, etc., and applying changes according to the
content. At the same time the user can avoid unnecessary program content
by selecting partial content like only audio/only visual content, only cast
based audio content, snapshots of a particular actor, and only instrumental
sound of video ignoring the voice.

Detailed Description
In the present invention real time broadcast content is extracted from
the television. Copyrights information is recorded on the external
peripherals and other information are recorded onto a disk directly.
The invention provides a way to enhance the copyrights system of
the digital media in terms of copy protection, redistribution, reuse and
others. The inventive method provides a way to apply the price-rate
discretely on digital media and allows the user to record the digital
broadcast content by paying lesser amounts. For example, If user is
watching a particular video and wants to record only the audio of the
whole content or only the video of the full content or wants to extract
instrumental sound and voice separately from the content then
service provider can offer different prices for digital contents. Along

with this for partial content recording service provider can apply the
different types of payment mechanism for different segment of the
program based on the cast of the broadcasting video.
An electronic program guide (EPG) provides pictograms and logos etc. to
indicate to a television viewer the television programs being displayed on a
television. The viewer can know what is playing on the various channels
while watching one of the channels. The electronic programming guide can
be displayed by a subscriber terminal at the subscriber's location. The
electronic programming guide is a grid listing television programs by date,
time and channel. A subscriber can select programs for watching or
recording from the electronic program guide. The disclosed method also
enhances the feature of EPG where broadcaster can send all the information
with an electronic programming guide for the user by which user can know
the details of the broadcast content. The details of what all things are
available for recording and what are the prices for a specific content and
what all data is available separately can help user to know the full detail of
the content such as specific cast based recording, only audio, only video,
screenshots, instrumental sound of video, only voice and such other
information. Using these entire information users can be more entertained
for less amount and companies can generate more revenue. By having all the
information in EPG user can schedule for recording and get to know what all
items are available in that content for entertainment.
There are several layers of communication and processing that are necessary
to initiate, process and present EPGs to viewers. This process uses high level
commands, which are transferred between the STB and servers in the

system. These commands must be received, separated (parsed), decoded and
processed into the commands that are used by the EPG application.
Special flags or other types of information can also be embedded by the
broadcaster for segmentation of the information in a single video or it can be
segmented by algorithm to get the information at client side which can be
referred as on the fly recording. User can manage multimedia based on the
content type.
Fig. 1 illustrates a view the electronic program guide (EPG) with the option
of partial record. The EPG helps viewer to identify which content is having
partial recording. In EPG user will get choice for partial recording.
Whenever user presses © (or any key), a window appears on the screen that
specify a partial content that are provided by the service
provider/broadcaster. To record the specific content user can schedule for
content.
The discrete price rate of available content with the same content is shown in
Fig. 2. According to the information in Fig. 2 user can schedule the
recording for the content. The information provided by the © will be specific
to a program. This information helps service provider/broadcaster to
generate more revenue from the same content by partitioning the content. At
the time of broadcasting broadcaster will send a special flag that split the
content and provides facility to user to record the content dynamically. User
can view and record the multimedia content together.
The recording processes illustrated in Figs. 3 to 5 are self explanatory.

The inventive method provides a better a way to handle television
broadcasting content and their associated digital rights information. By
partitioning the content, said method enhances the property of single content
that is being broadcast and provides variety of operation for the content and
generates more revenue for service provider. The present invention employs
digital content in a more efficient way by generating the revenue for
producer/broadcaster/service provider of the content.
